  1. With bowl season up on us, thought I'd take a look at how the conference has performed in non-conference games so far... Vs Power 5 (2-18) ACC (1-4) 1 bowl matchup (USM v FSU) Big 10 (0-4) Big12 (1-2) SEC (0-6) PAC12 (0-2) Vs Group of 5 (10-8) AAC (1-4) 2 bowl matchups (La Tech vs SMU // FIU vs Temple) MAC (5-2) 2 bowl matchups (UAB vs Ohio // FAU vs Akron) MWC (0-0) 1 bowl matchup (Marshall vs CSU) Sunbelt (4-2) 3 bowl matchups (NT vs Troy // MTSU vs Ark St // WKU vs GSU) Vs Independents (3-1) **Updated to reflect MTSU over SU
  2. FYI...looks like I'm seeing the game on Fox College Sports (channel 283 on Charter/Spectrum)
  3. The players were vocal about execution, not coaching, as being responsible for the results in Round 1. Perfect chance for redemption.
  4. Doing so while carrying themselves with class and faithfully serving the community (thanks BTG for the incredible access to what would otherwise go unnoticed by those outside the program). I was a student during the Sun Belt championship seasons and the consistent success helped develop a life-long connection between many of us of that era and our University. It's exciting to think that a new group of students may be experiencing the same right now.
  5. Big fan of The Solid Verbal podcast and while they primarily stick to P5 discussion, they do talk a little North Texas v Army and Mason Fine makes their Week 12 Dude Alert segment http://www.solidverbal.com/2017/11/19/college-football-week-12-recap/ (Mean Green relevant discussion begins around 1:00:45)

  6. This aspect of improvement can't be highlighted enough. Even early on this season, drive killing (on offense) and drive extending (on defense) flags were a frustrating issue. Credit to the staff and players for buttoning things up in a significant way.
  7. First time I've noticed the list has been updated to include Wilson, McClain, and Moore... https://www.seniorbowl.com/watch-list-profiles.php?position=&conference=C-USA&s_id= If those one or all of those guys can make the cut, could go a long way to ending our NFL Draft drought.
  8. Welcome aboard, Austin! Always excited to hear when a youngster signs on to help represent our alma mater...an added bonus when the talent ceiling is as high as appears to be the case here.
  9. This episode is just what the Dr. ordered... After the bad taste in everyone's mouth from the loss last Saturday, the opening segment with our guys spending time with the kids at Children's Health was the perfectly welcomed reminder that now matter what happens on the field, these guys work hard to represent our University well in the community. The reality is, their time spent playing with those kids had a greater impact on the kids' lives than the loss to FAU had on mine. Sitting through the game segments were tough but, as usual, the sideline coverage was incredible. Really enjoyed following coach Brown as he tried to raise the level of enthusiasm on the sideline by encouraging each member of the offense after a successful drive. Finally, the final segment showed exactly what Ashton spoke about on the Barbershop Pod...the players truly have looked in the mirror and I'm confident we see a squad tomorrow that's fully engaged and ready to prove last week to be a forgettable hiccup. Like EJ Ejiya said, better to learn the lessons they seem to have now than to stumble through overconfidence late - as may've been the case in 2013 and possible last year vs UTEP.
  10. Really like the logo - represents the venue well while maintaining visual priority on the event (CUSA Championships) Hope there isn't issue with sunlight impacting play at The Star
  11. As the season's progressed, I've continued to try to find a current or recent NFL RB to compare Wilson to. Wilson's listed at 6-0 / 194 which is a pretty unique combination as most NFL prospects his height are heavier and those at his weight are a few inches shorter. Finally, though, I think I may have found a reasonable comparison... Ahmad Bradshaw Bradshaw's measurements: 5-11, 195lb When I'm watching a Bradshaw highlight package (particularly from Marshall), I think I see a bit of Wilson there. Thoughts?
  12. I'm most interested in the 12/1/17 team being better than the 10/3/17 squad If they continue to improve, I'll be excited to revisit this discussion after a bowl victory
  13. Thanks, as always, for taking the time and making the effort to make this podcast happen! I had an observation while listening this morning... It seemed clear that Ashton was a bit frustrated by some opinions expressed on the board about last week's episode of "Beyond the Green". I think we all can agree that Ashton will forget more about television/video production and direction than most of the rest of us will ever know and I also think the same can be said for the players/coaches with respect to football. If an adult who's already had much success and built a noteworthy reputation in his industry concerns himself with the feedback of his work as expressed on GMG, how much more an 18yr old kid working hard to build a reputation as a good representative of the University of North Texas? Just something to consider as we determine the best way to channel any negative thoughts about the team/program.
  14. Per Winsipedia... http://www.winsipedia.com/north-texas All-time Record = 500 - 499 - 33 Let's make sure we stay above .500 from here on out
  15. Thanks for your work covering the squad. Recently had your "Five Underrated People" article posted on the board...very well done. As for questions: 1. In what ways have you seen Graham Harrell improve as a play caller in year 2? 2. Is there a schematic difference leading to the quiet season for K. McClain?
  16. Well played by the staff. Kids visit during the attendance boost of family weekend and are seated together with fellow targets watching the 2013 squad get recognized for their contribution to the program. I can easily picture them talking up the idea of joining together to get rings of their own while in Denton. Ideally, some will also take in the HOF festivities and be motivated to work toward a HOF worthy career of there own for the Mean Green.
  17. Obviously, most on the board are already familiar with all those listed - except "Josh Woods and company" - but I definitely appreciate Matthew Brune's effort to find a way to inform his audience (NT students) about some figures in the program who won't be featured on a flyer or promo video.
  18. Well done, as always.
  19. Somehow, our guys were overlooked when their list was compiled. Time to get in their ears about this oversight... srbowl@seniorbowl.com
  20. Still out there representing himself and North Texas with incredible class... http://www.raiders.com/news/article-1/Fullback-Jamize-Olawale-Taking-It-Upon-Himself-To-Lead-By-Example/360f376e-0c82-4a83-aaa8-d18c765f177e?sf107840658=1 I'm thinking the author could've saved some time by simply describing Olawale as selfless, tough, and disciplined (though he is obviously of a previous era).

  21. Fantastic. Honestly, was expecting something more on the generic side like Marshall's new look... Glad to be proven wrong. This is New Denton.
  22. I'll trust the staff is handling this appropriately in terms of choosing not to formally name a starter but I sure hope they don't have the team looking past Lamar. The pain of Portland State still lingers
  23. Yet another incredibly produced picture of just how great an investment it is to join the MGC. Proud of what Mr. McClain's already become and accomplished and can't wait to see what's next for the young man.
  24. In general, finding a way to speed up the game is critical for all of college football. Specifically at Apogee, I would love to have the players featured more in short videos played during the game. I'm imagining something like: Jeffrey Wilson running for a first down and instead of the PA guy leading the "and that's good for a Mean Green FIRST DOWN" it's a video of Wilson leading this cheer Bryce English on the Video Board inciting fans to get to their feet for a big 3rd down Not only would this allow fans in the stadium to feel more engagement with the players they're supporting but I could see recruits enjoying the prospect of having similar opportunity to be showcased on the Jumbotron
  25. Can't wait to see how many scouts start sniffing around after our DBs put on a show September 9th avenging last year's tough outing against Sutton.
