I like the running and gunning part. It sounds like the players are excited about it too.

North Texas One Win Away From The NCAA Tournament After 3-0 Victory Over Denver Release: 11/04/2004 Freshman forward Heather Hutyra scored her sixth goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Denver MIAMI, Fla. (11/4/04) – In dominating fashion the North Texas women’s soccer team defeated the Denver Pioneers 3-0 to advance to the Sun Belt Conference Championship game for the fifth consecutive year. The Mean Green (15-5-1) will face the fourth-seeded Florida International Golden Panthers (7-11-1) on Saturday at Noon with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. “Denver has always been a thorn in our side, so obviously it feels good,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “They are just a really good program, and we knew it would take a complete effort to beat them. It’s just hard to single out a player because everybody just played phenomenal.” Senior Alyssa Carrier started the scoring off for North Texas in the 29th minute with her fifth goal of the season. Carrier beat Pioneer’s goalkeeper Danielle Wiley off a rebound after having her initial shot stopped. North Texas maintained a 1-0 lead at the half after out shooting the Pioneers 12-4 in the first half. The Mean Green then proceeded to seized control of the game for good in the first three minutes of the second half. Freshman forward Heather Hutyra scored her sixth goal of the season from 10 yards out in the 46th minute of play to make it 2-0. Senior Melinda Pina followed up with her 10th goal of the season just 90 seconds later on a breakaway to give North Texas a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute of play. Junior goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made four saves and set a new single-season school record for shutouts as she notched her ninth of the year The win by North Texas, its 15th of the year, ties the single-season school record for wins set in 2000 and 2003. North Texas advances to face FIU in the SBC Championship game which will be a rematch of the 2000 title game that saw FIU win 3-1. The Mean Green has never won the SBC Tournament Championship and are looking to advance to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. North Texas has won the only meeting this season with FIU, a 1-0 win last Sunday at home, but the Golden Panthers are the host team and have not lost at home this season.

U-G-L-Y !! ........................................................................................................... DENTON (11/3/04) - The Houston Jaguars used a 23-4 run to start off the second half and went on to a 83-62 win against North Texas in the Mean Green’s first exhibition game of the season on Wednesday night in the Super Pit. "We were disappointed because we had played much better in practice," said head coach Tina Slinker. "However, it also showed we had some jitters tonight. I think we have some inexperience, and we also have some new players, but we can’t use that for very long this year." Five players scored in double figures for the Jaguars, who shot 55 percent from the field. Sophomore Kelsie Edwards led the Mean Green with 18 points and six rebounds. Freshman Erica Howard pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. The Jaguars started the game with a 7-0 run and did not look back the rest of the way. The Mean Green stayed within single digits of the lead throughout the first half before the Jaguars got hot in the second half. The Mean Green’s second exhibition game is on Wednesday, Nov. 10 against the Oklahoma Flyers at 7 p.m. in the Super Pit.

"Cameron, which finished 6-21 overall last season, is led by 6-5 senior forward Marcus Girtmon. The Dallas, Texas, native finished among the Lone Star Conference scoring leaders with 13.6 points per game last season, earning honorable mention honors in the LSC North Division. The Aggies are scheduled to open the 2004-05 regular season on Nov. 19 against Abilene Christian University." Interesting that after playing UNT, Cameron will face OU and Tulsa. We can get an idea of how we compare against a common opponent. Cameron basketball schedule Cameron roster

The 65-0 loss to UT to start this season, along with losses to FAU, Colo., and Baylor sucked the life out of our casual fan base this year. The 10K there last night were the faithful base. The maybe-fans saw the weather radar and stayed home and watched it on TV. The 16K fans for the 1988 NT/ULM game were there because we had already beaten Texas Tech, ASU, E. Wash, and had refs give the game to Texas. We were 3-1 and even the casual fans were riding high. A loss of 6,000 fans from that OOC record to this years is really not that bad. Bad OOC + rain + local TV + SBC opponent + no marketing = 10,800 fans

Date Posted: 11:18:00 10/17/04 Sun Author: Buford_Julep Subject: 1st BB Practice All 12 scholarship players were present and ready to play. No one was wearing knee braces or was heavily taped up. The stationary bike was out of sight. No walk-ons were out there Saturday. Of course there will probably be changes, but for the record, wearing green jerseys (first Team) were Justin Barnett, Ron Harris, Calvin Watson, Len Hopkins and Isaac Hines. Players working at more than one position Saturday were: Quincy Williams C and PF, Mike Jones PF and W, and Mike Sturns G and 3rd string PG. Observations and opinions: Harris is still the quickest big man on the team. Barnett looked good while setting screens and passing, but missed a dunk and had several of his shots blocked. Bad and good news on Quincy Williams: He has not grown 3 inches as reported on the go Mean Green board. He looks to be about 6'7. The good news is he is not skinny. He looks very well developed in the chest and arms. Quincy is a very strong and physical player who is quick and runs the court well. I predict he will see lots of playing time.

Texas Loses To OU Again...
NT80 replied to JayDub's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I wanted both teams to lose. How wierd was it to see former Nebraska coach Tom Solich sitting in that crowd. Fired after a 9-3 year? -

How bad does that make Southern? SHSU beat Southern last week 23-2. I thought it was a football score when I saw it.
