  1. It makes no sense for the state to financially support two competing state universities in the same town. I think you'll see, as funding becomes tighter, that duplication of university departments 3 miles across town are a waste. I understand no TWU alum wants to lose it's school's identity, but the reality is that a "women's" university is outdated and the faculty and facilities could become part of something so much greater than it is now. A merger would no-doubt create the third flagship university in the state. The combined campuses could easily hold 50,000 students and re-assigned buildings could bring specialization that does not currently exist.
  2. Welcome to the board! NT has a very good club baseball team, but has not had varsity baseball since it's Southland Conference days (it was a conference requirement to have baseball back then). The SBC is an excellent baseball conference and I too would someday like to see varsity baseball again. I think $$, facilities, and Title IX will keep it from happeneing anytime soon. It's very expensive to build a field then you'd have to balance it with another women's sport to meet Title IX requirements. Women's softball will be added next in 2004 as a varsity sport to help equal out schlorships for Title IX for the sports we already have. I think the requirement for total number of men's "team" sports was not included in the new 1-A criteria like it was orginally suggested; that would have caused NT to need to add another men's team sport (possibly baseball).
  3. GE&H, you need to come back and visit the campus for homecoming, it's had alot of change. The Ave. D exit off I-35 (newly named North Texas Blvd.) now curves north by the Fouts parking lot. That whole area with a new entryway sign, the new Performance Hall, Gateway Center, and Superpit is really very nice. The only eyesore left there is Fouts (hope soon it'll be modernized too!!). I think the current administration is placing more emphasis on landscaping and greenspaces, they've cleaned up many areas and have plans for more.
  4. #1 - A NEW Football Stadium along I-35. 200,000+ people a day would pass by it and say "Wow"! #2 - More greenspace and more landscaping for the UNT campus. Many people's first impressions of a school are made within the first block of the campus. # 3 - Goldplate the dome on the Admin. Building. Someone tried to make it look like faded copper, but it's looks instead like light green, faded paint.
  5. Iowa finished middle-of-the-pack in several CC meets last year but finished 11th in the Big10 meet.
  6. Here is her bio from the University of Iowa site.... Univ. of Iowa women's cross country
  7. From FWST: TCU schedule closer to final The 2002-03 TCU men's basketball schedule won't be released for another two weeks, but it is starting to take shape. In Conference USA action, the Frogs will host Cincinnati and Marquette, and TCU will travel to Louisville and Charlotte. Nonconference games include trips to Baylor, Tulsa, North Texas and Virginia Commonwealth, and a home game against Texas Tech. The Frogs began practice Wednesday night and will have their final practice at TCU on Aug. 10 before leaving for Australia on Aug. 11.
  8. I heard we may not have TCU at home either....seems like word on the street is be weary of JJ's boys, not the easy win it used to be!
  9. Re-try the link again, it's not coming up. But thanks anyway for the intent. Q: For a 6:00 pm kickoff, what time does the tailgating hit it's highpoint and when should we head for the stadium seats?
  10. I had lunch with Chuck today, and am proud to say I'm now a President's Council member. It's now easy to upgrade your Mean Green Club membership level and have it count towards a PC level. Call Chuck to ask about lunch and all the answers and info you can ask about UNT athletics, Capital Campaigns, facilities, etc. Chuck Vinson, UNT Office of Development, Metro (817) 267-0851.
