Click on the spyglass on the stadium photo in the attached article and then select "larger" to get a feel of the size of that stadium from field level... (other construction photos are in the link above the article).... LSU Tiger Stadium construction progress LSU Chancellor's comments on the game reschedule: "...we have also made a decision just based on the surge of activity we anticipate in the hours and days ahead that we have postponed the North Texas game that was scheduled for Saturday night. A lot of effort has gone on to work with our friends at North Texas, as well as in the Sun Belt Conference to ensure that we can do an expeditious rescheduling of that effort. The answers will be forthcoming shortly. Their efforts have been nothing short of astounding to really work through this."

According to the Alabama Athletic website the Bama/Muts game can be seen on PPV Saturday. Anyone know if it's available in this area? Would it help our players to watch it and take notes?

Posted by PerryG in another thread: The designs used in the recent branding process are being displayed on the top floor of the Union. If anyone is near campus they need to come see this. Some of the concept sketches are interesting to say the least. I wish I could show some pictures. One design had the words "North Texas" blended into an eagle feather. There are also several variations of the eagle we ended up with (be glad they chose the one they did!). There are some interesting "tribal tattoo" looking eagles and eagle heads. There are also quite a few variations of a traditional collegiate interlocked "UNT"...and some of them look kinda cool. All in all, I really like what we ended up with. But go see it if you get a chance.

Katrina's effects hit teams Tulane football team to stay at SMU; games canceled, postponed 09:32 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 By KEITH WHITMIRE / The Dallas Morning News Hurricane Katrina's impact on the sports world reached all the way to the Dallas area Tuesday. North Texas' football game at LSU, scheduled for Saturday in Baton Rouge, La., has been postponed indefinitely. Tulane's football team, which plays its home games in the hurricane-damaged Louisiana Superdome, is moving its practices to SMU. Tulane's game at Southern Miss on Sunday has been postponed to Nov. 26. The Southland Conference, headquartered in Plano, had three of its seven games this week affected by hurricane-related problems. One of the problems administrators faced Tuesday was getting phone calls through to officials at the campuses affected by Katrina's destruction. While some stadiums escaped extensive damage, such as LSU's Tiger Stadium, the greater concern is that attempting to stage college football games could interfere with evacuation and rescue efforts. "Baton Rouge is becoming a triage unit for much of the New Orleans area," UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said. "We have to be concerned about the game, but in the same vein, we have to respect and make sure that LSU and the people of Baton Rouge have time to take care of a natural disaster that may be as bad as any they have ever experienced." LSU and North Texas do not have matching open dates. North Texas is looking at the possibility of moving other games on its schedule to fit the LSU game in. North Texas is to receive a $500,000 guarantee from LSU for playing the game. UNT's athletic budget for the fiscal year ending today is $12.2 million. "If we have to cancel it, we would have to find a way to raise additional money or cut money from the budget as we go along in the year to meet the bottom line," Villarreal said. "Right now we are not thinking about money, but it is part of the decision-making process." Tulane had moved its football team to Jackson State's campus in Jackson, Miss. However, when Katrina came ashore Monday morning, it turned east and knocked out power at Jackson State. SMU's administrators offered to let Tulane, a fellow member of Conference USA, share its practice facilities, and an area hotel is providing accommodations. The Green Wave was expected to reach Dallas early this morning. Donna Turner, Tulane's sports information director, said it was too early at this stage in the relief efforts to determine where Tulane will play its home games. The Green Wave is scheduled to play Mississippi State at home on Sept. 17. If that game is postponed, Tulane's first game would be Sept. 24 at SMU. Southern Miss has moved its operations to Memphis. At TCU, safety Marvin White said he was worried about family members back in his hometown of Port Barre, La., an hour northwest of New Orleans. "I called my mom, and she told me the only thing they got was rain and some heavy winds," White said. "It was a significant relief to hear that." Southeastern Louisiana was supposed to open the season Thursday night against Jacksonville but, with power still out in the Hammond, La., area, that game was postponed. McNeese State in Lake Charles, La., canceled its Saturday home game with Southern, which is in Baton Rouge. Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La., has postponed its game at Utah State scheduled for Saturday. Southland commissioner Tom Burnett said Nicholls State's campus, "is still without electricity, and many coaches, staff and student-athletes are with families in or near the affected areas of the storm. Also, it appears air travel to and from the New Orleans area may be suspended for quite some time." Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La., canceled football practice Tuesday. The players instead went to nearby shelters to comfort storm victims.

