  1. There is no salesmanship in the AD's office. It's just on autopilot as usual. They should have had the new stadium chairback seats installed for the Fan Preview event, to entice fans to perhaps upgrade to those prime seating areas. But we got "nothing to see here" instead.
  2. Yes, this was his downfall. He claimed to have "a plan" or football playbook strategy that could transcend levels of football and be successful. Well, not so much. I attended his first NT game at OU. Total disaster; OU had to try hard not to keep scoring on us = 79-10. 2007 [edit] During his first season as head coach, UNT went 2–10. Dodge's spread offense averaged 408.4 total yards and 24.8 points per game while giving up 39 sacks.[12] Dodge brought most of his original college coaching staff from the high school ranks, and the team struggled to compete against non-conference and Sun Belt foes. UNT's defensive squad, directed by Ron Mendoza, gave up an FBS-worst 45.1 points per game.[13] Soon after the season ended, Dodge dismissed Mendoza.[14]
  3. RV went for the free advertising for the program. Dodge was a Texas high school coaching legend and media darling. We had LOTS of media with his hire...before he started losing. 10X more than any football HC hire since.
  4. Not sure how much buy-in there was from Littrell's returning players last year. I recall Morris saying it also takes a year for a roster to become mostly "their guys" and ensure the ones remaining are all-in....at least until they get bought by a P4...
  5. We aren't getting rid of any coach after Year 2. We are not A$M. Even Benford got 5 years. We had to wait until after year 4 was over before we could afford to cut Littrell loose. Plus now we will be paying players too.

Agree. Our women's basketball team last year was ranked second to last in AAC preseason rankings. We finished Conference tied for the Championship. Player changes and coaching adjustments cannot be predicted toward record.
  7. I didn't hear the context of his statement; only what was posted by NM Green. He simply could have been trying to state that a sequence of improvement normally happens? NM Green stated "he mentioned that at WSU they really got clicking in year 3. Year 2 was an improvement and year three they were competing for the Pac 12 title." Here is WSU's season and conference records... https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/washington-state/index.html
  8. He must have been referring to WSU 2014-2016 seasons, but he wasn’t there then. He was receivers coach there in 2012 and OC in 2022. Neither were great conference years.
  9. I totally understand. After our thrashing by that NFL team Cal last year, and again at FIU, I thought winless was a possibility. But adjustments were made, although limited on defense because of lack of talent and the scheme we were using. Still, we finished 5-7 with last minute losses to Memphis, Tulane and Navy. I expect more adjustments from over the offseason. I believe we'll finish better, if we stay healthy.
  10. If the DC salary is such we couldn’t afford to fire him (if Morris wanted him gone, doubt it) then that is on whoever negotiated it as a 2-year deal to begin with. It’s also on fans and the AD for not giving/getting enough funds to make needed adjustments. A$M gave Jimbo $80 mil to be gone. That’s crazy, but that’s how crazy their donors and supporters are.
  11. Ticket sales increase when there is something for fans to be excited about: Better opponents, something to play for like championship or rivalry, team doing well (wins), nice weather. Things that don't help sales: Massive player turnover, inconsistent team performance (losses), FCS home opponents, bad weather Additional attendance issues: Must find ways to entice Greeks, general students, Denton locals, parents of students, more alums, UNT-branch students, TWU students... Overall: Better advertising, more marketing, and communication from the AD's office must be improved.
  12. More smoke about OSU and WSU possibly joining the Big12 in a graduated entrance, deferred media revenue, and paying costs of travel for distant conference schools...
  13. Thanks for that report. Did any other QB's play and how did they look? Other overall team impressions? Kickers? Are we bigger?

We have 70 new players this season. It's just a guess about any team in G5 how they compare.
  15. USA in SBC coach's preseason poll is 5th in the west division... https://sunbeltsports.org/news/2024/7/21/sun-belt-announces-football-preseason-awards-poll.aspx
  16. Since Mason played with Saskatchewan he may not have known much about him.
  17. The NCAA increased the application fee for transitioning from FCS to FBS from $5,000 to $5 million (effective immediately).Oct 5, 2023
  18. Morris did say in the first camp video that the team needed to get bigger overall and it was a goal for all the coaches in offseason recruiting. He said they look bigger now as a team. A "big" positive!
  19. What is your fanbase's opinion on the MWC/Pac-2 future? Reverse merger or will OSU and WSU try and pick apart the MWC?
  20. It shows that the Portal is not always to a better destination.
  21. Temple journalist having similar feelings about NIL... "What you have now in men’s college football and basketball is the Power 5 starting at the 40-yard-line, while the Group of Five is way back at the goal line and that’s not fair. The guy holding the starter’s pistol doesn’t seem to notice or looks the other way. What used to be a major infraction in the NCAA (see SMU football death penalty, 1987) is now accepted practice. We won’t see it change unless the Power 5 itself notices..." "How many JUCO-dominated Temple teams will be able to compete with million-dollar transfer portal guys? None. So if Temple is caught in a downward spiral of perpetual 3-9 seasons, count me out. Maybe the best hope for Temple is to get with a similar G5 group and get out of the business of trying to compete with the P5 for things like playoff spots. When the first question a recruit asks is how big is that bag of cash, that’s not quite why college sports was created in the first place so there should be no tears shed if they come to an end eventually at a lot of schools. I won’t hold my breath waiting for a rich Temple benefactor to save the Owls nor should I be expected to." https://templefootballforever.com/2024/01/29/nil-and-transfer-portal-a-matter-of-right-and-wrong/
  22. Sounds like City of Denton politics to include TWU and Denton ISD. We always have the TWU-anchor around us trying to get Denton to be a real college town and value our Athletics. There could be up to 11 teams trying to get court time at that event... "TWU’s NCAA Division II national runner-up basketball team as well as Denton ISD will also participate in the event."
  23. Does this board seem dead? 10-15 usual posters remain, but even visits from Harry and the moderators are few. This time of year GMG should be jumping with enthusiasm for the upcoming football, basketball, and soccer seasons. Yet, now it's mostly crickets. NT Athletics does only the minimum to remind us they still remember us, but nothing to show they actually want and need us! Has realignment, the loss of natural rivals, NIL, the NCAA, and the athletes themselves killed off the fans? Asking for a friend....
  24. Hey, we expect more than this from our trolls. If you guys can't play the position correctly then we suggest you hit the portal and we will get better trolls!
