Yada (3 times)! This out of the way: A "9 win" UNT football team would not have been shut out in getting a bowl unless some CUSA Bowl negotiating officials wanted to meet Jesus before their time. My old college roommate who became a rededicated Mean Green fan this season said he'd make the drive to the NO Bowl but 6 mos. ago I'd scheduled a wedding to DJ near Possum Kingdom yesterday so negate that. I told him if the Indy Bowl became available that would've been perfect for my schedule along with what I'd wager would be 3OK plus UNT fans so we kept our fingers crossed but...no dice on that deal or black jack tables, too, in going to Shreveport. Our defeating USM 2 years in a row seemed to not matter to CUSA who it seems may have been content to negotiate us down to playing a Sun Belt team. ➡️ One helluva great reward for being West Division Champs, right? In fact, what makes winning a division title important anymore if you are North Texas? We did better in getting the HOD Bowl game 2 times by not winning the West. Yet CUSA's apparent powers that be have suddenly proclaimed the USM 'Bolden' Eagles as the traveling fans darling of CUSA? I call a big loud Billy Bobs Texas Cotton-Eyed Joe "Bullshit" on that one. Last 2 bowl games prior to yesterday's ticket selling disaster were quite impressive to many media types in the Southwest including the 🐸TCU🐸 play by play guy (Estridge) who did ESPN radio for our UNLV win. He bragged on "all those Mean Green fans" in the Cotton Bowl on clear channel WBAP 820AM the next day. 😪Yeah, crying over some spilt green koolade now but "what if" we get a bowl game 3.5 hours from DFW along with a brand new (for us) bowl for our fans to attend with a very well known P5 opponent plus......more time to sell tickets to traveling Mean Green fans? I believe we bring a minimum of 30,000 Mean Green fans to that game & that's no matter how we finished our season. The novelty (& proximity) of it all would have sold thousands of tickets from the UNT contingency. Hindset tells us if we were going to lose any bowl game we'd all preferred losing to the Seminoles of Fla. St. U. For some of us Older Nestors playing them again would have been a nostalgic sorta' thing, too. GMG! 💚 Now more than ever is it time to recruit like there's no tomorrow in Old or NewDenton.

'18 DL Charles Cole (Butler CC)
PlummMeanGreen replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Maybe Cole watched us vs Troy & will say: "I know I can start on that defense against SMU in that 2018 season opener at Apogee" (and then switches to UNT)? Hey! We have to think we can flip some of these recruits, right? -
Recruiting must improve. Our prior coaching staffs have apparently so alienated us from Texas HS football coaches that our present coaches go into happy dance if they even know UNT is located in Denton (& not Denison, Texas). Wonder just how many Texas HS football coaches out there have UNT degrees? I'd guess a whole bunch so start our "UNT re-introduction" with that group.

I'm surprised Mason Fine still has 2 legs to walk on. Said it last season, too. HELP!?! (recruit, dammit, recruit)!

Agree 100%! If we don't look ahead to improve our NCAA future, we will continue to be a 2'nd hand Rose while we keep on never catching the Bride's bouquet toss. Doesn't Smatresk have MWC ties that could get that ball rolling? For UNT the only way we get in the MWC is with a handful of CUSA traveling partners. How is BYU making their situation work? Perhaps be part of a conference formed with (present) Independents? Of course, Notre Dame would not want to be part of it. Whatever the case, we need to always be looking after our future in the NCAA because those who don't (it's easy to say) will not have a very rosy future. I agree with SUMG that we should be at BYU's doorsteps trying to get a series of home & homes games with the Cougars. Lots of Mormons in DFW for certain.

