  1. Don't expect the "vibrant" shade this year. I've heard what they ordered with the time deadline will look very similar to last year's color, maybe a little lighter, but that's just thru the grapevine. Who knows?
  2. That's probably when Athletics gets the uniforms in from the supplier. I don't expect much of a change in the unis; perhaps a small Mean Green instead of North Texas on the jersey neck, a tweak in color, not as light as some are expecting, and a change in helmet font from script to the new lettering....I'd still prefer a bold "NT"! <_<
  3. They should be doing this on Campus with students and parents roaming around soon!
  4. I bet he would like to.
  5. I'll say Eagle Point, and Liberty Christian is a part of that. We were about a month away from starting work on making the Warehouse next to Fouts our new Athletic Department Complex and renovating Fouts to stay there forever. Then the Radisson call came and asked NT/Dr. Pohl if they wanted to purchase the lease back on the golf course. We did, and Dr. Pohl helped develop the major Athletic plans for it, made the Denia neighborhood accept it, and the rest is on it's way up!
  6. Dr. Pohl will be missed, he was a fan's kind of President. He was very easy to talk to, and would listen, and attended more athletic events than any other President I'd seen around NT. He seemed to have a good relationship with RV. I wish it was Lee Jackson leaving instead. <_<
  7. The article is about the 12th added game and how AF could renew it's rivalry with CU to fill it. I don't think it would affect our game. This would be a good game to have in our new stadium as it would bring a good crowd. Virginia was also rumored to be coming to Denton in 2009. Now that would be some home schedule!!
  8. Put me in for a $100 donation also. I appreciate the work you guys go to at the games with the setup, cooking and all. It does make a statement to fans that come to tailgating to see some serious 1-A smokers being used.
  9. Byerly was seen as a running threat simply because of his size...he would flat run over people when "forced" to run. There were not designed running plays for Byerly but improvised when he had to scrammble. I hear Meager has some speed and running ability if needed on an option play but just doesn't have Byerly's size to meet a LB head on. Meager is thought to be a more accurate passer, which in my opinion is what we need at that position to start with. We need to be able to establish a passing game. Running options for a qb are last in my mind in this offense.
  10. Four UNT players out for '05 Projected starter at quarterback among three who are ineligible 09:46 PM CDT on Saturday, July 16, 2005 By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle DENTON – Joey Byerly, a sophomore who was projected to start at quarterback for North Texas this fall, is among four players who will not play for the Mean Green in the 2005 season, coach Darrell Dickey said Saturday. Byerly, redshirt freshman lineman Micah West and junior fullback Chris Nevins will miss the season after failing to meet NCAA participation requirements, according to Dickey. The coach said that senior linebacker Montrell Parks has decided to give up football. "Joey, Micah and Chris have all informed me that their intention is to address their situation and return to the team as soon as possible," Dickey said. The loss of Byerly leaves UNT without a quarterback on its roster who has thrown a pass in a college game. Byerly spent last season as the primary backup to Scott Hall and was expected to compete with redshirt freshman Daniel Meager for the starting job in spring practice. Byerly took the majority of the snaps with the first-team offense after Meager injured his right shoulder during the early stages of spring workouts. Meager underwent minor surgery in March. Byerly completed nine of 24 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown in UNT's spring game. He threw for 73 yards on 12 attempts last season. Hall passed for 1,806 yards and 14 touchdowns while earning second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as a senior last season. Barring a late addition, the Mean Green will enter fall practice with six players listed as quarterbacks on its roster. Meager will join junior Cullen Mills, sophomore Jonathan Ieans, redshirt freshman Kellen Haynes and freshmen Steve Warren and Matt Phillips. Mills temporarily left the team during the off-season. West, Nevins, and Parks were projected to be backups this season. UNT has won the last four Sun Belt Conference titles and will enter the season with a 25-game conference winning streak.
