True. But you can't motivate people by waiting for them to become motivated on their own.

Nothing new here really about other facilities that wasn't previously known. What I'd like to see is an updated timeline on everything and a REAL fundraising update and specific drive for each venue. Of course that would take supporters that have confidence in the direction of the programs and I think there needs to be some discussion about that too. Too many secrets.

Yes, they were much better than us but only 8-5. Previous records: 2005: 8-5 2004: 0-11 2003: 3-9 2002: 7-5

I'm waiting for the briefs and boxers to come out next.

The Atlantic Sun is not exactly loaded with known basketball powerhouses, then neither is the SunBelt: Lipscomb Belmont Florida Atlantic Gardner-Webb ETSU Stetson Kennesaw State Campbell Mercer North Florida Jacksonville

Agree, Memphis would be a Big East first choice, good travel partner with Louisville. Memphis also has good football and basketball teams and facilities, and could bring the Liberty Bowl. UCF has good location, but lousy football and basketball. Marshall likewise has bad basketball and is in Hicksville.

OU has played at Tulsa a couple times. It's mainly to accomodate the OU-alums in Tulsa. Although their stadium looks Fouts-ish I believe it can hold 40,000, 25K of which will be Sooner fans. And why did we turn down a home game with BYU again??

I'll take it, where do we sign?

Sunday, February 19, 2006 (2/19) Report: TU and OU agree to series Oklahoma-Tulsa agree to series: Daily Oklahoman via NewsOK.com reports: Oklahoma and Tulsa have verbally agreed on a three-game football series, OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said Saturday. OU will play at Tulsa's Skelly Stadium in 2007. Tulsa will play at Owen Field in 2009 and 2011. The contract has not been officially announced, but OU's 2007 schedule also includes home games with Miami and North Texas.

FW*Telegram spring game notes. questions on QB
NT80 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Was he the color commentator on the telecast? How was the picture quality on it? They had a general PA announcer at Fouts, not for all the plays and it seemed like they kept a running clock most of the time. -
Woody would work well as a Ja'Mel Branch type player, use his speed and running ability other than as QB. But doubt we'll see that change, DD wants more than one QB available.

Phillips could have had over 400 yards passing if 2-3 long balls weren't tipped away at the last second. He reminds me a little of Scott Hall. I'd start Phillips with Wilson in for a change of pace as it sounds like Dickey plans to do to start the season although I hate rotating QBs. WW still runs too much up the middle; he gains yards but is too open for big hits from a LB.

Offseason Blues or just been through too many battles in this Army? Others have already given up the good fight when they saw no signs of light or life. I'm not getting any younger either and I'm tired of guessing about the direction this wagon is heading. Either we want to be a 1-A program and work to act and look like it or we just can't. If we can't afford it yet but we want to do something about it then that needs to be expressed too; soon before we lose many more longtime fans. I see some positive signs of progress in facilities and rumors of other conferences watching us then I see signs of total collapse in some sports, a non-focus against our main moveup competition, and a constant spin on it all. A lack-of-hunger, as one player put it, concerns me. The rewarding of continuity based solely on seniority concerns me also as a financial supporter. Banter about further delays in football stadium priority only highlights if there is indeed a real goal or timeline or just more talk. The seemless futility of it all wears a fan down to the point of surrender and a change in one's time and financial priorities. I'm looking for answers but they're not easy to find these days; too many Chiefs not enough Indians. If you read between the lines of things going on at UNT it's not all good I fear.

Then that would also kill any hopes of a real 1-A conference too. He doesn't want us getting too close to his SMUt's level.

A little Spin? The women lost in the quarterfinals but the men dropped their opening game.?. The womens quarterfinals were their "opening game" also! -
"The New Stanford Stadium project renovation is estimated to cost $90 million." We could build two (2) brand NEW stadiums that we want for that cost. BTW, anyone heard anything about our new stadium plans recently? 2009 is getting closer!

