  1. I promised myself not to be critical of how governments handle the Gustav crisis, but I can't hold back any longer. Why is Gov Rick Perry welcoming 45,000 refugees to Texas? It made sense that refugees would go west during Katrina. Katrina moved to the north and northeast after landfall. What we have now is a different situation which requires a different plan. Gustav appears to be headed towards the DFW metroplex. It is crazy to have refugees moving in the same direction as the path of the hurricane. This time the refugees should go to other states.
  2. UNO is on beach of Lake Pontchartrain. If heavy rains cause the levies to break, basketball venue Lakefront Areana will probably be damaged again. It was re-opened this May after three years of repairs. Yahoo Weather New Orleans: Tomorrow: Hurricane conditions likely. Bands of heavy rain containing strong gusty winds at times. High 81F. ENE winds at 35 to 50 mph, increasing to 60 to 80 mph. Rainfall expected to exceed 2 inches. Tomorrow night: Hurricane conditions likely. Showery rains containing strong gusty winds and heavy downpours at times. Low 77F. SSE winds at 60 to 80 mph, diminishing to 35 to 50 mph. Significant rainfall amounts possible. Yahoo Weather Lafayette: Tomorrow: Tropical storm force winds expected. Windy. Rain showers early becoming a steady, heavy rain later in the day. High 81F. Winds NNE at 25 to 40 mph. Rainfall possibly over one inch. Tomorrow night: Hurricane force winds expected. Showery rains containing strong gusty winds and heavy downpours at times. Low near 75F. Winds NW at 70 to 90 mph. Significant rainfall amounts possible.
  3. Has it been established that there is a conflict between Amber Jackson and a coach? Often suspensions are the result of low grades, missing study hall, or being absent or tardy at team practice or weight sessions.
  4. The other incoming freshman are all guards. The three returning post players: 20 Bailey, Brittani P 6-3 So. Alvin, TX (Alvin H.S.) 21 Goodman, Mimi P 6-2 Jr. Batesville, AR (Batesville H.S.) 42 Timms, Torrian P 6-0 Jr. Waxahachie, TX (Waxahachie H.S.) Bailey had 89 minutes experience as a freshman. In two seasons Goodman played 56 minutes and Timms played 80.
  5. The first two posts on the SMU message board about Cameron Spencer leaving were both generally positive about him and his ability. One poster even said he was "glad he (Cameron) found a good program to go to." Usually anyone leaving a program is demonized on the former home board. He is a hard worker and always brought energy to the floor. His footwork and passing skills are pretty advanced for a big but he really, really needs to work on his offensive game. Heck, even being able to consistently finish inside of 5 feet would make him a valuable player considering the other things he brings to the table. This redshirt year sitting out could be the best thing that happened to Cam. Best of luck! Also, I think he will playing a "very relaxed" style of play that Jones operates under. I'm glad he found a good program to go to & agree that it was best for him to move on.
  6. The protection can be put into the contract. Often there is a buy-out clause in a contract. The signing school has to pay for the remaining years. I noticed Arkansas is playing at South Alabama this season. I have to believe there is some connection to Arkansas signing USA coach John Pelphrey. The home game may have been in the contract or negotiated in lieu of a cash payout. North Texas was protected from former football coach Darrell Dickey recruiting players for another school that he had contact with while at North Texas. I think it is very important to put that into a contract. When Ronnie Arrow left Texas A&M CC he took most of the Islanders recruiting class to with him to South Alabama.

