  1. Unfortunately, the sentiments of many. With an Indy' kick-off at 1:30 most of us in DFW could have made it a day trip. I hope I'm 100% wrong but our school may have to eat some tickets with a shorter timeline to sell tickets for the NO's Bowl. Seems we had almost a month to buy tickets for both HOD Bowl appearances. GMG!
  2. πŸ˜† TROY?...............HELEN? TROJANS.........(Well)πŸ˜‡
  3. Agree. πŸ‘πŸ‘
  4. πŸ‘CBS just gave the New Orleans Bowl game with our favorite team a smooch kiss & their seal of approval, ❇️ Think some of the national sports media up in New York City saw some Army/UNT video highlights from fabulous Apogee Stadium ? ❇️Yes, CBS, it probably will be an entertaining game. ❇️UNT is located in the USA's 4'th largest TV market so even the media boys in NY City know there will be somebody watching. GMG! πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»ONE LAST TIME & NO EXAGGERATION HERE.....but I still can't remember seeing a G5 team with the speed & talent of the FAU Owls since the Boise State Broncos the season they beat the OU Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl. BSU still had the overall team edge, but FAU not far behind.
  5. Agree. πŸ‘πŸ‘ πŸŒ‚TCU had a vision of better things & a temporary stint out (Mountain) West was part of it. Lordy, how many conferences did TCU zip thru before they landed the Big 12? πŸŒ‚πŸŒ‚TCU also saw a big need to separate itself from the rest of the Texas schools that they were getting stuck & pulled down with in the Group of 5 swamp. UNT should consider doing the same in the near future if anything that appears even perceptively upwardly mobile should open up & even if we have to open some things up ourselves. βœ…UNT needs to get in bed with schools who are still better known & closer to a P5 existence than CUSA (Sun Belch 2.0) will ever give us. The Re-alignment Train is coming around the mountain again & we have yet to be ready for it in the past. Will we ready this time? (All should know by now UNT's invite to CUSA happened only because SMU left for AAC). βœ…βœ… We have a fabulous football stadium which happened under Rick V's watch & his continued villainization should really cease at some point. Look at the heap of crap πŸ’© he inherited? βœ…βœ…βœ… We have a pearl with Wren Baker no matter how all this bowl'gate negotiation thing plays out. I think very much was out of his hands the more this looks. I also sense CUSA officials planted a big hickey on UNT truth to be told. Seems winning the West Division was completely de-valued by those we thought were our friends & should have made a bigger deal out of it by going to bat for us. ❇️ Last 2 HOD Bowl games we did CUSA proud at the Cotton Bowl Stadium turnstiles. Not sure that favor was returned the last 48 hours. HOD? One TCU alum told me he couldn't believe all that Sea of Green. βœ…βœ…βœ…βœ… We are in a bowl game 2 years in a row in SL's 2'nd year on payroll. Seth didn't inherit the kind of team Lane Kiffin did but he & staff have done some serious coaching with who they did get in spite of our prior coaching staff's last 2 years insufficient numbers of quality recruits. πŸ’šβ‡οΈπŸ’šβ‡οΈπŸ’šβ‡οΈ Good still far outweighs the bad at the largest university in the Lone Star State this side of UT-Austin. It always will no matter how grumpy some of us get on a few things that get our dander up & usually don't mean a hill of beans in the grand scheme of things. Guess that's why we're the fans &.....the taxpayers (to quote a Dallas Maverick of years past). GMG!
  6. Granted, but how sure would anyone be that FAU wouldn't run circles around a .500 Fla.State team? Like many of you we are heartbroken that our favorite team got beat by FAU, but I think the speed & talent we saw twice this year would beat a bunch of .500 (or more) P5 schools. FAU should be in the Top 25 IMHO. 🀠 BLAST FROM PAST: FAU would remind me of a virtually unknown 1967 UH Coogs football team (and football program) who went up to Lansing, Michigan, as multiple touchdowns under dog against Duffy Daugherty's #2 ranked MSU Spartans. Well......UH left the state of Michigan that day as the victors (& by quite a few points) because Bill Yeomen's ""Houston Veer" had the Fake Mean Green of MSU turned totally inside out! * Our HS football team was listening to that game en route to play a Catholic school in Halletsville, Texas, i.e., Czech country. Our HFC was a big Coog fan & UH alum so we were allowed to listen to the game. LOL! GMG!