Although we got beat by a better than usual Sun Belt team, when we were once an SBC team ourselves going to the NO Bowl 4 times we were always playing a conference perceived to be above the Sun Belt. A challenge if you will against a (usually) better known opponent? Today we were that conference vs a SBC team. Now I guess we know how Cincy' Bearcat fans (all 500 of them) felt when we beat their CUSA co-champion? We beat USM 2 years in a row & I'm sorry but they got the better Bowl game than UNT no matter what the politics were. Not a good omen for a future in CUSA I'd say. We were drilled by a team that (yes) beat LSU, but we also lost the ticket sales part of the equation , too. I was told a ridiculous 2,000 sold from the Ticket Office? OUCH! That number with our 2 losses to FAU & then playing a fine Troy team yet one from a conference we were proud to leave took its predictable toll. Leaving the Sun Belt was like leaving the trailer park to relocate to a nicer neighborhood in the suburbs. Our low NO Bowl ticket sales were predictable & our leaders should have known that they would be but if... ...we go to Shreveport I'm in a car on the way to that game with my former UNT roommate. Thousands & thousands more just like me it would have been the same. * For me the NO Bowl was a no go because I had a wedding scheduled 6 mos ago to DJ so I got to listen the ESPN radio guys treat our school like we were chopped liver as I was en route to the wedding listening to their broadcast. They had zero respect for our favorite college team & I do mean--ZERO. Recruiting worries the hell out of me. Few 3 star & up closers since we opened Apogee Stadium & I just do not get that. Are we the only ones excited about Apogee & Our university? Sorry...but I just don't get why we are allowing schools from backwater locations & a 7 year old newbie football program like UTSA beat us like a drum in recruiting. ➡️We have coaches who can coach well. We have coaches who could especially coach 3 star & up recruits if we could just (somehow/someway) get our share of them. It's a dilemma that needs to be solved & as quickly as possible. What we don't get now in recruiting wars will show on the field sooner than later. Living & depending on projects alone is a dangerous high stakes game of double or nothing. ❇️ I like our furture under Seth, but Seth might need to recruit better closers on his coaching staff. I hope he & staff make me eat crow in the next few weeks. I'd gladly eat that kind of crow--just put a good southern fried kind of batter on it to make it more soluble & (of course) some high end Nappa Valley wine as a chaser.👊🏻

❇️Fact is (at least to me) that Denton was a fun town to live in the 7 years I was there. ❇️The Denton Mean Green supporters we do have are some of the best in college football. ❇️ I just don't get it (never have) why a larger number of their fellow Denton'ites just don't get on the bandwagon; but to be fair & balanced, why more of our enormous DFW alumnus base don't either . Maybe if we keep scheduling more high profile name schools at Apogee who bring fans (Army was a blast) & then...win. win, win? GMG!

Duly noted & duly appreciated, Arkstfan. You are showing the class I was once known to have (but was still very opinionated, of course). I'm at the eye surgeon even now waiting for further marching orders. (Glaucoma & cataracts it is). Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas & Happy Hannaka (that should cover it, right)?🙃 -
That prophetic article is the first shot heard round the CUSA world. The times in CUSA they are a'changin' & this is just the beginning. Projected National Student Apathy? A huge reason we need a fully staffed Promotions Dept. in the Athletic Dept. with large group promotions for its revenue-producing varsity sports at the top of its objectives to successfully fulfill. In DFW there is an all out war going on for the entertainment dollar & sooner UNT powers finally admit it & begin a viable program to get in the fight for that dollar the better. All this to stay ahead of this projected trend of more national student apathy (as if we needed any more in OldDenton). Best news for UNT is how the Apogee Game Day experience with all its sights & sounds has so improved & winning only magnifies it. We have all that to build a fan base upon, but we must continue to win, win & win--season after season after season. GMG!

Wednesday, 12-6-17 ArkStFan: My sincere & deepest apology. You did not deserve what I said & the way I said it. I am having a terrifically bad Fall/Winter with 2 major surgeries on the way dealing with Diabetes-related issues. My emotions have been a roller coaster of late. Again, I do apologize. Best wishes for you & the passion you have for your fine school & its (successful) athletic program. Sincerely, PMG -

Good things do happen to good people. Congrats, Mason Fine! -
Should the UNT Athletic Dept have buses lined up to load up with scholarship athletes to go vote or is that too obvious & might piss off some tenured professors? At UNT you never know what side of the bed our students wake up and we have on again--off again attendance at Apogee on the Student Side as living proof of that, right? ➡️➡️➡️ I'd heard that UTA & Texas St. students never have a problem voting for their fee increases. (Off subject, but whens the last time we beat UTA in basketball once again)?😥 GMG!