2005-06 was a lousy year for Mean Green sports overall. I still look for hope for improvement with the new facilities at Eagle Point, but even some of the momentum there seems to have slowed. Little info about construction anymore or any future football stadium plans. Where's all the future excitement about growth and CUSA gone?

My eating plans just changed for that day. It would be nice to see these two events combined some year (say the scrimmage start at 7:30pm and some advertising about it put in the Coliseum (huh?!?). The President's Council also has a function at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field that night. I wish everyone would coordinate on their calendars! ...................................................................................................... Mark the calendar. The Denton Kiwanis Club is planning the 17th annual Taste of North Texas for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 9 at the University of North Texas Coliseum. Tickets cost $8 for youths, ages 6 to 17, and $12 for adults, and are available at a number of locations, including the Denton Chamber of Commerce, Wells Fargo Bank, First State Bank, Northstar Bank, Texas Bank and the Denton Bicycle Center. .......................................................................................................

Phillips got my vote Saturday and overall moved the team the best. But I liked Scott Wissle last year too.

Artist drawings of MUTS proposed baseball venue

I drove by it for the first time yesterday and it didn't look as bad as it appears in the pics. They are still working on the dirt for the infield/outfield. The light poles are up but no fences in yet. I agree a bricked exterior would look much better and perhaps they could add that later to both the pressbox and bleachers? -
I'm sure others will have more in-depth reviews as I only saw the first 2 hours until 11:30am then had to leave. They rotated QBs in order usually after drives or 10-15 plays and with different offenses/defenses. I'll rank the QBs as 1. Phillips, 2. Wilson, 3. Meager, 4. Ieans. Phillips seems the least mobile of the 4 (a more pro-style QB), although he never really had to run. He was sacked once on a slow-developing flea-flicker toss back to him but otherwise made smart decisions about when to throw. He was the most accurate passer today, leading the team to at least 3 TDs, including short, medium, and long passes. He seemed very confident in his play and looked the part. Wilson displayed some nice passes too. He also likes to run as previously mentioned, up the middle, and usually for nice 8-10 yard pickups. I too agree he needs to take it outside out-of-bounds sometimes before he gets wrecked. Athletic QB, fluid runner. Meager made some nice plays then would ground a couple. You can tell he's comfortable playing from last season's experience but he is still inconsistant. I don't recall any deep balls from him but he did have a short pass intercepted and returned for a long distance. He also ran down a guy on a pick and displayed good speed. They gave Ieans more plays than I thought they would. He also made a couple plays and took a nasty shot running with the ball but bounced back up after a couple minutes. He keeps trying but it just isn't coming easy for him. J-Mo was cold/hot. He would get stuffed for 2-3 plays of little gain then bust a 40-yarder. Deavin Cox seemed to be tried as the #2 back and scored at least once. He took some pounding too with up the gut runs and looked like he turned his ankle at one point. I'd like to see a bigger FB given it for short yardage middle runs. Not much FB play today. James Mitchell scored at least once too and had some very nice runs. J. Quinn was a standout today. At least 2 TDs and many other catches. A pleasure to watch out there. Muzzy tried hard but dropped several; more glue needed. Placekicking is still a major concern to me. Many low kicks, short kickoffs (although some were intentional), blocks/misses on PATs and FGs. I'm worried here in close games. I did not see any major injuries, all bounced up eventually. The SBC was trying out some new refs and a scout was watching and grading them. It will be interesting to see how they divide the team for the green/white game.

True. They could switch the spring game to a Saturday, like tomorrow then just a scrimmage on the last day Thursday. Many 1-A schools make a big deal about their spring game and promote the upcoming season and start selling tickets and merchandise. Our spring game is attended only by player's parents, player's girlfriends, GMG.com readers, or joggers that just wander into Fouts.

Tomorrow is a Saturday. Still, no marketing or any reference to any spring football event.

BIG opportunity missed to gain some Mean Green fans. We must have enough?
