Dartmouth hoops could vote to become first labor union for NCAA athletes
NT80 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
This is all a slippery slope. Now they want to go back to defined commitment letters or contracts for periods of time to the school, lol. Not all athletes in all sports warrant NIL contracts....unless you deem the scholarship a financial contract (which it is). -
Yes, he was very good for Athletics. Dr. Pohl and President "Jitter" Nolen were other school Presidents that were also very supportive and forward thinking as far as Athletics in the past 50 years. It makes a BIG difference if the school Prez supports Athletics or not. Let's hope the next President checks that box too!

Calling This Before I Can Say "I Told You So"
NT80 replied to rojomojo's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It’s crazy to limit this team to only 6 or 8 useable players. We can carry up to 15 on the roster. If the bench guys are not worthy then replace them with new recruits. -
Sending Volleyball, etc to California and up and down the East coast won't be easy on students or fans. Oh wait, no fans....just hard on the students.

We should be focused on recruiting the portal over HS. Players can't portal out again until they graduate. As soon as a HS recruit in our program player shows potential he's offered $ by larger programs. The way for us to retain players is kill the portal opt-out by recruiting more mature, college-experienced transfers from the beginning.

20-year-olds don't think the world existed before them. They don't want to be told about it.

Labor board regional official clears way for Dartmouth hoops union "Unionizing would allow the players to negotiate over not only salary but working conditions, including practice hours and travel.' Half of the ACC wants out of that conference to try and join the Big10 or SEC. If Florida State ever finds the key to escape then the ACC won't be what they are today.

When a defense ranks near the bottom of the entire FBS, major changes needed to be made, both in players and coaches. It was a disaster from game one to the end of season. Not making a DC change or adding 3x the amount of defensive players just says history will repeat itself again...

This is the problem the Portal and NIL has created. Constant roster makeover. Players leave if they are not starters instead of working their way up the depth chart. It's the want-it-now society.

Big Ten, SEC form advisory group as conferences' bond tightens The move is significant because it reflects a growing relationship between the two largest and wealthiest conferences and their respective commissioners as the balance of power continues to tilt in their favor in the evolving collegiate landscape. Sources have told ESPN that Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey have been working closely together -- more than their predecessors had -- at a time when conference expansion has further separated their leagues from the other FBS conferences. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/39444847/big-ten-sec-form-advisory-group-conferences-bond-tightens

It’s not the normal strategy in any sport.

Here’s another example… Oklahoma City residents support OU in Norman. Dallas residents don’t support $mut in Park Cities. And not even talking about geography, their whole theme of wearing “Dallas” jerseys is laughable by context of lack of support and fans from Dallas as a whole. It’s total false advertising on several levels!

Other sports have good backups too… but there is a reason they are backups and not starters. Basketball is no different, unless a coach tries to make it different. But it’s certainly not the way a majority of the coaches do it. There is a label for thirteenth player on a basketball team too. = bench warmer.

Not sure what games you're watching. The strategy is no different from football or soccer or any team sport playing the best players (starters) from the beginning of the game. You don't sit Tom Brady, Luka, or Messi till the second quarter to bring them into the game.
-
I think leading FAU for 95% of the game, in their arena, losing by 3, without one of our starters, shows we are closer to them than 27 to 69.
-
Sure, you want a good group on the floor to finish out a close game. But that's not as important if it's not a close game. The start of the game, in my opinion, is the most important of the game. It sets the tone of the game! You can put doubt into your opponent, sometimes even takes them out of their game plan early if you build a significant enough advantage. The starters should be your best players.

I expected Ross to continue to be the master of defense. The question was always where would our offense come from since we only returned like 20% of our scoring from last year. It was also going to be interesting melding all the new players with the existing ones to mesh a capable squad. Injuries are never calculated into rotations, thus the reason backups should be developed early on in a season. I'd say we have some winnable losses with some tough, close wins too this year. If we get everyone healthy we could have a really good finish to the season!

Top 10 Super Pit Crowds of All Time per Zac Babb
NT80 replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The biggest difference was no internet, no fan message boards, no ESPN, and no live video streaming of every game. Your choices to learn about an NT game live was to listen on radio or attend in person. Otherwise you had to wait until the next day to read the scores in the newspaper. -
I'd rather have six 10-pt scorers than two 20-pt scorers. More scorers means less chance that an off-game from a high-output scorer affects the game outcome.
-
Allen played 30 minutes off the bench and scored 15 points. Sissoko started and played 10 minutes and scored 0 points. Sissoko got some good defensive rebounds early, but I don't understand the role play of more effective players coming off the bench? Grant did that too with Perry. Don't you want your best players on the floor together for the most minutes?
-
Allen should be starting.

Big thought, looking ahead after the FAU loss
NT80 replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We had the lead the majority of the game @FAU. We get them again in Denton and I expect a vastly different result, especially if Rubin is back and we are at full strength. But to your point, yes, Dickies should easily be a home court advantage for us with fans there! Notice how they curtained off the upper levels there too, lol. That photo of 10 $mut fans at a tournament game 30 miles away is priceless! -
Preseason Poll had both teams at like #12 & 13, lol
