  1. Some of them made the wonderful discovery of.....Texas? Lance Dunbar and his mother were 2 of them. GMG!
  2. me'thinks for certain it will be the New Orleans Bowl based on one of our best alums who has already booked his hotel in the Big Easy. He didn't do that on a whim--he does have some athletic dept. connections. Oh well.....bowl selection damage control now upcoming on GMG.com after the official announcement! LOL! Aren't we spoiled though? Complaining about which bowl? LOL! WTH! We are upwardly bound Americans & always want what's best for our country and, yes,.....our collegiate alma mater, too. albeit that can gravitate into various directions most times depending on what decade you attended UNT. GMG!

  4. What about when a Grumpy Old Man is spot on more times than much smarter younger alums want to admit? See my new signature, RiseUNT. What mature thinkers who've been around the Mean Green scene awhile can do is not go hog wild going into name-calling when the other much smarter (younger & much more hip) group knows in their heart of hearts that they've been proven to be mostly wrong (sometimes, but not all the time). UNT Athletics is hardly a rocket science situation. Our problem has mostly been hiring the wrong people most of the last half century, then give them pay raises as they set low goals sometimes actually meeting some of them while telling the world how * shitty our (then) facilities were but still leaving Denton well under .500 with their career performances and then............others getting to stay on the pay roll much too long almost as if UNT were a State-Assisted Living Retirement Village. (Come on now, admit it, UNT has been a pretty sweet situation for some who didn't really have to produce much to be able to stay---Casepoint: the ones who keep sticking around what has mostly been a losing athletic program the last quarter a century). There is hope with this present group unless they get 'tooken' aside by the OldDenton crowd on & off campus who then go into their Stepford Eagles catatonic stare mode saying...."we just don't things like that up here & neither should you &.....we have years and years of sub .500 W/L records to prove it--if you doubt us." GMG! * Fry had the worst facilities in our modern NCAA football history, but still did quite alright; especially in the area of recruiting. He had no self-imposed barriers; he never said "we can't recruit DFW" and never said "I can recruit where my former employer SMU recruited successfully" (as in Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange)------------wish we could have kept him another 6 years & he'd had a stadium like Apogee to recruit to. OldDenton? One OldDenton type who posts regularly has had the audacity of saying what Fry did in Denton was unimpressive? That's OldDenton for you--THINK SMALL--GET SMALLER! (Fry had the Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl his 3'rd year at Iowa)
  5. BG, a scheduling debacle over just this last year? How about a scheduling debacle since we moved into Apogee with the promise that upon its completion we'd get better OOC foes in Denton? Well, 7 (?) year old football program UTSA has schooled us on how to schedule high profile OOC foes, but their city shows up for their higher profile games and powers down when they (like us) play CUSA foes. AND...last I checked, the OOC games we had at Fouts are still much more impressive than we've had at fabulous Apogee Stadium BUT in all fairness.....that's not on Wren Baker's plate, yet. He's still unpacking his bags & only in his 2'nd year as a UNT employee at dear old alma mater. (The best time to have scheduled the "Big Boys" at Apogee is not when your going to your 2'nd bowl in a row, but probably around much of DMac's tenure when we were sucking hind teat). THERE! I SAID IT! (M. Levin) Yet I sometimes feel higher education bureaucrats are just as much bull-shiiter's and no better than Congress who lie to their constituents when running for office but completely go rogue & say "kiss our derriers'" when they get back to their Washington D.C. country clubs celeb-status existence. (Ted Cruz said his major disappointment when first elected was how Congress"persons" spend 80% of their time raising monies for their next re-election campaigns and a whopping 20% for guess who--us.......their constituents. The swamp is a cesspool & has been for decades. Turning any bureaucrat loose with our tax monies can be a most dangerous & expensive thing--even at the public universities level. GMG! BEAT FAU Beginning in about 4 Hours !
