  1. Where are we now...1-AA > Big West > SLC > CUSA > to AAC in Football and other sports is excellent growth. Don't wreck it with a bad decision. We have moved up faster than most schools and bypassed a few like Southern Miss and Marshall. Patience is the plan. Over-reaction right now is not an intelligent move.
  2. The FBS landscape is all very fluid. Fans and admins are emotional right now, as we can hear by Coach Morris and Coach Calipari's NIL comments. NIL, Portal, G5, P4, P2, SEC/Big10 split off, a lame NCAA, CFP revisions, realignment still happening, etc. Lots of issues and potential changes. I value Arkstfan's take on things. He usually has a sensible, common sense feel for what could happen. In the Sonny Dykes thread he says... "Taking a break from writing a piece on this very subject. I don't think it's going to be what so many expect simply because nothing says the current framework has to remain." Hopefully that means perhaps a new organization will replace the NCAA and get things back in order. Once the courts got involved with allowing payments to players the earthquakes started. I say hold tight for now and see what the near future brings in calmer seas.
  3. UTA defunded their football out of existence. The stated intent (like yours) was to put more funding into basketball to raise it to National prominence. Neither happened, then or since.
  4. I've been saying it since last year, the sooner we start cutting the football budget to add to the basketball budget the better off we will be. You highlighted the above part of a ntmeangreen11 post, then added the applause photo and: "I don't understand how our own fans/alum or administration can't see this. Yeah, Yeah - I get it. This is TEXAS!!!!!!!! But I also get simple math and resource allocation." That sounds like endorsing defunding or reducing funding for football to me. I totally understand the feeling of it being a lost cause now with NIL and Portal taking a huge hit on football. But basketball too is under fire (losing 9 players) and we have lost softball pitchers also to P5's. Basically all our sports are under fire. But so is every program, even Alabama. They just can reload easier. Doesn't mean we abandon our programs, regardless of how sad the coach talks.
  5. Agree. It's the shallow end of FBS that needs blocked off and is polluting the water.
  6. Agree. We need more pitching too. Excellent pitching is what elite teams have. We had one and she got bought by OU. We need more.
  7. I think being in the AAC greatly elevated our ESPN main channel access. Every football game was broadcast on at least ESPN+, but we had a main channel game (ESPN, -2 or -U) at least once or twice too. Never had that much good coverage.
  8. If you're wanting to defund football it will turn us into UTA.
  9. CLT caught two NT homers at the top of the outfield wall. Otherwise we win this game 5-3.
  10. Agree that FCS is largely ignored. Even ESPN mostly ignores it on their site. Dll and NAIA are ignored as well. Any lower-division will become 3rd class seating and accommodations. I have watched parts of Montana games and parts of SHSU games and NDSU and some of the Frisco FCS Championship games. But I never had enough interest to watch an entire FCS game since it became FCS from 1-AA.
  11. Tulsa fell apart with errors and lost 11-9 to WSU.
  12. It looked like one of our players may have got hurt (leg or ankle?) near the dugout during the postgame celebration on the field? I couldn't see who it was or had bad it was.
  13. Too light to play the 5 spot, but I like 6-9. Do we have any scholarships remaining after him?
  14. And I'm ok with the Top 40-45 football powers doing their own playoff...as long as the weak links are demoted. It's not a true Power league with the likes of Smut and the schools you name above making the cut.
  15. The separation now from P4 to G5 is informal. The formal relegation of G5 to some lower tier is what I am against. We have played top level football schools in all of our football history, just not as conference members usually. Our first game ever was against TCU. The lineup you mention about would be great. But Smut, TCU, Baylor, and Houston have visions of staying in the top "power" tier or whatever fake name they assign it.
  16. Fans are not valued or sought out at programs like ours. They either are or are not fans by their own interest. With NIL the emphasi$ on players is even greater and fans are forgotten even more. The sports at NT don't sell themselves to produce more fans. It has to be cultivated thru the AD and reach-outs to students, Alums and locals.
  17. It's a group of schools in college football being artificially demoted over another group with a G5 label for the unwanted group. There is no "Power" in some of those "top rated" football programs like Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Smut, etc... It's similar to the European Super League splitting off into a 64-team soccer league. https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/european-super-league-new-format-a22-aleksander-ceferin-uefa-reaction/#:~:text=All teams will play home, and relegation between the leagues.
  18. He is in retirement mode and not about to take that on. However, I would like to hear the AD's opinion on the subject. Strangely quiet in the castle lately. Is the Morris-talk code for we need to decide what to do with our limited funds? Buildings benefit more players and fans. But salaries seem to be top priority for players these days...then they leave us anyway!
  19. Today's results and future tournament games... https://theamerican.org/tournaments/?id=302
  20. Exactly. 20-24 teams in the SEC and Big10, with divisions, just like the NFC and AFC in the NFL. The winner of each conference meets for the College Super Bowl.
  21. It is exactly the same as 1-AA or FCS. G5 is just a different title for it. It's all money-driven. More money needed from media for fewer elite teams to be able to pay player salaries. Next will be Dl basketball splitting into Dl-A. The Top 6-8 basketball conferences forming their own league.
  22. The purple-hairs and protestors are probably not hard core Mean Green sports fans. Is being a liberal arts school to blame? Part of the issue is management just letting the programs sell themselves. More investment in marketing to the public and Alums instead of students has always been needed here. I feel lack of fan support really goes deeper than the current makeup of the student body. Part of it is not ever having a Medical school, Law school, or Engineering school on the Denton campus. Grads of those majors earn huge salaries, much more than Education or Arts majors. Thus they are more likely to give back more to Athletics.