LSU-North Texas game postponed August 30, 2005 BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU postponed its scheduled football game Saturday night against North Texas because of Hurricane Katrina. ``The events of yesterday and this morning have made it clear that this is not the time to play a football game,'' LSU athletic director Skip Bertman said Tuesday. ``This is a dire situation that rivals any in the history of our state, and our priorities are on participating in recovery efforts.'' LSU has canceled classes until Sept. 6. ``The scope of this tragedy is becoming more evident as time passes, and LSU's focus is on assisting in the recovery effort of our state,'' LSU chancellor Sean O'Keefe said. ``LSU is a primary evacuation site and we are not going to conduct any activities that could deter from our mission of assisting in the recovery mission.'' LSU's Carl Maddox Field House is being used a Special Needs Shelter, the Pete Maravich Assembly Center has been designated as a triage unit for medical emergencies, and the Bernie Moore Track will be used as a helicopter landing site. The school hoped to announce the date for the postponed game in the next two to three days. LSU is ranked fifth in the country. Also, the Tulane-Southern Mississippi game scheduled for Sunday in Hattiesburg, Miss., has been moved to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. ``We have been in contact with the administrators for both universities and we all agree that the focus of our attention should be on the continued safety of the student-athletes, coaches and the lives of those affected by this storm,'' Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said. ``Playing a football game is not our highest priority at this time.'' Tulane's football and women's soccer teams fled New Orleans on Sunday, making a 9 1/2 -hour bus ride to Jackson, Miss. They've been practicing at Jackson State. In other changes, Nicholls State's game at Utah State on Saturday has been canceled. Nicholls State is located in Thibodaux, La. Also, Southern University's game Saturday at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La., has been canceled, and Jacksonville's game Thursday night at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La., has been postponed indefinitely.

Mean Green Football Opener Rescheduled Due To Hurricane Katrina Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 08/30/2005 Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Mean Green's Sept. 3 game against LSU has been rescheduled. DENTON (8/30/05) - The North Texas football season opener against Louisiana State on Sept. 3 has been postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina. “After discussions with the administration at LSU, they have communicated to us their desire to postpone the football game in Baton Rouge scheduled for Saturday,” Athletic Director Rick Villarreal said. “Considering the circumstances, we are in complete agreement with their decision. As time passes and the scope of this tragedy becomes more evident, postponing this game is the right thing to do. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this horrendous event and we will work with the LSU people to find an amicable solution when the time becomes more prudent.” A number of locations on the LSU campus, including athletic facilities, are being used in the recovery efforts in the aftermath of the hurricane. The Carl Maddox Fieldhouse is being used as a special-needs shelter and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center has been designated as a triage unit for medical emergencies. The Bernie Moore Track facility is also being used as a helicopter landing site. “Under the circumstances the decision has been made to postpone this game and we understand and support that decision,” head coach Darrell Dickey said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all the people who are suffering from this disaster. Out of respect for those involved, our team is making plans to assist in the relief effort." A makeup date for the game is being determined by the schools and is expected to be announced when available. North Texas football will practice as scheduled for the remainder of the week, and will add a practice session Saturday morning.

They now have two more weeks to practice against NT's SBC Championship Defense. We also have film of MTSU schemes to practice off of. The QBs will be more prepared for a positive outcome against MTSU than they would have against LSU.
-
Have to agree with that. We took a beating last year in the opening at UT, then lost all confidence and the game the next week to FAU trying to recover. We will be better ready mentally for MTSU without playing LSU. I do hope we can meet later this $eason.

"We wouldn't think we'd have to postpone the game," LSU assistant athletics director Herb Vincent said. "But there are a lot more factors to consider than just the condition of the stadium. For example, police and firemen and emergency personnel have a lot more to do now than to work a football game. We want to be sensitive to our fans in New Orleans and the conditions of roads and their safety."

2005-06 NT women's basketball North Texas Women's Basketball Annouces 2005-06 Schedule Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 08/29/2005 DENTON (8/29/2005) - The University of North Texas has announced its 2005-06 women’s basketball schedule that includes 14 home games, the second most in school history. The Mean Green will face six teams that made post-season appearances, including three teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament. "We are extremely excited about the number of home games on our 2005-2006 schedule. This will provide a great opportunity for our fans to see high quality women’s basketball in the Super Pit more than ever" said Head Coach Tina Slinker. "Our non-conference schedule will also provide us with a good test and get us ready for the Sun Belt Conference". The 14 home games for the Mean Green are the most at home since the 1995-96 season. North Texas has dominated at the Super Pit over the past seven seasons with a record of 62-19. The non-conference schedule is highlighted by home games against SMU and UTEP, a battle with Boston College in the New Hampshire Classic, along with a road game at Texas. North Texas will open the 2005-06 season with two home games against Stephen F. Austin and Southern Arkansas. The Mean Green will then travel to Durham, New Hampshire to take on Boston College in the first round of the New Hampshire Tournament. North Texas begins Sun Belt Conference play on January 5 at New Orleans. North Texas will play seven SBC home games, highlighted by a five-game homestand beginning with conference newcomer Troy. North Texas will host defending conference champion Middle Tennessee on February 8 in the final home game of the season before embarking on a four-game road trip to conclude the regular season. The 2006 SBC Tournament will be hosted by Middle Tennessee and played March 3-7.