  7. Because SOUTHERN MISS got the marquee P5 bowl opponent, perhaps?
  8. An 8 to 16 team play off would be more fair but none of this is about being fair--it's about greed.
  9. Good question. HONESTLY? This whole thing with USM vs FSU & a USM we beat 2 years in a row reeks to high stink! Florida State U? Already forgot that we once hosted the Bobby Bowden-coached Seminoles at Fouts Field? More UNT history to be erased & flushed down the drain to fit a narrative? (Seems to be a national trend, but I assure you--one that will have a short shelf life). OldDenton? DRC? You want to comment or are you still busy picking future way under .500 in wins/losses career losers for the UNT Athletic Hall of Fame & to name venues after? Only in OldDenton, folks, only in OldDenton. People outside Denton & at other higher profile Texas universities we aspire to be like can only laugh at us & they do. I don't care what you who are grasping for damage control straws are saying as some of you are even throwing UNT under the bus making excuses for our NO's Bowl choice; but more so, what seems to have been no real effort to get a more high profile Bowl opponent as we genuflected to our CUSA non-friends allowing a bunch from the hick state of Mississippi to one-up our school. How weak & spineless some of our group can be. Some of whom that kept rubber-stamping athletic mediocrity for so long it simply became the norm at good ol' Texas Normal. Is "we po' but proud" back in play once again? Seems our powers wanted the Big Easy from the git-go with a question to our team (possibly) asked liked this? "You guys do want to go to New Orleans, right? YOU DO WANT TO GO TO NEW ORLEANS, RIGHT!"😑 (For what it's worth, there is just not a whole lotta' good that happens in that black magic voodoo town after dark). ➑️ AND FINALLY....... THIS ➑️ Bureaucrats always have a way of going around their constituencies to get what they personally want & public university officials can be as bureaucratic & totally aloof to who they're suppose to serve as anyone. A National Casepoint? How about those clowns in Washington D.C. who are suppose to function as our Congress? I don't trust any of them as far as you can throw them--both sides of the aisle. Do you? They continue to show the nation their worth & amazing hormonal overages. (Oh, I forgot, I'm on a Snowflakes-inundated forum & I'm not suppose to say most of this kind of stuff, right, ❀️Red Brigade❀️)?
  10. No, they wouldn't bring more than UNT. Wonder how many hours from Shreveport is Hattiesburg? From DFW it's not so far. NO's adds hours of drive time for those of us who will not fly. (A bad flight experience from DFW to Hobby stopped my flying days years ago).
  11. Agree. πŸ‘πŸ‘ Not sure why beating a (normally) Top 25 school has evaded us but it has not Troy, La Tech & even ULM back in the day. Those 3 schools had to have the hosses to beat the pedigree of opponent they beat & not just one time since 2 of the 3 aforementioned schools have other big time wins, but that only serves as a reminder of how bad our recruiting has actually been over too long a period of time. For UNT to have retained such a decent fan base during all those years is almost a miracle itself. Yet one good recruiting class every 4 years & keeping our fingers crossed that a whole bunch of projects come thru is no way to have a football program. UNT must start hitting some grand slams in our recruiting the next 2 years to avoid our OldDenton/UNT ways (again).
  12. So you work for CNN & are reporting that Jr. is now a felon? Did you know MSNBC didn't spend one second of coverage on the Kate Steinle jurors verdict that had an entire nation pissed (& still does)? Felons? The felons are all in a line-up & are from the national party that has a jack-ass as its symbol. You know, the party that is trying to rip capitalism from America's very economic fabric but only has their Marxist/Soros/Alinsky bridges to nowhere programs as Capitalism's replacement? How so short-sighted & on the wrong side of history that only godless, street marchin', businesses- burning & non-taxpayers could ever get excited about. What a group that is to tie oneself. Sad.
  13. Shreveport has been a gambling destination city for tens upon thousands from the North Texas Metroplex for years. Did Buford & Billy Bob on that Shreveport bowl selection committee overlook that small detail? I'd say dramatically more Texans thru the years made the Shreveport trip multiple more times than Mississippians. Hell, we have 7,000,000 population in our alma mater's home area, ie, the North Texas Metroplex & how many from the whole state of MS. ? UNT's Bowl traveling fan numbers should be well known by now--- it is not chopped liver numbers by any means. The astute bowl officials who pick schools would have probably seen our last 2 HOD Bowl crowds or even made a few phone calls to Dallas to ask how we travelled, ya think? (Probably not). WE BEAT USM 2 YEARS IN A ROW! FSU DIDNT CHOOSE USM---IT WAS SOUTHERN FRIED HAYSEEDS LIKE BUFORD & BILLY BOB ON THE SHREVEPORT BOWL COMMITTEE WHO DID . ➑️ I'D WAGER UNT DID NOT GET ANY HELP FROM CUSA OFFICIALS AT ALL. Enuf already! It all feels like OldDenton to me. People making choices who'll leave as soon as they can get out. "We're walking to New Orleans." (Fats Domino)
  14. Without all the extra drama, lagniappe & tommyrot from my fast stroking keyboard, with me it's still & has always been all about our Mean Green football team. These bowl negotiaters can poke us in the eyeballs all day long but don't freakin' screw with our football team & coaches, dammit! GMG!
  15. True Story: Rick V told me when he first arrived in Denton that during the Fry era at North Texas that USM wanted to be like us. Why not...We were the first ever school at our level & scope of competition that UT-Austin AD & HFC Darrell Royal had ever scheduled. It really was a pretty big deal in 1975 when UNT first got on the UT football schedule for a Fall, 1976 game at Memorial Stadium. We dropped the ball when we dropped down to 1-AA. We had no other choice except to drop football is what we were being told. I think that was pretty close to accurate.
