The North Stars were on their way to a Stanley Cup in 1990...

That's what I was thinking while I was reading... He's talking about players that Mac didn't recruit- there has to be a Dodge punch in here somewhere.

That's the best observation of it all I think.

hmmm... Wonder how this will affect the reallignment...

MWC - How Important Is it To Get Back Into Texas ?
kalebschumann replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I think they are quite interested in the geograpgic convenience UTEP gives them over the other benefits that UNT offers. But they bring up good points by trying to bring USTA, Texas St, and UNT together. -
You forgot to add in the money from the New Orleans bowl... I think it comes up to about 34.73 afterwards.

If This Scenario Ever Materializes For North Texas....
kalebschumann replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the lack of Sun Belt items in the App is a brilliant point. I distinctly remember those tacky "NEW ORLEANS BOWL- SUN BELT!" banners in the endzones at Fouts. Glad to see the App doesn't have tacky high school style advertising for the conference. But you gotta think that the absence of SBC logos means something don't you? -
Brilliant! Some person waving a flag in the background of College Game Day is just what we need to get our name out there! ...... I mean- look what it's done for Washingotn. And SMU's recent success is totally due to the College Game Day guy. Brilliant.

Good luck getting a gig. I applied all summer and got a job the week before summer ended. My friends weren't so lucky.

UNT pretty much irrelevant in the Dallas area
kalebschumann replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I think due to the fact that there are SO MANY sporting options, teams, and venues- we don't have to go see crappy teams. Why should the average fan go see UNT struggle to win against a Sun Belt team when they could go watch the Rangers contend for a World Series, watch the Cowboys try to make it to the playoffs, watch high school football, watch TCU, watch SMU, watch FC Dallas, watch the Frisco Rough Riders, the Allen Americans. There are SO MANY sporting events in the DFW that people don't have to suffer through it like those in lesser populated areas do. Why is UTSA's attendance greater than ours? There's only 1 professional team, not 4 (add FC Dallas too) in San Antonio. There aren't all the minor league teams. And there aren't 3 Div. I schools. If UNT was placed in Witchita Falls, San Antonio, Waco, or any city like that- We'd BE HUGELY and WILDLY POPULAR! But we're in a market that forces us to win to be relevant. -
I've found myself wondering why we don't run more traditional screens to the RB. Our offense tends to run WR screens (a ton of them when we were in the Dodge Days) more so than the RB. I feel like getting LD with some blockers and a little bit of space would be a recipe for success. It's not like he can't catch the ball- he leads the team in receiving yards.

(On a side note.. this should kill complaints about why the Green Brigade doesn't use UNT logos on the uniform. SO MANY RULES of what we can and can't use.)
-
I completely agree. I find myself more and more saying NT more so than UNT. It's also the NT Daily... My cheerleader friends were discouraged from using cheers that spell out UNT, and replace them with "We are, North Texas!" cheer. This supports the idea Athletics wants us to be called North Texas. My friends from USC and ND refer to their schools as SC and ND. Why can't we refer to our school as NT? I tell my friends that I went to North Texas, never the University of North Texas, it's just easy. Also: That would be the North Texas logo on the helmets and the front of the Basketball jerseys.

Ok.. I'll buy it. You've convinced me.

Do we think that the Sun Belt is going to get picked from by the Big East, MWC, and CUSA? If that's the case, are we really one of the top choices? Does being a metroplex team with a new stadium give us reason to be picked over all the other Sun Belt teams and UH? I wish it did. But I doubt it. I don't know if we'll even feel any of the ripples in the wave of conference reallignments.

GMG Introductions
kalebschumann replied to kalebschumann's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Yea, you could take it from DFW to Jacksboro -
I think D-Line is the biggest need, followed by CB. Coach Mac may have us set at QB for another year with DT.

Let's just all be happy we can go to Apogee...
kalebschumann replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I think somewhere around 20,000-22,000 is about right. -
So I'm relatively new to GMG. On the past forums that I've posted on, it was common to introduce yourself. I'm a May 2011 Music Ed Graduate. I currently work in Jacksboro, Texas as a band director (about an hour west of Denton). I think it'd be nice if everybody introduced themselves. Does this thread maybe already exist?
