Memphis basketball has been in the media for a lot of things, not always good things.... Memphis will be fined $5,000 plus 0.25% of its average men's basketball budget — based on the average of the program's last three total budgets. Probation starts Tuesday and runs to Sept. 26, 2025.Sep 27, 2022

Avoid HS recruits, too much risk. JUCOs and Portal transfers only.

Tech fans would revolt. Ross has no skins or banners yet as a Dl coach. He has no connection to Tech like Grant did.
-
Seriously? That would be poor for Hodge's own career. It would be like Bill Belichick to Tom Brady: "Maybe go test the waters at Tampa Bay?". lol How could that possibly hurt Bill Belichick?

I found our loophole around paying out a lot of NIL...recruit more Canadians! "Since Edey, who is Canadian, is at Purdue on a student visa, he is not legally allowed to make any money through NIL deals that take place in America." https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39882011/purdue-zach-edey-missing-profits-due-us-nil-law

I wonder how many of those 2000 players were D1 starters vs bench warmers? I'd guess 20% vs 80%.

5 years is the common length of a coaching contract. We didn't (don't) have the $$ to fire early. Wren even kept Benford for his 5th year after he ruined the basketball program. Wren made another poor decision to extend Seth, that's all on him!
-
Yes, similar deal to Wren's at WVU with their basketball coach.

Crazy ending. Seton Hall on late 9-0 run to win 79-77! NT is runner up!

Tied up at 65 with 7 minutes left.

The last 4 fired football coaches would like a word with you....

I bet if you asked Rutgers they would do the same again to get into the Big 10. I thought they were low-hanging fruit for the Big 10 to want. I know they wanted the NYC market but Rutgers has always underwhelmed imo. Some schools would sell their souls and mothers to get into the P5. I won’t mention their Highland Park name.

He seems like he has experience across several college sports entities and media networks. Very glad it’s not Judy!

Stone was great in high school. Portal and JUCO players have already shown their ability at the college level.

Like many of the remote location schools, more support because less options for entertainment. What else are you going to do in Lubbock, Texas or Greenville, NC other than watch and support college sports?

Report: CFB 'Super League' to Replace NCAA, CFP Being Discussed by School Presidents "The current CST outline would create a system that would have the top 70 programs — all members of the five former major conferences, plus Notre Dame and new ACC member SMU — as permanent members and encompass all 130-plus FBS universities," Marchand and Mandel reported. "The perpetual members would be in seven 10-team divisions, joined by an eighth division of teams that would be promoted from the second tier." https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10115514-report-cfb-super-league-to-replace-ncaa-cfp-being-discussed-by-school-presidents?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial

It's not a new phenomenon. Whenever there is excess wealth... there is always $mut to follow.

1-1 in the 6th inning. Game on ESPN+

Doesn't even look like Rogers will start at Cal

We joke, but I believe we need our Phil Knight or Powerball donor in this new era of buy-a-player. It sucks until the programs agree on a salary cap and player contracts. Contracts will bind the players to a program for a set period, otherwise it's just always an open market. If it only comes down to most money wins, then all games and championships are basically meaningless. -
We needed some changes, just not sure it was this much change. But look at the pieces Ross brought in this season. Had we not gotten the injury bug we would have had 20 wins. That should be the bar every season.

The great equalizer is that all programs seem to be doing roster makeovers after each season now, even the Georgia and Alabama types. Players either jump to bigger programs, or chase $$ at an equal or upper program, or change just to get more playing time. I doubt we ever see more elite athletes like Kenny Lyons, Joe Greene, Patrick Cobbs type players that spend their entire college career with NT... then continue to support the program after.
