Reynolds Center. The contest was the final exhibition game before the regular season begins next Tuesday for the Hurricane. Seneca Collins added 16 points for the Hurricane, including 11 first-half points. Jarius Glenn and Charles Ramsdell each chipped in with 10 points apiece. Price connected on 9-of-15 from the field for the game. Tulsa outscored Cameron 44 to 21 in the second half and shot 60-percent from the field. The Hurricane went on an 10-0 run in the first three minutes of the second half, and built its lead to 38 points at 82-44. Tulsa used some hot shooting in the first-half as well to hold a 38-28 point lead at halftime. The Hurricane shot 55-percent in the opening half, while holding Cameron to 35-percent shooting from the field. In the first half, the pesky Aggies kept it close as the biggest Tulsa lead was 13 points. Eighteen of Tulsa's 38-first-half points came in the paint. Tulsa's leading first-half scorer Seneca Collins scored three of his five field goals from the perimeter. Tulsa now is now 43-2 in exhibition games since the 1969-70 season. NCAA basketball season tips off with Coaches vs. Cancer November 11, 2004 BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - The Syracuse Orange will play on the opening night of the season. They have expectations of also playing in the season's final game. The NCAA tips off its basketball season Thursday with three top 25 teams playing in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim starts his 29th season at his alma mater against Northern Colorado, a school beginning its second year in Division I. For the first time since the 1982-83 season, the sixth-ranked Orange bring back their entire starting lineup, which includes senior forward Hakim Warrick and junior guard Gerry McNamara - both Big East preseason All-Conference selections. Warrick, a first-team Big East performer last season and one of the top players in the country, averaged 19.8 and 8.6 rebounds per game last season. McNamara - who scored over 17 per game - set a school record with 105 3-pointers, averaged just under four assists and shot a team-best 87.2 percent from the line. Two other Top 25 teams trying to build on recent success will be in action Thursday. With its second Top 25 preseason ranking in the last three years, No. 14 Mississippi State opens its season against Fairfield. The Bulldogs, who won their first outright Southeastern Conference title since 1962-63 last season, return 11 lettermen and three starters to a squad that finished 2003-04 at No. 13. Mississippi State will be without reigning SEC Player of the Year Lawrence Roberts, who is serving a one-game NCAA-mandated suspension for accepting expenses for a pre-NBA draft workout. Roberts, a senior who averaged 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds last season, also is recovering from surgery to repair a broken nose suffered last week in practice. With a new facility and four returning starters, No. 23 Memphis tips off its season when it hosts Savannah State. After playing the past 13 years in the Pyramid, the Tigers are sharing the FedExForum with the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis coach John Calipari is hoping the facility and its plush accommodations will help the Tigers build on their four straight postseason appearances, including two straight trips to the NCAA tournament. The Tigers are led by sensational sophomore forward Sean Banks, the Conference USA Freshman of the Year in 2003-04 after averaging 17.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The Coaches vs. Cancer Classic features a new look this season with 16 teams competing at four regional sites. The winners at each site will advance to play in the semifinal and championship rounds at New York's Madison Square Garden on November 18-19.