  6. Still accusations. The feminist liberal, northern freakin' "do-gooder" Attorney will still not release the school yearbook for handwriting experts to determine if it's Moore's hand-writing or not. If he's found guilty of any allegations he should withdraw. If he were a Democrat they'd circle the wagons to protect him; who knows, maybe even send him to a sanctuary city where he could get away with murder. Note:➡️ MSNBC didn't have 1 second of coverage of the Steinle jury's verdict. ❓How long does the Libs media actually think they can suppress the truth? Most times you also won't hear that kind of news on Ted Turner's Communist News Network (of fractured fairy tales) like you won't hear much else that those who turned the Electoral College almost a solid Red would ever pay attention to. Dems have to try to understand that this country is not going to suddenly switch back to a national party that keeps wanting to rip capitalism from our very economic fabric. All they have are witch hunts with the only witches being among them, but rarely do they ever offer any answers to everyday Americans problems.
  7. Do the players really want it or are they being told that they want it? 🙃 Voodoo City Bowl is tantamount to UNT driving a new Cadillac for the last few years & then suddenly being told we have to go back to enjoying driving a used Buick & to just deal with it. The Big Un'Easy Bowl would still be a temporary program set-back for Mean Green NewDenton progressives, but may actually be our only (forced) choice this year. Keep winning--Start filling Apogee on a regular basis--& we won't be relegated to being treated like a 2'nd hand Rose in the future, but OldDenton will say: "We po' but we proud--just give us any chicken bones & we'll suck the bone marrow out of those & enjoy it! 😫 About 5O years of being told what we're supposed to like by mostly NCAA novices most of whom could not get jobs outside the Denton City Limits post-UNT jobs might cause others to concur & feel similar. Still, if our players truly want the NO's Bowl, then they should get it & enjoy it in about 14 "short" days, but please let's not get stuck again on an annual basis vs a conference that does not advance our brand & what most of us think our real upside is in Denton--Old & New.
  8. 😆 Just took my meds--I'll be fine.😜 GMG!
  9. Funny! Let me politely say that those who've been around this for almost half a century may better well understand where I'm coming from. Some will never admit that just maybe I'm pretty close to being accurate on much (not all) that I post on the past organization of UNT Athletics. Many of you are spot on on much that you post. I used to be more directly involved with it all until I decided....this group is only going to do just enough to get a higher paying job somewhere else (if their social skills with even our own fan base allows them to do so). Many of you have always worked for the government in some capacity so you think in that mode, but I'm not a bureaucrat and can't think like one. Most of that group all lean Left and I don't lean Left & some on this forum know that thus more Red Numbers because of their (to state it mildly) bigotry. This forum is truly a microcosm of what's happening in the USA right now. So yes, in deed, the bureaucrats do live in a different world than my Private Business World, but it takes all kinds of us to make this world go round, doesn't it? Both groups are required for our country to function. Yet I won't compare those from the world of education to our present day Congress because that would be insulting, but at times it seems many of that group come from the same peanut shell. Most educators I know do not. If some (not all) from that bureaucratical group opened a Lemonade Stand they'd need government funds to run it and once they go bankrupt they'd need food stamps to survive. That is not my world and it isn't most of yours, either. Notice, shaft, I've not mentioned any names in this post, except yours in this paragraph, but I have not done it in a condescending or derogatory sort of way. Conspiracy? Just 1 example here out of many I could list but.......... go to the SMU board and try to understand where they are coming from as far as UNT is concerned. They don't like us--never have liked us and if anyone on this forum doesn't believe they are getting mildly pissed because we are getting more air time (even after they beat us back in Sept.) then you may be part of the (new) "yet to be named" #crowd.
  10. As you might expect, there is a La Tech bias with the Indy' Bowl officials. One of Fry's teams went down to Ruston & kicked some major Bulldog tail to the tune of 41 to 6. I can't remember all the particulars but La Tech received and Independence Bowl invite a few weeks later while UNT stayed home for Christmas. me'thinks that's when Coach Fry started singing...."my bags are packed I'm ready to go."