  16. Yep! πŸ‘πŸ‘
  17. You can't make all this new Bowl revelations stuff up! DAMN IT!😑 SO....UPON FURTHER (OldDenton) REVIEW? (Honestly, all this is making the MG Nation dizzy if not crazy)!😜 THIS? So 2'nd place in CUSA gets trumped by 3'rd & 4'th place CUSA finishers & teams we beat? We beat USM 2 years in a row! Whose doing our negotiating on our behalf for crissakes? Are we screwing up another nocturnal dream in Denton like we have so many times before in the last 40+ years? Do we name the new upcoming IPF after the one doing all this negotiating? Another UNT Hall of Famer we have here on the near horizon? * * Some didn't have to do much to get in that "truly" hallowed Hall except set small goals & reach em' every once in a while as 250,000 DFW area alums still avoided venerable Fouts Field like the plague).πŸ˜·πŸ€’ Strange reward system CUSA has going on, but not just this year, either. Is the CUSA Commissioner that impotent to not plead our case more effectively? All these southern fried Buford's & Billy Bobs at the Deep South CUSA schools seem to be giving we Texans & OUR MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL TEAM ONE HELLUVA' WET WILLIE! REMEMBER WHEN......how La Tech got Illinois in the HOD Bowl few yrs ago, but we got that "BIG" MWC/UNLV matchup with all 1,000 of their traveling fans & their funky marching band? Then last December HOD & Dallas powers made sure we get a repeat matchup with a team we'd already beaten mid-season over any P5-----ANY P5? Are we really that unlucky, fellow Mean Greeners or is OldDenton rearing its ugly small time teachers college heads once again? Seems we can never escape it. Old Lady History would tell us its now time to for us to go into another multi- year losing streak (except I think we beat "her" at the pass this time around with SL & Company). Then last December La Tech gets a (one time matchup) with Navy at Amon Carter--a stadium our bowl traveling UNT fans would have filled to the brim & painted apple green instead we get 55,000 empty seats vs Army in the Cotton Bowl & in a tough part of town the taxpayers of Dallas needs to spend some serious big bucks to revitalize! SEEMS TO ME WE GETTIN' HELD BACK WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR CUSA NON-FRIENDS OR IN OTHER WORDS---WE GETTIN' ZOOMED! IT'S ENOUGH TO MAKE THE POPE CUSS ON EASTER SUNDAY QUITE FRANKLY!πŸ˜‡
  18. KRAM1, after you booked your Big Easy hotel other day that was a dead give-away to me! LOL!πŸ˜†
  19. Probably a good fit this year but not every year. We don't need to get back in our old habits of going backwards (program-wise) after looking like we've gone forward. Playing a Sun Belt team anytime will give that appearance no matter what OldDenton types write or say. (Did any of those people ever take Psychology 101 for crissakes)? Early bowl game let's our coaches get back to recruiting before the first signing date? Gotta find a silver lining in some of this. Best thing that still took place in New Orleans IMHO is we kicked the bloody British (my ancestors) in the War of 1812's Battle of New Orleans. GMG! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Nevertheless, congrats to SL & a very deserving MEAN GREEN football team plus...all this after SL has still only had 2 recruiting classes for heaven's sake?!?!πŸ‘πŸ‘ βž‘οΈβ‡οΈβž‘οΈ BEAT THE HELL OUT OF HELEN'S FAVORITE TEAM!
  20. Too many positive things took place this Fall that yesterday's loss cannot usurp. We always have had a few fans ready to burn the barn down to kill a mouse & fire the HFC after a loss. Like most of you, I am not one of them. Rarely (if ever) do I criticize any coach for on the field things; it's more in the area of a HFC's P.R. shortcomings that affect fan support where I've posted a few things In the past. Like most of you, I never criticize or singled out any Mean Green football player. I may have said one might do the program more good if he played rather than another but didn't crucify the other. THIS: We have to recruit, though, & recruit like there's no tomorrow. If we recruit more speed like we saw yesterday you will not get any objections from anyone on this forum. GMG!
  21. FAU didn't need any quotes or newspaper clippings from anyone to get them fired up plus it would uncharacteristic of Mason Fine to have said anything derogatory about the opposition or anyone for that matter. FAU's speed & talent I hope UNT will pattern our future recruiting classes after was all they needed to have yesterday. It was more than enough. GMG!
  22. When Mark Miller booked his hotel room in New Orleans 2 days ago I deduced that we were going bowling in the Big Easy. Right now Troy may be the most winnable game we can play & our defense may cause doubt for that to happen with some. Troy surely can't have the speed & talent of an FAU. GMG!
  23. Non- Rah! Rah! coaches can't win? Many have & you can start with Tom Landry. Speed & talent win. Offense wins games--Defense wins championships (except it didn't for TCU yesterday vs OU).
  24. After I finally watched the video of our first game & loss vs FAU just last Friday, I seriously didn't think we could match up against their team speed coupled with their talent. In many ways, this game was lost on the Texas HS recruiting trails 2-4 years ago. You cannot have too many lulls in your recruiting because those lulls will rear their ugly heads at some point.
  25. 10 words? Coach was probably doing a bunch of unheard cussing. This loss hurt everybody who expected a bit more. Funny is how I never talked to anyone who thought we'd actually win this game--just wanted a closer score.