  11. I'm sure Ieans would do fine at some position, just not qb. And if you saw spring practice then you'd note the same.
  12. Local business owners oppose Texas A&M game's move to Dallas By Jeremy Reynolds, University Daily July 15, 2005 (U-WIRE) LUBBOCK, Texas -- The announcement of a possible move to Dallas for the Texas Tech and Texas A&M football game could be more than six months away, but local business owners are making their voices heard now. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce conducted a survey of the business community, and its general feel of what a move from Lubbock, Texas, to Dallas for the game would entail for their businesses. Eddie McBride, president of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, said he received 448 responses. "It was an outstanding response," McBride said. "We got a 16 percent response rate." Of the 448 who responded, 40 percent took the time to write in comments. McBride said that it is uncommon to get even 10 percent to write comments. He said the initial reason for the survey was to get a feel of the community as well as gain information that can be presented to the athletic department so they can make a more informed decision. McBride said 90 percent of the business owners who answered the survey were opposed to the move, and 63 percent said home-game weekends have a positive impact on their business for the year. Nineteen businesses said the impact for them is more than $100,000. "I like to see games stay on the campus from a business and student perspective," McBride said. "All homes games are big games for the business community. There is a great relationship between Texas Tech and the city of Lubbock." McBride said that Tech students believe that the city does nothing for them and does not care about them one way or another. He said that that is not true and city does care about what happens on the Tech campus because what is good for Tech is good for the city, and what is good for the city is good for Tech. Christina Roe, manager at Chili's Bar and Grill, said home football games have a significant impact on her business. "We wouldn't get the extra business that we usually depend on in the past," Roe said. "I don't think it is fair to anyone." Troy Davidson, general manager for TGI Friday's restaurant, said he feels very strongly about the game staying in Lubbock. He said moving the game is bad for the economy and for the university. "We do about 30 percent more on the Tech A&M weekend," Davidson said. Jenny Altman, manager for the Outdoorsman, said she had heard about the possibility of the move and her store, which her parents own, does not want it to move. "Our store has been here for 25 years; it's a mom and pop store," Altman said. "Common sense tells us that many people come to Tech for home games and they come to shop. We get lots of parents coming in to buy clothes for the kiddos." Hotels such as the Howard Johnson Inn look forward to Tech home games and moving one could hurt their overall business. Jay Patel, general manager of the hotel, said his business would lose approximately $10,000 in business if the game were moved. "Hotels and restaurants are starving in October and November," he said. "Because there is no other business besides the Tech football games."
  13. 15 nay vs. 3 yea = not eligible The board has spoken
  14. LSD, er LSU, had a big change this off season getting a new head roach, er coach. It will not be a well-oiled National Champ team we play that first game.
  15. I get several credit card applications from the NT Exes every month, little if any other communication. <_
  16. here....another GMG.com thread about this
  17. Good to hear, thanks for the report.
  18. Doesn't that approach Fullback territory?
  19. I saw this article on the yahoo national sports ticker...good media for NT..... .................................................................................................................... More than one way to animation By RAY BUCK, Star-Telegram Staff Writer July 15, 2005 DENTON - Strictly hearsay turned to virtual reality for Jamario Thomas on Thursday. The University of North Texas running back caught his first glimpse of an EA Sports Web site promotion of the hottest, new video game to hit the racks this week: NCAA Football '06. The 14-second clip shows a 3-D animation of Thomas -- No. 20 for the Mean Green -- taking a pitchout, scampering left, then making a nifty cutback to beat a New Mexico State defender to the end zone. Touchdown! "It's fun to see. It gets your name out there, basically," said Thomas, who is unpretentious and exceedingly polite, right down to his "yes sirs" and "no sirs." The 20-year-old sophomore is EA Sports' running back "demo," created to show PlayStation and Xbox users how to set up so-called Impact Players for the game. It may seem like an unusual show of recognition for someone who doesn't play football at a BCS school. The quarterback demo for NCAA Football '06 uses a 3-D animation of UT's Vince Young, who runs a trademark keeper play on the instructional clip. But, on second thought, Thomas does deserve the honor. Or gesture. Or whatever you want to call it. He led the nation in rushing last season as a true freshman with a 189.9-yard average. NCAA Football '06, which debuted Tuesday and is expected to exceed last year's sales of more than 1.5 million copies, has added several