  11. Mattress Mac Indoor Practice Facility?
  12. Rice with their $5 billion plus endowment needs a new donor? Like everyone else in CUSA, Rice just needs more butts in seats. GMG!
  13. Not sure he'd remember it on one of our marathon phone calls from the past, but I told Harry back then that North Texas should hire the best recruiter that La Tech had because they were busting our britches in the recruiting wars & doing so in the Lone Star State. If that persists, we still need to hire him away because with our newfound resources we know it would be budget'able.
  14. Did you ever notice Bourbon Street never has a dry spot on it at any time? Reason? All the puke from the night before is getting hosed down from all those numerous tourists who cannot handle their liquor. Just thought I'd add that here around lunch time. (If it is New Orleans....bring your rubbers.....as in rain boots, of course.
  15. I'm a convert to #newdenton & I'm "DJ" hip but for the (fleeing) life of me I may have a hip fixin' to break any minute & make me have a mad dash to the floor. It's hell getting old, trying to stay relevant & keep from being swept under the carpet. Some of you will see all this one day. Enjoy your youth....it will not last forever as I once thought. DJ? (shameless plug time)........ soundworksdeejay.com GMG!
  16. Hopefully not, BG. Yet I have always thought that the UNT athletic dept. that never wanted to tackle our attendance problems and create a (never done before) newly formed multi-staffed Promotions Dept. yet rather chose to kick our Att. woes down the road for the next regime might not always be unpacking all their bags once in Denton. One would think that one of the main obstacles that's kept other more viable conferences from probably taking us serious come NCAA re-alignment time would be a main priority as to solve. GMG!
  17. Troy suffers from the same thing we suffer...no national name ID (even after their beating LSU & others similar thru the years). Only time you rise above the "no national name ID" syndrome is when (like Boise State) you have several years of finishing in the Top 25 (no matter who one of their many HFC's were they pulled that off). Wish we'd taken the same direction BSU did after we both left the Big West. I know...."if if's & buts were candy & nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas." (Dandy Don Meredith's oft' used quote on the old MNF).
  18. Harry being truthful with those thoughts. At least 2 more good recruiting classes to have a winnable chance with the above 3 he lists. Hopefully we have some JUCO's already on campus ready to play in our 2018 football campaign. Any news on that?
  19. Remind me, but what is BYU doing with their football plans for the future. Want a good game for Apogee? Book BYU--lots of Mormons in DFW.
  20. We be on the same page, bro'! 👍👍 But at the moment & even in a very changing NCAA re-alignment climate just where do we go? Wherever we go our attendance will be looked upon as a key criteria & another reason we should set filling the Wing Zone as a top priority for the 2018 season. Wren's Familly Plan For 4 is a great vehicle to do that & they'd have from now until next Fall to begin working on it & fulfilling the objective. GMG!
  21. That is OldDenton in deed, p_phelps. We old timers are used to old things & just about accept anything. We are running out of time (literally) to fight the good fight anymore. Problem's been our war has been from within most times against those who could be considered well-meaning people, but people who are just plain forever stuck in our teacher's college past & mindset at the end of the day. So......Just keep those fleas in the coffee can jumping the same height even if we had 60,000 students, but still the same 15K to 20K at Apogee? BS! What's wrong with that picture? I observed OldDenton the first week I lived off Fry Street after transferring from Alvin JUCO in 1972. Thought time and new faces would change it dramatically---well.......it hasn't in almost 50 year now. It's almost like we get new re-enforcements of fans/students/alums every 4 years while the prior group of the previous 4 years go on a lifetime sabbatical away from Denton, UNT & anything green. We just don't piggy-back our fan base from decade to decade at UNT like so many other schools who don't have attendance problems seem to do. Not having enough natural rivals to build onto at the turnstiles has been part of the problem, too. Maybe Wren Baker can change the OldDenton culture because I'm not sure how much longer we can count on advancing with so many changes in the NCAA that DOES NOT favor the G5 group of schools; that is, if advancement is even part of our goal and objectives in Mean Green Country or............... do we just remain a college farm