GoMeanGreen.com Barbershop Podcast #179 Audio Link
jdennis82 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Enjoyed the pod, guys! While I certainly don't agree with the view that the McCasland hire is a misguided allocation of resources, I definitely support the open discussion with varied opinion. I only wish others would have challenged the complete resignation to CUSA being a one bid conference. If all programs improved collectively, what's to keep CUSA from occasionally having multiple representatives? Also, spending this kind of money suggests the expectation of McCasland is that he be that one bid, if the conference only gets one. I'm very excited to place that level of expectation on the program. -
Love this...his vision for a program's culture matches Littrell's nearly word for word. Exciting times in Denton

MBB Candidate could be Ray Harper
jdennis82 replied to UNT Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Harper had rough exits from both Kentucky Wesleyan & WKU. If this is the hire, I expect to hear Wren speak at length about fully vetting out these issues and implementing procedures to make sure our program doesn't get wrapped up in similar controversy. This is a big hire for Wren...more important than getting it right on the court is making sure not to get it it wrong off the court. -
I agree with what others have said - the character of those on this staff was such that they would have been out recruiting just as hard as they would have otherwise. I would be intrigued to know more about the timing of everything. Were these moves known but delayed in announcing until after recruiting season? If so, how did that impact the coaches' recruiting pitches? My hope is that those young men who have just committed to representing our University weren't knowingly sold on a coaching relationship that would be turned over before they reached campus. I assume that all these moves were up in the air throughout until after the recruiting cycle and other dominoes began to fall.

Ryan Stanchek Ryan Stanchek enters his third season as the Braves offensive line coach after helping set the Southwestern Athletic Conference rushing record in each of his first two seasons (3,812 in 2015). Alcorn led the nation in yards per carry (6.66 in 2015; 6.42 in 2014) and rushing touchdowns (44 in 2015; 50 in 2014). Alcorn averaged 324.2 yards rushing per SWAC contest. In 2015, Stanchek mentored Isekelli Ongosia and Detonio Dade to First-Team All-SWAC selections. Dade was also named First-Team SBN All-American Team and Ongosia was SBN All-American Honorable Mention Selection. Isaac Sampson was a First-Team All-SWAC and SBN All-American in 2014. Detonio Dade was a Second-Team All-SWAC performer in 2014. Stanchek previously served as an offensive graduate assistant at Indiana University from 2011 to 2013. He worked with the offensive line core at Florida State in 2011 as an offensive quality control. Over the last five years, Stanchek has worked with five offensive linemen who have been selected in the NFL Draft. http://www.alcornsports.com/staff.aspx?staff=97

'17 OL Brian Parish (Arlington Seguin) [LOI: NT]

Welcome aboard! These guys must've watched "Beyond the Green" and took note of the heavy camera time devoted to members of the OL -
Tavares Thomas Jr. (Navarro JC) [LOI: MTSU]
jdennis82 replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
If I read Vito's report correctly, his vist to Murfreesboro is without an offer on the table. His decision to take that visit and delay a trip to Denton seems like he's patient and calculated in making the decision. This should be good news for the Mean Green...he won't be pressured into signing without visiting Denton and if he's making the final pitch, this guy won't be denied... -
Excited to see the QBs compete this spring...hoping it brings out the best in all

MGB: Source confirms Biagi is UNT's new assistant
jdennis82 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If the 2016 season taught me anything, it was that Littrell had a vision for his coaching staff. I will trust him here. -
What an incredible representative of and ambassador for the program Quite a bit to digest, but according to this attempt to build out a statistical representation of defensive players' values, Orr came in 10th in the NFL in +Expected Points Added... (Robertson ranked #52)

BTG Bowl Episode - Thursday Jan 5 @ 4:00 pm
jdennis82 replied to BeyondTheGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Phenomenal work as usual, Ashton. The episode really highlighted the many positives of the bowl experience for players, program, and fans. I hadn't really thought about it until watching the Buyers interview in this episode, but even though the game ended in defeat, I'm sure glad the team (especially the seniors) were able to get the bad taste of the poor showing in El Paso out of their mouths. -
Hoping the best for him and his family wherever he ends up. Some info on what they've been through... http://www.tarasawyer.org/tara_sawyer/

Breaking Jalen Guyton WR Trinity Valley
jdennis82 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Excited about the talent. Feeling no need to speculate on the reason for his exit from Notre Dame, I'm choosing to trust that the staff has done their due dilligence on any off field concerns and have plans in place to help this young man keep those in the rear view mirror. To this point - as seen in the way Goree's dismissal was handled - Littrell has earned the trust that he values the culture of the locker room highly. -
The 39k in attendance yesterday proved/confirmed two things North Texas fans can make the trip to Dallas - with a good offseason and a well-played victory over Lamar to open things, there's no reason we shouldn't invade Ford Stadium in full force next year Army vets/fans from the Metroplex will turn out to support a good Army program - I didn't venture over to the Army side but would love to know if there was some sort of promotion inviting those fans to Denton for the Nov 18 return date. I'm also hopeful Wren can work with those guys to make sure every fan in attendance - regardless of affiliation - is reminded between now and then that they need to be at Apogee next fall.

Bowl Season over now onto Recruiting Season
jdennis82 replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Some ways I think we can aid recruiting without contacting them directly... financially supporting the Mean Green Club to increase the recruiting budget. showing up to create an atmosphere that's attractive to recruits. promoting its official social media efforts giving careful consideration to the way thoughts are expressed on this message board -

It is not lost on us that many of you had to make major adjustments to family Christmas traditions and your semester break wasn't exactly the relaxation that many of your classmates enjoyed. When you take the field tomorrow, you will represent our University well. The conversation surrounding our appearance in a bowl game centers around two things: The turnaround from previous seasons The academic success by which you earned your inclusion this year Both of these are direct results of your commitment to being "selfless, tough, and disciplined" Thanks for a great ride this season!

'17 ATH Tre'von Bradley (Cleburne) [LOI: UH]
jdennis82 replied to UNT90's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
The offense needs dynamic playmakers and it appears - whatever the position - Tre'von is just that. Welcome aboard, Mr. Bradley! -
This... 2016 wasn't about being considered as one of the best bowl teams in the nation. It was about being considered for the "most improved" list. The exhausting work put in by staff and players made the latter something I think we'd easily be in discussion for.

Mac and RV deserve some credit for this bowl
jdennis82 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Largely agree but made a couple changes to see that Hank gets credited for his involvement. -
What else is there to say...incredible work by Ashton & Co! **Spoilers Below** Amazing telling of the incredibly intriguing story of gmg.com favorite Kevin Dillman. I was impressed by the authenticity pulled out of each interview participant. In all, I thought it a great reminder of just how important the "Mean Green Family" is for a guy like Dillman is while calling Denton home. The feature on the senior class was also well done. A senior class that likely won't be remembered the way that 2013 class is but one that has shown a season-long determination to leave a legacy of change and new beginnings - rather than one of transitional insignificance. I thought the segment perfectly kept the episode momentum driving toward what we knew would be highlights of a critical victory at Apogee. As always, the game highlights coupled with locker room and sideline access was top notch.