new twists, including a way to improve the effectiveness of a player through workouts. His friends and family members call him to say, "Hey, I'm playing you right now. You got good speed, man!" Thomas tells them to have fun. Personally, he doesn't plan to buy NCAA Football '06. His favorite video games involve shooting and ducking, not juking and running. "I play football," Thomas said. "I really don't like sport video games that much." He prefers Halo 2, a combat-style video game in which powerful aliens threaten "the destruction of the human race," and must be stopped. Quite unlike the promo for NCAA Football '06, which reads: "You start out as a freshman nobody and build a career that will put you in place to be the next Heisman Trophy winner!" That already fits Thomas to a capital T in real life. Patrick Cobbs was supposed to be the Mean Green's workhorse runner last season. He was the 2003 NCAA rushing champion (152.7) as a junior. But a broken thumb and a sprained left knee in Week 2 ended Cobbs' 2004 season, so he used a medical redshirt to give himself another season of eligibility for '05. Unlike Thomas, Cobbs is a NCAA Football '06 diehard. Four hours at the controls are nothing. Each has been given a 90 rating for the new video game. Thomas holds an edge in speed, Cobbs an edge in awareness. Otherwise, they're considered even by the researchers at EA Sports. "I'm kind of surprised nothing got marked off me," Cobbs said. "I was a 90 last year. I'm a 90 this year. That makes me feel good." Thomas was a 79 entering his freshman season. As teammates, Thomas and Cobbs are close. As for their tastes in video games, they couldn't be more different. Thomas is strictly Xbox. Cobbs is PlayStation 2. Cobbs prefers NCAA Football '06 to everything else, including Madden NFL. He had his $49.99 ready to spend as soon as it hit the store shelves on Tuesday. Sure, he could have spent that same money on a season pass to Six Flags Over Texas, plus a light lunch. Or a mezzanine seat for any weekday performance of Godspell at Bass Hall. Or a club-box seat to a Rangers-Yankees game at Ameriquest Field next week, with just enough money left over for a hotdog and a soft drink. But NCAA Football '06 will give him 12 months of entertainment pleasure. "Fifty bucks. Definitely, it's worth it," Cobbs said. For the video game, he has created a player named Patrick Cobbs who plays wide receiver for Southern Cal. "Wide receiver," Cobbs explained, "because it's an easier skill to reach a high score while I'm getting used to the game." USC, of course, because the Trojans are vying for a third straight national championship. Thomas, who chose North Texas over Arizona State and Mississippi State, quickly came onto the real-life NCAA football scene out of Longview Springhill High School. He has added 23 pounds of muscle since last season. He said that being selected demo man for NCAA Football '06 "may help people realize that North Texas has a good football program, with good coaching. It's the system," Thomas said. Neither Thomas nor Cobbs expects any problems in sharing the workload at running back. "It's up to Patrick ... whatever he wants," said Thomas, the underclassman. "No matter how it works out, it'll be OK with me," said Cobbs. "We'll both have a lot more energy because of each other, and that will help us more than hurt us." Spoken like true teammates. Spoken like a pair of 90s.

    7 on 7?

SMUt will sneak an extra two players onto the field in an effort to be competitive, it will fail. The other team will leave the field....it still takes SMUt 5 plays to score.
  21. Old? It's not even official that anything has happened. I do think vested ticket holders should be informed if such an occurance has happened. Wouldn't Cowboy fans be concerned if rumors were Quincy wasn't going to be QB anymore?
  22. Fouts may outlive us.
  23. SFA recently signed a couple former UT players too. They may have a good 1-AA team soon.
  24. From M&G board...... Date Posted: Wed, July 13 2005, 16:32:21 Author: twodogs Subject: Re: If true.... In reply to: UNTLifer 's message, "Re: If true...." on Wed, July 13 2005, 9:36:57 According to my son, Zach Muzzy, Joey did not pass enough hours during the fall and spring semesters to even qualify for summer school. I mean he could enroll in summer school and take the classes but those hours can not be used to help in his eligibility. It is the new rule NCAA put in place last year. He is not working out with the guys this summer during 7 on 7 drills. I don't understand because from what Zach tells me they have plenty of resouces at their disposal to insure they pass their classes! It is just a matter of not giving a crap or thinking someone will clean up my mess for me! ............................................................. ............................................................. This makes too many reports to not think there is something to it. But why would coaches give Byerly the majority of reps in spring, and DD say he was happy with our roster qbs and wouldn't sign a JUCO qb, then name Joey the starter in May if they knew he was borderline with grades? How could they not know his class status during the semester, or is it a total secret until the last final is taken as to how a person is progressing? How does a player go from starter to can't participate in a 2 month period and nobody knew it was coming?