OU Wins Exhibition Over Cameron, 91-56 Courtesy: SoonerSports.com Release: 11/10/2004 Kevin Bookout NORMAN, Okla. -- Kevin Bookout is back. Bookout scored 19 points as the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Cameron Aggies 91-56 inside the Lloyd Noble Center in exhibition action Wednesday night. “It was a first game. We need to get a lot better,” head coach Kelvin Sampson said. “Cameron played real hard. It’s a great opportunity for both schools to get out and play hard.” Bookout led the Sooners in scoring, shooting 9-of-12 from the field, and rebounding, with 10, reminding the Sooner faithful how sorely he was missed. “It was good to see him back,” Sampson said. “It’s the first time we’ve seen him healthy since last year when he got hurt. He’s such a smart player and epitomizes what every college basketball player should be.” Bookout, who started the first 13 games last year before season-ending shoulder surgery, showed little rust, if any, as he dominated the low post. The junior forward scored 14 by the half as the Sooners picked up 28 points in the paint before the break. “He’ll get more fluid with the game and improve even more,” Sampson continued. “He’s already improved a lot on his step out and short jumper.” Cameron fought back in the second half, going on a 17-6 run through the first six minutes that pulled them within 11. However, the Sooners, sparked by a pair of Jaison Williams 3-pointers, ended the game outscoring the Aggies 36-12. Williams was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, scoring a total of 14 points. The Aggies’ opportunities were limited by the Sooners’ defense. Cameron made 32 turnovers, accounting for 37 OU points. The Sooners also registered 18 steals. Cameron’s Arthur Trousdell and Bam Harmon accounted for half of the Aggies’ 56 points, scoring 18 and 10, respectively. Sophomore guard Drew Lavender scored 18 points and was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc as the Sooners had four players in double figures. The new-look Sooners, who finished their final game last year with just seven players available, introduced several new faces to the home crowd. Taj Gray, a 6-9 junior transfer from Redlands (Okla.) Community College, started at forward and saw 16 minutes of action, mostly in the first half. Gray finished the game with six points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals. “Taj Gray had a good game as well,” Sampson said. “The thing about him is that he’s going to get better and better. Out there tonight he was thinking about everything. As the season goes on, it will become more automatic.” Fellow junior transfer Terrell Everett, from Southwest Missouri State-West Plains, started at guard and played 32 minutes, the most by a Sooner, scoring 10 points and making four steals. Freshmen David Godbold and Longar Longar came off the bench. Considered redshirt candidates prior to the game, both saw most of their action in the second half as they each logged 13 minutes. Godbold was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and made three steals. “There was a lot of speculation if (Longar) was going to redshirt or not,” Sampson said. “There was no way that I could redshirt him. He’s just too good.” Redshirt freshman Kellen Sampson, son of OU’s head coach, also made his first appearance as a Sooner. Kellen saw action in the final two minutes and connected on his only two shots from the free throw line to a rousing ovation from the crowd. The Sooners have won 32 of their last 34 exhibition games and improved to 19-2 under Coach Sampson. “We will play better Saturday,” Sampson said. “I’m anxious to see how we respond in practice the next two days.” Oklahoma’s next action is against the UCO Bronchos in another exhibition game this Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Lloyd Noble Center.

North Texas holds off Aggies in exhibition DENTON, Texas (Nov. 6) - Newcomer Arthur Trousdell poured in 22 points and senior Marcus Girtmon added 13 as the Cameron men's basketball team put up a good fight in exhibition action Saturday against Division I North Texas. But the Mean Green full-court press forced 32 Aggie turnovers and Cameron shot just 32.8 percent from the field, falling 91-67 at UNT's Super Pit. Saturday's contest was the first of three exhibition games in six days against Division I opponents scheduled for the Aggies. Cameron will travel to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesay, Nov. 10, before continuing on to play at the University of Tulsa the very next night. Tickets for the Cameron-OU contest are available for $10 each in the Cameron Athletic Department offices, located on the fifth floor of South Shepler Tower on the Cameron campus. Trousdell and Girtmon were the only Aggie players to score in double figures against North Texas. Trousdell, a 6-8 junior transfer from Southwest Baptist University, was 9-of-12 from the floor, including a perfect 6-of-6 in the first half, and led the Aggies with nine rebounds. Girtmon did most of his scoring at the free throw line, where he was 9-of-11 on the night. Cameron's starting five of Girtmon and Trousdell, along with newcomers Sean Ormsby, Bam Harmon and Eric Moore, outscored UNT's starting five, 55-40. Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies appeared to be headed for an exciting contest midway through the first half, building a four-point lead on a Kalaan Brown bucket with 10:06 remaining in the period. UNT regained the lead with a 9-3 run, but a three-pointer by Ormsby with 4:34 left in the half cut the lead to just 28-26. But the Mean Green finished the opening period with a 17-6 run to make it 46-32 at intermission. UNT led by as many as 25 in the second half, capitalizing on 17 second-half turnovers by the Aggies to take control. Cameron finished the game with a 49-47 rebounding edge over the host team, but trailed 33-13 in points off turnovers.