Don't want to sound rude , but why do you even care what we do at UNT? You are obviously not a UNT fan. Some things you've posted in the past sometimes even had a bit of a condescension to it? We are all impressed with all your friends in high NCAA places, especially being from a state & environment that is hardly known for its progressivism. Honestly, besides Harry & maybe Cerebus, few of us care about anything that happens in your state or at your school. Ever notice how few of us ever visit your school's athletic forum? Do you have statistics on that, too? Many from UNT felt our upside is greater than being in the Sun Belt was ever going to allow that upside to have s chance to break out as to begin reaching its potential. To a great extent some are now feeling that way about being in CUSA. I personally like the western route TCU took to separate itself from the rest & subsequently land in the Big 12. Like Gray Eagle recently posted & that being if UNT had just had the normal progression that came with our enrollment & burgeoning population growth, we would have been more than a serious Big 12 consideration. Gray Eagle not one to make such bold statements unless it being a realistic possibility. Still, sort of American of us wanting to be upwardly mobile & to better our athletic neighborhood might you say? We are in a geographical location & truly have the constituency to do much greater things if our DFW alumnus base & OldDenton will ever wake up & smell the coffee. Some of us (even myself at age 67) still think our school has a superb upside. Guess I'll croak believing it, but hope that won't happen until some of us from the Fry era attain what he had such a grandiose vision for us to attain. (We've had a few detours since he left for Iowa would be quite the understatement). ➡️ OK, the game I was talking about (& I said it in my post) was "years ago" & was on DFW ABC TV affiliate channel 8. Yes, it was in another era especially as being an ABC-TV televised game would indicate, but the point being made was that in the (now) 4'th largest TV market UNT had doubters back then that we couldn't draw flies on any kind of telecast. Cathy Harasta's DMN research & subsequent reporting in her blurb said other-wise. Last years HOD Bowl game was (as I recall) hardly on one of ESPN's better subscribed cable options so that may have affected our Nielsen ratings alone. It was also a very early 11:00 AM kick, but it didn't matter to me because I was part of a very large & impressive Sea of Green of fans attending the game. I would assume with your astuteness to all things NCAA that you'd know to the tee exactly how many UNT fans were at the game, too; and who knows, possibly the demographics of where each fan originated as well? 🙄 -

Couldn't it be said that all G5's who are bowling would all want a P5 opponent? Do we for certain know FSU didn't want us or is that just more Fake Internet News? And ESPN, too? ESPN knows what our bowl traveling numbers can be & they'd equal or exceed any other G5 school in our region. Jeez, we travel more bowl fans than we could put inside Apogee Stadium's current capacity. ESPN also knows our school is located in the 4'th largest TV market in America, too. ESPN obviously has those on their payrolls they pay well to research & find such information. NIELSEN RATINGS? Former Dallas Morning News sports writer Cathy Harasta years ago wanted to know if UNT could win a time slot & so she checked the Nielsen ratings after a televised game vs ULM & we more than commanded a viewing audience for our time slot. * SUMG sent me a DMN blurb on Harasta's Nielsens research & findings for that ULM game years ago so.....that is also not Fake Internet News. GMG! -

Poor UH has turned into a farm system for hiring future P5 HFC's & AD's. Impressive pic of a sold out UH football stadium. Bet it ain't Nichols State that the Coogs are playing in the pic.

Me'thinks many college sports media types in New York & the East saw some video of the UNT/Army game at Apogee & we got more brownie points & a little respect? Playing a national team like Army does give a team from Texas a bit more coverage where we usually never get it. Watch the Army/Navy pre-game national telecast & don't be surprised to even see a couple of long QB Bradshaw runs from the Apogee turf. To eventually get Top 25 votes & a ranking getting a few favorable nods from media types up North is never a bad thing. GMG!
