That's what I'm thinking will happen. If anything happens to us- it will be because of the ripple effect to us. I don't think we'll be a primary player- but rather a secondary player.

Not to mention, I think the national recognition of TCU will help get them into the B12.
-
I wish that were the case. But we haven't "paid our dues" in the other smaller conferences such as C-USA and MWC. I think Houston or TCU will take Big 12 spots. This opens up a spot for us in the C-USA. That's where I think we'll be in two or three years.

How will you be enjoying the Tulsa game?

Well it won't be on ESPN3... Hmmmmm.... What am I going to do... -

Why are we arguing about this uniform still? It' not a matter of aesthetics or temperture. The band simply doesn't have enough uniforms. Good, bad, indifferent, poor planning, lack of money- whatever the reason- they just don't have the uniforms. Calling a "good number of the members.. portly" REALLY? They are a perfectly equally distributed band. Just as fat and skinny as the rest of the nation. That's a silly observation.

The GB is a UNT official organization. It therefor has the right to make it's own logo. It draws it's logo from its own uniform. I don't understand the confusion. The logo still has the words University of North Texas i teh North Texas font... The GB has always had members and future members of Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and the top lab bands. Always has and always will. I don't like the pre-game show- I was just explaining it. A few years ago when I interviewed for drum major, it was a 45 minute discussion about how to change pregame. I think it would be cool for the band to be more ridiculous during pregame. I just don't know exactly what I'd do.

What was I being close minded about? Points 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are all factually based. As to point 3- I was merely trying to summarize why the band plays what/when they do. As to point 7- Are we really that "old school" that we can't have boys in color guard? Often times the most talented members of Drum Corps Color Guard are the guys. I think not wanting guys in colorguard is close minded. I don't see where I was being defensive, rather just explaining the reasons about why the GB does what the GB does.

That may be one of the best posts I've ever read. I was thinking about 1 all game. Number 8 and 10 are so true.

.... Do we really have nothing better to criticize than the Number 1 Collegiate Marching Band in the nation? 1. There are more than 320 members in the GB. There just aren't enough uniforms. They are working on other alternatives so that way everybody can be in a uniform of some kind. As an alumnus of the GB- we definitely have worn our uniforms in the heat- we aren't wimps. There just aren't enough uniforms for them this year. 2. The logo draws its image from the "angles" side of the breast plate. It is definitely a North Texas based logo. 3. The GB will never be "as good as it used to be" or "never play enough music." The GB plays as much as a they can. Having conducted the Basketball Band, I know that the guys in the booth are always communicating with the director on when to play, and when they will play music over the speaker. I can't imagine FB games are any different. Not to mention- the GB can't play in every break because there are lots of ads that need to be played. 4. The band plays the same "fanfare" every defensive third down- ending in "North Texas Fiiiiiiiiiggggghhhhhttttt!!!" Which typically is what gets the crowd yelling. You're welcome. 5. The Green Brigade always marches with a "straight leg corps style". I don't know about this whole "military" vs. "show band" style you're talking about. They always march the same... I don't think you know what you're talking about. 6. They play the fight song and spell out UNT with their limited pregame time... What other "North Texas-ey" spirit thing could they do? 7. An issue with the guys in color guard? One of those guys is a fraternity brother- so thank you for your 1970's close minded view of the world.

I moved to Texas the same year from Minnesota that the Stars did... The Stars will always have a special place in my and my family's heart. Glad Mikey-Mo got to "retire" as a Star. -
Who?

How can you guarantee a win when "it's tough to get a true feel for our team?" That confuses me. And where the HECK are you finding 48 points!?!?!?! WOW NT- 27 IU- 20

So in a best case scenario... Big 12 fills from the Big East. Big East fills from the C-USA C-USA fill from..... Sun Belt? And we hope that it's NT? Are our facilities alone enough to get us into C-USA? Or do we HAVE TO win THIS YEAR to be marketable for the C-USA? Will one year of winning make a point? I doubt it.

Tulsa game keeps getting easier
kalebschumann replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Lots of Defensive optimism... Where's the offensive optimism? Will the offense be able to put up points with out 28,000 (don't know if we'll ever get 30,000 this season) fans wearing green cheering them on? I just don't know if our offense can be useful unless they're at home... Not holding out too much optimism for the Tulsa game, but I do have tons for the Indiana game. -
It's got to be the Indiana game. At home, against a much better Houston- we played very well for a half. At home, against a much less lopsided match- logic would say that we make it a close game.

So where does this leave the Sun Belt ant NT?

Gosh I hope not! All I get is Edge out here in Jacksboro!

I guess being there at the OU schalacking, watching the UT and Alabama beatings, along with pissing away a horrible game against Rice, and an OT heart breaker against Ohio have skewed my mind... I guess we really only do take one or two money games a year...
