I think you missed the context of the conversation. Like more of anything, there is a downside of too much. Diluted value because of excess quantity.

That's why college football attendance has dropped overall and fans don't travel as much. No need to.

College football used to be special. TV was for Big or Special games. I have some of NT's early TV games on VHS tapes, because they were so rare. Now every game is broadcast live, either TV or streaming. Bowl games used to be Special. Now, even teams with losing records can go to Bowl games to fill open spots. Media and $$ are now controlling the games, the conference invites, the team rosters, everything.....not the schools.

Official announced attendance was only 11K (tickets sold). I don't see 13-15K here....

Sources: Florida State discussing future in ACC after CFP snub
NT80 replied to NT80's topic in Conference ReAlignment
Florida State calls special board meeting amid uncertain future TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State has called a special board of trustees meeting for Friday morning. While no official reason was given for the meeting, sources indicated to ESPN that the board is expected to discuss its long-term athletics future. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39160799/florida-state-calls-special-board-meeting-amid-uncertain-future -
Different ways to read this. The part "will try to sign" doesn't sound like any sense of need or urgency. The part "HS, transfer, whatever" again doesn't signal concern, or even focus on a specific target or group. Not sure if this implies we already have who we need or waiting until later? QB is the most important piece, the face of a team. It is the lone metric that defines the value of the team. Just ask FSU losing their QB, but still winning, yet falling out of CFP consideration because of it.

I notice more lower Bowls this year picking local or at least regional teams to try and draw some fans. Boston College in the Fenway Bowl (lol), NMSU in the New Mexico Bowl, UNLV in Tucson, Rice & TX State at Smut Bowl, UTSA in Frisco, etc. The Frisco Bowl was nice weather and attendance still only looked like maybe 4,000 or so. 7-5 record should be the minimum for a Bowl. Next year when the CFP increases to 12 teams these minor Bowls will be even further diminished in value.

AAC Conference Championship at Dickies
NT80 replied to Glory to the Green's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It's still early in the season. Hopefully Coach will make some adjustments going forward as he learns who does what best or doesn't do. The road trip was ugly. -
"I think we should all be independent in football," Kelly said. "You can have a 64-team conference that's in the Power 5 and you can have a 64-team conference in the Group of 5, and we separate it and we play each other." Kelly said he believes there should be one TV contract that includes every conference, where potential regional divisions are sponsored by brands and the overall media offering is stronger and more appealing to potential TV partners. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39130831/ucla-chip-kelly-advocates-single-power-five-conference

I can't keep up with all the portal changes and new recruiting allowances. Can someone more in tuned enlighten me... How many openings did we have? How many have we signed so far? = How many remaining ships available? And this can all change again in the spring, right? Too confusing!

Yes, Jason Bean was a work-in-progress here, but once he matured/gained experience he was good at KU.
-
Yes, the biggest issue is not signing the players... it's keeping the "good players" after a year of being good here.

Two (2) true freshman started for each team in the UTSA/Marshall Bowl game last night (sons of NFL QBs). It was not pretty.
-
Xmas list: more Defensive Beef, a transfer QB (Tulsa?), kicker, punter, ....
-
The announcers were really getting on some of the players during the game. It started with poor QB play and decisions to keep throwing at the best cover DB. The good Marshall RB didn't play in the second half and they implied he decided to skip it. Then a couple UTSA players appeared to fake injuries on the field when Marshall went up-tempo and was driving.

So when they leave us do we let them come back?
NT80 replied to Tommy Gadberry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes; the NFL will find you if you are playing and put up good stats. Potentially not playing, and not being seen, should have been a bigger consideration. -

Would probably have to beat some tougher opponents. Lots of cupcakes on their early schedule.
-
"He played seven years..." Seriously, sorry to hear he couldn't finish it out, but 7 years? He should have a PhD, if they offered those....
-
Is this Harris' last night with UTSAJrCol.? I will be cheering for Marshall!

The situation is expected to come to a head in the near future and be formally discussed soon, sources indicated to ESPN. While there has been renewed discussion, no board of trustees meeting has been called. To be clear, Florida State is not leaving the ACC in the near term but is merely weighing its options -- a difficult task that also has come with trepidation among some involved in the talks. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39150367/florida-state-discussing-future-acc-following-cfp-snub

Calling This Before I Can Say "I Told You So"
NT80 replied to rojomojo's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Take a LONG walk on a short pier in Norway! -
Can you make something in Black or Grey that the players might like??

Agree. "North Texas" covers all eras and generations of fans and alums. Similarly I will use NT in writing sometimes, but never UNT. I didn't attend UNT!