Football: It’s Meager Redshirt freshman to start for North Texas 08:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 By Brett Vito / Staff Writer Daniel Meager will start for the North Texas football team against LSU on Saturday night after all. The redshirt freshman entered fall practice atop the depth chart and ended there as well, but had to go through a heated battle with freshman Matt Phillips to retain the starting job. Redshirt freshman Kellen Haynes also challenged Meager during workouts. “Daniel will start unless something major happens the rest of the week,” Dickey said late Monday night. “Matt and/or Kellen will play. No one has separated themselves, but Daniel has done slightly better and been in our system longer.” Dickey said he would likely rotate his quarterbacks throughout the first few games of the season until one takes hold of the job. The decision to start Meager against LSU is just the latest turn in a quarterback battle that has taken several twists since four-year starter Scott Hall completed his career last season. Joey Byerly served as Hall’s primary backup last season and ended spring practice as the projected starter, but was declared ineligible over the summer. Byerly’s departure opened the door for Meager who has played well at times, but received some unexpected competition from Phillips. The former San Angelo Lake View standout entered the fall as a long shot to secure any playing time in his first season at UNT, but has quickly impressed coaches with his arm strength and poise. Haynes also worked his way into the competition. “I have been pleased with all of them to be honest,” Dickey said. “I realize they are going to be inconsistent and are young. Someone is going to have to grow up in a hurry to be successful.” Dickey said he made a decision on who would start in part to ensure Meager would receive most of the practice repetitions over the last few days before the LSU game. Rotating quarterbacks is not an entirely unfamiliar position for UNT. Andrew Smith took over after Scott Hall was hurt in the 2002 season opener and led the Mean Green to a win over Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl. Smith began the 2003 season as the starter and rotated with Hall, who eventually won back the starting job and led UNT to a third straight Sun Belt Conference title. The battle between Meager and Phillips had been one of the most intriguing of fall camp for the Mean Green. UNT monitoring situation in Louisiana UNT administrators and coaches are closely monitoring the situation in Louisiana, where Hurricane Katrina is battering Baton Rouge. The Mean Green are scheduled to open their season with a game against LSU on Saturday night. As of Monday, the game was still on. “The assumption we will go under is that the game will be played,” UNT coach Darrell Dickey said. “We are going to take a charter flight to Baton Rouge on Friday.” The Tigers did not practice on Monday due to the weather. The situation hit close to home for Dickey, who served as the tight ends coach at LSU from 1991-93 and still has friends who live in the area. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Louisiana and Mississippi,” Dickey said. UNT could be shorthanded against LSU UNT will likely play without two members of its defensive line on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La., when the Mean Green take on LSU. Sophomore T.J. Raymond is still working to meet NCAA requirements to play for the Mean Green this fall. Isaac Thomas could also miss the game. The redshirt freshman has dealt with heath issues throughout the fall that have prevented him from playing in the heat. One good bit of news UNT did receive is that tight end Beau Davidson will return in time for the LSU game. The junior has been working to overcome a shoulder injury.

That interlocked "NT" is what we need on our helmets and at midfield. Enough with the word games on the helmets.

If nothing else comes of his time there, it was nice to see Booger get some National prime time with the photo and Madden comments.

Forget the weather, here's a real forecast for LSU
NT80 replied to MootPoint's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, if DD went to coach at LSU I think we could predict his base offense and defense. He wouldn't switch to a passing offense no matter who his personnel was. Same with Les Miles. He will run similar plays as OSU ran. As for the game, I expect both teams to make mistakes on offense and defense. What we need to do is keep from giving up turnovers and the easy points to LSU which will get their confidence going and rile the fans up. I can see a 10-3 game mid-way into the 2nd quarter when one of two things happen: either NT makes a huge gaff and goes into the half down 24-3 or toughs up and keeps it 13-6 at half. The last 8 minutes of the first half will make or break this game. -
LSU would just move the game to Shreveport...too many Tiger fans in that state to even think about moving it to Texas.