  8. Just for a minute , let's forget the ethics and legality of the situation. Just look at the competence in handling the problem. Russia expected this conflict. They were ready with a plan. They struck with overwhelming force, IMMEDIATELY. Compare this with the Bush administration ignoring Clinton's warnings about bin Laden. Then, rattling sabers for a month while the bulk of Al-Queda escaped to Pakistan. And finally, not having the nerve to send in ground troops.. but instead paying Afghan war lords to to take on Al-Queda. One other thing. If there is an occupation of Georgia, you can count on Russia to send enough troops to do the job and to confiscate all weapons and respond quickly with overwhelming force against any opposition. Unlike the U.S. occupation of Iraq, can you imagine Russian troops standing by watching Georgians loot and fire RPG's into bank vaults.
  9. I doubt it. Surely Deon would have attended Fred's games.
  10. Chase Spruiell is going to D-2 St Edwards. According to Rivals, Spruiell probably would have had some D-1 offers if he had waited, but he liked Austin and St Edwards and decided to go there. Rivals said Denver was constantly in contact with Spruiell. Other interested D-1's were UTSA, Marist and Brown. I think he would have been perfect for the Denver offense. Last year's AAU Dallas Heroes ran the Denver offense and Spruiell usually was the leading scorer. Fred Hunter of Denton is going to Nichols St.
  11. There is no reason not to have a good crowd that night. It is on a Saturday night and final exams don't begin until Monday.
  12. Apologies if this has already been posted. It is several days old. www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/drc/sports/stories/DRC_NT_Hall_0726.2575b3d.html
  13. DRC story I like the idea of putting athletes in the Hall of Fame while they are still young and fresh on the minds of our fans. By now, most of the deserving old timers are in the Hall of Fame. Congrats to Chris. He was loyal during some tough times that saw others leave North Texas. He is still loyal today, and is often in the stands when not playing basketball in europe. He was also an outstanding player. I wish I had a quarter for every time an announcer has said," So and So is so versatile he can play the 1,2,3 and 4." Chris Davis really did play four different positions.
  14. The Houston 2008-09 schedule "as is" reported by the Houston Chronicle. www.chron.com/commons/persona.html?newspaperUserId=sarcoog2010&plckController=PersonaBlog&plckScript=personaScript&plckElementId=personaDest&plckPersonaPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3Asarcoog2010Post%3A273b72eb-8c13-481d-88e6-b7f93fbbc5bf
  15. Osama is not a true documentary but is based on a true story and used amateur actors and a budget of less than $50,000. It was written and directed by an Afghan. It is about a young girl in Afghanistan during the period of Taliban rule. Women are not allowed to leave their home unless they have a male escort. All of the little girl's male relatives have been killed in the never-ending fighting. She pretends to be a boy so she can support the women in her family, and she assumes the name Osama. This movie will make you cry.
  16. The Link didn't work. Cut and Paste from Wikipedia questions: When is the 2008-2009 men's basketball schedule going to be released? In: Miscellaneous College Basketball [Edit] There is no easy answer to this question as there is no specific time table for colleges to release their basketball schedules. Typically they will begin to be released by a handful of schools in June (some may even be announced as early as May). Most will officially announce before the start of school in late August and early September. It is also likely some schools will release with pending "open dates" (usually tournaments or attempts to wait out "buy games") that sometimes have not been announced by some schools until the last couple weeks before practices can start in October. The reasons for the disparities are some schools may enter a season with their non-conference slate already set due to multi-year contracts with other schools, tournament arrangements, conference schedules, date conflicts, buy-game demands, and facility conflicts for previously contracted games to name just a few. As of July 1, 2008 South Alabama, Navy, and California (among others) have announced their complete schedules, while for instance Texas Tech and Utah have announced the non-conference portion of their schedules.

  20. You don't have to renew now. You have until Oct 8, 2008 to renew. If you are willing to renew before August, 20 you get to renew at last season's prices and get a voucher for two free tickets. 2008- 09 home schedule: Texas-Arlington New Mexico St (barring an unforseen buy-out) Ark St Ark-Little Rock Denver Louisiana U La-Monroe New Orleans Three Eastern Division Sun Belt teams. Most likely: Troy Florida Atlantic Middle Tennessee In past seasons, like most D-1 teams North Texas has opened the season with a D-2 or NAIA team. The Sun Belt has 13 teams. This leaves each team with a bye, and about a week with no game. Most Sun Belt teams schedule a D-2 or NAIA game to keep their edge. Maybe this season we will get lucky and have a bracket-buster game. The above adds to 13 home games. Last season we had 15 home games.
  21. We play at Indiana St. Centenary has released their schedule and NT is not on it. Just a guess, but I bet we go to Southern. It is in Baton Rouge and is a possible recruiting area. Hartford....?
  22. Houston Hoops plays at 9:45am in Men's Gym 2, and 4pm in PEB 2, Augustine Rubit is not listed on the roster but the big guy wearing #41 looked like the photo in Rivals.
  23. Charleston Post and Courrier Temple fan site
  24. Info is in the third paragraph.

Adrien Choplick's son (i can't remember his first name) Does Caden Dickerson still play for the Dallas Heroes? It used to be that many Denton players played for the Denton Bulls. Is the North Texas Bulls the new Denton team?
