Bad News for P Cobbs ?
Green2012 replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Maybe I'm partial but I just think he could get more pt somewhere else and still be a main player on special teams. Edit: Also I saw where Waters got dropped. If he doesn't get picked up I really hope our department seeks him to fill some kind of role here at UNT. He's been an excellent example and role model while in the NFL. I think he could really do some good things here. -
Texas Debt
Green2012 replied to SilverEagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Thanks for breaking it down. My question is (if I'm understanding your breakdown correctly) if 49 million is principal adding to that state debt does this mean the state is acting as an "investor" by backing up the bond?? Does this mean we are paying back the state (like an investor of a bond) at roughly 6% interest rate hence the $46 million? -
Debt Ceiling

Tired of hearing the Bush excuse. Bush was the most liberal spending "republican" president to date. At least we had a strong foreign policy and refrained from kinetic military action. Washington is failing us on both sides. The republicans are cowering down and I'll bet we see another set of accounting gimmicks that won't even get 1 trillion in spending cuts over a decade. How pathetic. Don't want to piss on the wrong person because its all about reelections and not fixing the problem like they were elected to do. Obama is just sitting on his ass so he doesn't have to take the fall. what a joke. -

Texas Debt
Green2012 replied to SilverEagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Are you referencing the Inheritance Tax/Gift tax? Why should I have to fork over millions of dollars because I inherited my parents estate after they died? Do you not understand how ridiculous that is? Yeah lets tax all the dead people's estates after they are inherited. That'll fix our problems. -

I think I'm just going to sit back and let someone else address this. Is there a popcorn eating emoticon? -
Texas Debt
Green2012 replied to SilverEagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I thought there was a texas supreme court ruling back in 2005 that ruled the current method of education funding primarily through property taxes as unconstitutional. So the Gross margins tax was created to lower property taxes and cover the cost of education. From reading it seems the gross margins tax has failed in producing the amount of revenue it was created for which is one of the reasons why we are in the education funding problem we are in. Please correct me if I'm wrong and off base. My ignorance may be showing. -
Texas Debt

Thanks for the explanation. I was under the impression that investors bought up municipal bonds for a secure investment and avoidance of tax. Is texas being repaid back by local governments with a 6% interest rate like typical bonds? -

Blaming the bare cupboard on dickey and the past four years on dickey. And that we are not yet tier 1 on dickey.

I'm not advocating that scheduling weaker teams is the way to go and we need to dump bringing Kstate etc here. I am however saying I think its important to have a higher confidence level than we have in the past. I think getting blown out at OU for example at the beginning of the season hurts the rest of our season. BUT I think if you were to play the weaker teams at the beginning instead we would go into the OU game with a better performance and confidence level. Take last year for example. We were losing etc etc etc dodge is fired, canales takes over, we beat western and midd tenn, played other games well (besides ULM) and then went into Kstate game with a belief we could win and look how we competed in comparison to previous years and ooc opponents. Don't get me wrong, I think Dmac will have us much more prepared than Dodge or even Canales and that's really what matters but don't believe for a second that previous winning doesn't help. -

Good to see. Not saying USA is some slouch team that we will roll over (sure hope so) but I'd like to see our team mix more of these games in. I realize this game is scheduled due to their transition but I think we have another FCS game the same season correct? I think its important to mix it in with Alabama and LSU but these games (hopefully) build confidence that will, I believe, improve our performance against the "bigger" universities. -
Forrest Rucker didn't quit he was suspended indefinitely. So under your criterion he would not be labeled a quitter.

I know its offseason and some jokes are funny and all but that's a little too far and pretty pathetic on your part. You want a Gio update? His best friend died, so I'm sure he's trying to get over it and move on. Maybe some on here should do the same.

Texas Debt
Green2012 replied to SilverEagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
yyz. Can you explain this a little better? I was approached yesterday actually with some lib throwing the Texas debt in my face and honestly I didn't have an argument for our Texas debt. He claimed it was due to Perry spending but I told him that couldn't be the case. This article seems extremely liberal slanted but here it is. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/07/06/261752/perry-budget-accounting-gimmicks/ Surprisingly this is alot of the same hooplah that was thrown at me. -

Green2012 replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Surely you are not about to advocate that only Republicans propose earmarks? Yes, vetoing them would've shown better leadership. We should ask Bush and Obama why they didn't/aren't vetoing such legislation. I'll try again, can you provide some Democratic sponsored programs proposed to be cut where instead Republican sponsored programs are receiving funding? -
More importantly, any update on how Ron Mendoza is doing?