system program for schools we used to be in the same conference and all the others who have less resources or the prime location of a North Texas but who are still (most admirably) upwardly mobile. Duly Note: If the NCAA powers that be will double the national play-off to 8 teams (but even more ideally for us make that 16), then we might just have a chance to get out of this self-induced rut we've put ourselves in the last 40 plus years. Think Small--Get Small. Look at all the schools that didn't have that philosophy we used to be in conferences with? (Want me to list all those schools because many of us watched most of them go past us during our student & alumnus years. Lately, I've even had a real concern that UTSA might very well be the next school to (athletically) go Beep! Beep! right past our 100 plus years NCAA football program. Truly...Hasn't This Really Been Our Problem? > > > > Like it or not, we are located in a major league sports market of about 7,000,000 citizens. Any of you local DFW & old time sports fans notice how the resuscitation (and even after building a new baseball park) of the old minor league baseball Fort Worth Cats few years ago was a raging----non-success here in our Major League Sports Market? So it's Major Sports vs Minor Sports.......OldDenton vs NewDenton? We got ourselves a real conundrum here happening right before our very eyes but one that I think is solve'able if our present leadership group keep doing what they've been doing & doing some more key tweaking to correct all the negative almost program-killer things from our past. All this could happen almost as quick at this 2017 Mean Green football season came upon us if we get all of the rest of our key stars in total alignment with support from the fan base. My bell cow for this football program has always been the 1975 Mean Green football season--I just can't get the good feeling of that football season out of my mind. It was also the a season of national success that made North Texas & Hayden Fry the talk of the following Winter's NCAA Convention and the main football season that got Hayden Fry a Big 10 job at Iowa 2 years later. Note: We got our first scheduled game with DKR's Texas Longhorns at that convention was the word on the street. . There are reasons why about 250,000 UNT alums within 1 to 1.5 hours from Apogee most of whom we never see on Game Day & its because they just don't want to support a school which from time to time acts big time, but most always slowly (& too comfortably) gravitates back to a minor league college sports mind-set . Remember all those hired in the UNT Athletic Department in past years who had their initial excitement about "our Sleeping Giant" get shot down after the OldTimers of OldDenton gotta' a-hold of them to tell them......"well now you just need to tap the brakes on all that a whole bunch, Bud." Well, at least from time to time we have been thrown a bone (or a tease) with a winning season every once in a blue moon. Most of us hope Wren Baker & Seth Littrell will stick around a few years & take that OldDenton mindset & modus operendi completely off the table forever. STILL.....we've yet to impress any of that 250,000 DFW area alums. They don't (and have never) bought into OldDenton. Denton business owners we never see at Apogee sure as hell buy into it because of those 50,000 plus college students (counting Texas Womens University) living in or near Denton with all of their (or Daddy's) MasterCard/Visa/Discovery/American Express cards ready to slide or chip away inside all their "have we got a deal for you" proprietorships. Whoever came up with this NewDenton thing really saw a dire need for change & it's a good idea some of us old ship barnacles really like--just hope they don't get too discouraged trying to do something, uh, NEW, (but mostly different) for a change. GMG! PS: Notice no calling anyone out or name-calling from this keyboard on this mini-manifesto? So come one now ....gimmee' 3 steps and some RED! Red it is a favorite color of mine.
  22. We need our usual HOD crowd but we need a plan to get their attention at the pre-game Mean Green fan/UNT alumnus get-together with the main theme of: "Hey! We need "YOU" at the Apogee 2018 season opening game to do what we want to do with this football program--"your" alma mater's football program!" We need this theme on the Cotton Bowl stadium Jumbotron throughout the game, too. There cannot be over-kill for this important message to all those wearing green. (Actually, I'd wager this staff is already on top of this--if we get the HOD). GMG!
  23. This is so sad for #3--so sad.
  24. Thanks for posting this.👍👍 SUMG shared it on my Facebook page this morning! GMG!
  25. Emmitt, I have a bunch of police friends over here so how do they apply for HOD tickets?