North Texas One Win Away From The NCAA Tournament After 3-0 Victory Over Denver Release: 11/04/2004 Freshman forward Heather Hutyra scored her sixth goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Denver MIAMI, Fla. (11/4/04) – In dominating fashion the North Texas women’s soccer team defeated the Denver Pioneers 3-0 to advance to the Sun Belt Conference Championship game for the fifth consecutive year. The Mean Green (15-5-1) will face the fourth-seeded Florida International Golden Panthers (7-11-1) on Saturday at Noon with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. “Denver has always been a thorn in our side, so obviously it feels good,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “They are just a really good program, and we knew it would take a complete effort to beat them. It’s just hard to single out a player because everybody just played phenomenal.” Senior Alyssa Carrier started the scoring off for North Texas in the 29th minute with her fifth goal of the season. Carrier beat Pioneer’s goalkeeper Danielle Wiley off a rebound after having her initial shot stopped. North Texas maintained a 1-0 lead at the half after out shooting the Pioneers 12-4 in the first half. The Mean Green then proceeded to seized control of the game for good in the first three minutes of the second half. Freshman forward Heather Hutyra scored her sixth goal of the season from 10 yards out in the 46th minute of play to make it 2-0. Senior Melinda Pina followed up with her 10th goal of the season just 90 seconds later on a breakaway to give North Texas a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute of play. Junior goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made four saves and set a new single-season school record for shutouts as she notched her ninth of the year The win by North Texas, its 15th of the year, ties the single-season school record for wins set in 2000 and 2003. North Texas advances to face FIU in the SBC Championship game which will be a rematch of the 2000 title game that saw FIU win 3-1. The Mean Green has never won the SBC Tournament Championship and are looking to advance to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. North Texas has won the only meeting this season with FIU, a 1-0 win last Sunday at home, but the Golden Panthers are the host team and have not lost at home this season.

U-G-L-Y !! ........................................................................................................... DENTON (11/3/04) - The Houston Jaguars used a 23-4 run to start off the second half and went on to a 83-62 win against North Texas in the Mean Green’s first exhibition game of the season on Wednesday night in the Super Pit. "We were disappointed because we had played much better in practice," said head coach Tina Slinker. "However, it also showed we had some jitters tonight. I think we have some inexperience, and we also have some new players, but we can’t use that for very long this year." Five players scored in double figures for the Jaguars, who shot 55 percent from the field. Sophomore Kelsie Edwards led the Mean Green with 18 points and six rebounds. Freshman Erica Howard pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. The Jaguars started the game with a 7-0 run and did not look back the rest of the way. The Mean Green stayed within single digits of the lead throughout the first half before the Jaguars got hot in the second half. The Mean Green’s second exhibition game is on Wednesday, Nov. 10 against the Oklahoma Flyers at 7 p.m. in the Super Pit.

"Cameron, which finished 6-21 overall last season, is led by 6-5 senior forward Marcus Girtmon. The Dallas, Texas, native finished among the Lone Star Conference scoring leaders with 13.6 points per game last season, earning honorable mention honors in the LSC North Division. The Aggies are scheduled to open the 2004-05 regular season on Nov. 19 against Abilene Christian University." Interesting that after playing UNT, Cameron will face OU and Tulsa. We can get an idea of how we compare against a common opponent. Cameron basketball schedule Cameron roster

The 65-0 loss to UT to start this season, along with losses to FAU, Colo., and Baylor sucked the life out of our casual fan base this year. The 10K there last night were the faithful base. The maybe-fans saw the weather radar and stayed home and watched it on TV. The 16K fans for the 1988 NT/ULM game were there because we had already beaten Texas Tech, ASU, E. Wash, and had refs give the game to Texas. We were 3-1 and even the casual fans were riding high. A loss of 6,000 fans from that OOC record to this years is really not that bad. Bad OOC + rain + local TV + SBC opponent + no marketing = 10,800 fans

You are joking, right?

Date Posted: 11:18:00 10/17/04 Sun Author: Buford_Julep Subject: 1st BB Practice All 12 scholarship players were present and ready to play. No one was wearing knee braces or was heavily taped up. The stationary bike was out of sight. No walk-ons were out there Saturday. Of course there will probably be changes, but for the record, wearing green jerseys (first Team) were Justin Barnett, Ron Harris, Calvin Watson, Len Hopkins and Isaac Hines. Players working at more than one position Saturday were: Quincy Williams C and PF, Mike Jones PF and W, and Mike Sturns G and 3rd string PG. Observations and opinions: Harris is still the quickest big man on the team. Barnett looked good while setting screens and passing, but missed a dunk and had several of his shots blocked. Bad and good news on Quincy Williams: He has not grown 3 inches as reported on the go Mean Green board. He looks to be about 6'7. The good news is he is not skinny. He looks very well developed in the chest and arms. Quincy is a very strong and physical player who is quick and runs the court well. I predict he will see lots of playing time.

Texas Loses To OU Again...
NT80 replied to JayDub's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I wanted both teams to lose. How wierd was it to see former Nebraska coach Tom Solich sitting in that crowd. Fired after a 9-3 year? -

How bad does that make Southern? SHSU beat Southern last week 23-2. I thought it was a football score when I saw it.
