Praying for people in Louisiana.....And if...
NT80 replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
They would move the game to Shreveport or Houston before ever thinking of Denton. -
Not a good sign that T.J. Raymond is not on that list and was doing scout team duty yesterday. I believe Tye Rexrode was warming up punting pre-scrimmage, had some good kicks. Spencer was in jersey but no pads from a sore shoulder. Baz missed on his two chances wide right from 40 yards at the end of practice. He did hit a longer one earlier.

Dickey to name starting QB soon 11:40 PM CDT on Saturday, August 27, 2005 DENTON – Coach Darrell Dickey said he would name a starting quarterback for UNT's season opener at LSU on Sept. 3 in the next few days following the Mean Green's final scrimmage of fall practice Saturday morning. Redshirt freshman Daniel Meager and freshman Matt Phillips have battled for the starting job throughout fall practice. Both worked with UNT's first-team offense during the scrimmage. Brett Vito Briefly ... Freshman safety Kartay Agbottah of Irving MacArthur, missed Saturday's scrimmage because he is still waiting for approval to play from the NCAA Clearinghouse. UNT coach Darrell Dickey said Agbottah has the required grades and test scores, which have been submitted. Brett Vito

Mean Green Holds Final Scrimmage On New Turf
NT80 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I believe the Eagle Stadium name was only used for the facility that was over by the Library Mall. In 1913 J. W. Pender, the new AD, along with some men students interested in athletics, and helped by the janitors, cleared and plowed the first athletic field to make it useable (library mall area). A small grandstand was built. NT played one football game that year, a 13-0 loss to TCU. In 1927 steel stands were built to seat 2,200 fans on the west side of the athletic field and the playing area lengthened to correspond to new rules of that year. In 1937, NT opened a new $10,000 seat grandstand, doubling the existing capacity of Eagle Stadium. This put seating facilities on the east side of the playing field, bringing capacity to about 7,000. Other references include a stadium funded and built in 1952; referred to as Fouts Field. Fouts was a former coach and AD and the architectual drawings were pictured in a yearbook with him in either 1951 or 52 and I think they said Fouts Field on them. -
Mean Green Holds Final Scrimmage On New Turf

Yes. -
Not so fast. When I was in school in 70's I was told there was a connection to the movie reference "Denton" and the real Denton, that it was not a coincidence. I believe either the writer or producer was from Denton, TX.

Nice billboard. Wonder why they didn't use the 800-UNT-2366 version of the phone number instead of all numbers? I still think 800-UNT-GAME or some other easy word combination would be better to remember and advertise. Is that a new coat of green and white paint on Fouts too?

hisssssss.....Kill the Parrot!

I'm glad we're practicing at Fouts, but I'll miss the view from the stands at C.H. Collins stadium. You're right next to the field there and the action is easy to see and hear (even when DD uses a few key phrases ). It made me see how badly we need a fan-friendly new stadium.

Turf ready for use at Fouts Field 11:41 PM CDT on Thursday, August 25, 2005 DENTON – The new artificial surface at Fouts Field passed its final inspection Thursday afternoon, clearing the way for the team to practice on its home field. Construction crews began working on the Sportexe Omnigrass surface late this summer. The last phase of construction will take place in the next few days when goal posts will be installed. UNT has a scrimmage scheduled Saturday but has not determined whether it will use the field or another location that has goal posts. Brett Vito

Well, if you enlarge the helmet pic and hold your hand over the -ORTH -EXAS part then you can visualize a NT on that same helmet. I say we sneak into the equipment room and do surgery on the decals!

Bus from New Orleans to LSU Tiger Stadium
NT80 replied to LSUTiger504's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks for the info. Is the bus ride as "friendly" to visitors as the stadium is? -
I predict our home attendance average would go way up in all conferences except the MAC.
-
Thanks for the info. It will probably be in the morning and perhaps then the players will get Sat. evening off. I'd like to have it at Fouts and see the team on the new turf. I heard the rubber pellets will settle faster as the field is used more. As for the scout team & LSU plays that brings up some interesting questions. LSU has a new head coach this season in Les Miles from Okla St., and I assume a new playbook. Will the scout plays be old OSU plays or how do they know what plays LSU will run? NT is easy to scout, just find any game from the past 6 years!

9 DAYS AND COUNTING ARE Y"ALL READY FOR THIS!
NT80 replied to Crip*TeamKATT's topic in Mean Green Football
I hope LSU brings their A-game, I want no excuses (new coach, injured players, stadium not finished, yada, yada...) . -
We needed to get "taller" and this helps, next year. But I'm always concerned about out of state players getting homesick.

When / where is the next scrimmage? Anyone know yet?

Huggins Agrees to Quit As Cincinnati Coach By JOE KAY, AP Sports Writer CINCINNATI - Bob Huggins agreed Wednesday to step down as Cincinnati's basketball coach, ousted by a school president determined to change the program's image. One day after Huggins was given a choice of resigning or being fired, he agreed to take a $3 million buyout of his contract. The school's offer includes a chance to stay for three more months, giving advice on basketball recruits and related matters. "We are working on the details of the agreement, which may or may not be finalized in the next 24 hours," said Richard Katz, the coach's attorney. Huggins left Katz's office without comment, dressed in his black Cincinnati jacket, when no final deal was reached on Wednesday. The university sent Katz a letter earlier in the day outlining the $3 million buyout. The letter, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, offered Huggins $110,000 per month for the next three months to stay on and ease the coaching transition. "His duties will include providing information about the current team, identifying and commenting upon potential recruits, and documenting his institutional memory of the basketball program during his 16-year coaching tenure," the letter said. An interim coach has not been chosen. The school doesn't anticipate hiring a permanent replacement until after the 2005-06 season, its first in the Big East. The school will have a difficult time attracting recruits in the meantime. The volcanic coach who won more games than anyone else in Cincinnati history was forced out by an academically minded school president who doesn't like Huggins' history or philosophy. President Nancy Zimpher sent Huggins an ultimatum on Tuesday, giving him 24 hours to either take the buyout, stay in a capacity other than basketball coach or get fired from the job. "It could happen to anyone when you get hired by a different president," Louisville coach Rick Pitino said Wednesday. "There's a difference in philosophies. It happens. It's a change in CEOs. They have their own people, their own philosophies, and it's different than what Bob stands for." Zimpher, hired in 2003, wants the program to recruit players with better grades and an aversion to trouble. She also wants her coaches to be better role models. Huggins' arrest and conviction for drunken driving last year dismayed Zimpher, a strong-willed administrator who wound up in a power struggle with the strong-willed coach. She refused to extend his contract last May, setting the stage for his exit. He may have been king of the hilltop campus, but it was Zimpher's hill. During a news conference on Tuesday evening, Zimpher insisted that the basketball program had to live up to her standards. "We expect to recruit very strong students, both on the court and in the classroom," Zimpher said. "We expect our coaches to be role models, and we expect our students to be role models. I will not apologize for setting high standards." During Huggins' 16-year stay at Cincinnati, the Bearcats made the Final Four and were ranked No. 1 nationally for the first time in 34 years. They also developed a history of player arrests and violations that resulted in an NCAA probation in 1998 and a hoodlum image nationally. In the 1990s, the Bearcats had one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation. After last season ended, a player was kicked off the team for having a gun on campus. An assistant coach was charged with drunken driving, but was acquitted at trial. Pitino, who sent Huggins an encouraging message after his heart attack in 2003, was saddened by the ouster. "Bob Huggins, a lot of times, is misunderstood," Pitino said. "He's someone who cares a great deal about his players. He wants to see them do well and he really goes the extra yard for players." Huggins' ouster less than two months before the start of the season shocked fans and the small number of students who were on campus Wednesday. Fall quarter classes begin on Sept. 21. The timing irked some students. "If Zimpher was going to get rid of him, she should have done it after the DUI and not waited until now when it's so close to the start of the season," said junior Alan Gerken. Cincinnati fans have readily forgiven players for suspensions and arrests because the program has been so successful. "We knew what kind of player he recruited, but who cared?" Gerken said. Several students stood in front of the administration building on Wednesday, holding signs supporting Huggins.

I hope we don't go to a platoon system, that never works.

Most of DFW has Comcast, but Time Warner bought the rights to it here recently and is to take over sometime. I'm not happy with Comcast; AT&T was better service before Comcast took it over. I hear most folks in Houston like Time Warner.
