  1. Agree. More wins for TCU = more media for TCU = less for UNT
  2. I agree with his Keys to the Game; plus more carries for JMo.
  3. I'd also prefer the Bowl in Shreveport. It's more of a tourist destination location with casinos and better hotels, plus it's a closer drive for all the UNT fans!!
  4. The TCU WR in motion on that last play of OT also angled up field before the snap, no call.
  5. me like.
  6. Great letter. That should be sent to RV, all recruit's parents, and posted on the main Athletic page.
  7. I think Phillips will get some game time, it was just never a good time to change during the Muts game. I like Meager's composure but I'm still concerned about his shoulder, ankle, and other dings, and long ball acuracy. By the Troy game we'll know more about who we have and what they can do.
  8. 6:30 pm, ESPN, Utah @ TCU Which Frog team will show up?
  9. Exactly. If NT wants to run with the Big Dogs then this is the first bite. Woof, woof!
  10. Sugar Bowl could play at LSU if hotels return September 14, 2005 NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Work crews were busy in several New Orleans hotels Wednesday, repairing damage from Hurricane Katrina. That's good news for the Sugar Bowl. If enough hotels in the New Orleans area are up and running by December, this year's Sugar Bowl will be played at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. If they aren't, Atlanta's Georgia Dome would be a likely alternative, Sugar Bowl executive director Paul Hoolahan is expected to tell the commissioners of the 11 Division I-A conferences at a BCS meeting Tuesday in Chicago. ``Obviously, this will not be a normal New Orleans Sugar Bowl experience,'' said Hoolahan, who got his first look at the bowl offices in the Superdome on Wednesday. ``But I think everyone will take a little disruption, maybe more than a little disruption, to get this done. ``Our preference is to play the game in Louisiana, because the Sugar Bowl is a Louisiana event. But we are pursuing a parallel track to ensure that there is a Sugar Bowl this year.'' Sugar Bowl officials will be anxiously watching the progress of restoring the Superdome, something that is expected to take at least a year. The new BCS contract cycle begins in 2006. The Sugar Bowl is scheduled to play host not only to the national championship game after the 2007 season but the ``regular'' Sugar Bowl under the double-hosting format that starts next season. Hoolahan said playing the game anywhere but New Orleans would be difficult beyond 2006. That could mean the BCS awarding the Sugar Bowl spot in the championship rotation to another bowl. ``I wouldn't be honest if I didn't tell you I'm feeling the pressure,'' Hoolahan said. ``And I'd be foolish not to acknowledge that the commissioners don't have some of those thoughts in their minds right now.'' Bowl officials hope the state will make a quick commitment to restore the Superdome and that work will begin soon. ``Our job is to be part of the recovery of the economy,'' Sugar Bowl president Mark Romig said. ``We realize that there will have to be a reassessment of the Superdome and issues like rebuilding the levees will take first priority. ``But it is our hope that major league football remains in New Orleans on both the college and professional level. I don't want to speculate any more beyond this year, except to say that the Sugar Bowl will still be around.'' The Sugar Bowl game on Jan. 2 will match the SEC champion -- provided that team is not playing for the BCS championship in the Rose Bowl -- and an at-large team. ``Our priority is this season and doing all we can to help the Sugar Bowl be part of the recovery of New Orleans,'' said Big 12 commissioner and BCS coordinator Kevin Weiberg. ``But it's far too early to speculate on anything beyond this season.'' Neither Hoolahan nor LSU athletic director Skip Bertman see any problem with playing the game at Tiger Stadium. The problem is hotel space. Sugar Bowl fans normally occupy up to 30,000 hotel rooms in New Orleans, something the Baton Rouge area couldn't approach even if every available room weren't being used by those displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Many of the major hotels in New Orleans hope to complete repairs and be ready for business soon. ``If they operating, they're going to need customers,'' Hoolahan said. ``We can provide that.'' If there are insufficient hotel rooms, an alternate site within the SEC would be found. Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla., have been those most prominently mentioned, but Jacksonville appears out because Jan. 2 also is the date of the Gator Bowl, making hotel space unavailable. Birmingham's Legion Field is another possibility, but that stadium lacks amenities such as luxury suites. Wherever the game is played, the Sugar Bowl would have no problem meeting its financial obligation to stage it, Hoolahan said. ``The Sugar Bowl isn't going anywhere,'' he said. ``The Sugar Bowl is synonymous with New Orleans, and we are totally invested in rebuilding the Superdome.''
  11. Dallas Morning News, Inside front page of the sports section, at the bottom with photo... REALLY IMPORTANT PERSON OF THE WEEK by Steve Davis Bruce Bell, UNT running backs coach It's a little bit of a stinko weekend for football around here. The Cowboys won't hut and hit until Monday night. The college schedule is something of a yawner where the heavyweights are concerned. So it looks like a terrific week to reconnoiter up I-35, to Denton, to check out a couple of UNT running backs who just happened to lead the NCAA in rushing the last two years. Patrick Cobbs did so in 2003. Jamario Thomas' did it in 2004 as injuries knocked down Cobbs. UNT plays Tulsa (the would be-Sooner killers last weekend) Saturday in Denton. Mean Green running backs coach Bruce Bell is the man overseeing UNT's pair of game-breakers. It's up to Bell, who played at UNT under Hayden Fry, to get the most out of these two prizes. Of course, sometimes coaching is pretty simple stuff. "I just make sure they are on the bus and on the plane," Bell says with a laugh. On the difficulty in getting both players lots of carries: Sometimes, it is. We wish both could carry it 28 times a game. Right now, it's whoever is hot. You get into a rhythm in games, and sometimes, you don't want to break that rhythm. On his role of managing egos and psyches: It's really easy because they are such great kids. We went in today [Monday] and talked to them about how each game is gonna be different. They understand that each game is different, and they know they have to prepare for it. On the players' differences: You wouldn't believe how great a student of the game Patrick is, and that is starting to rub off on Jamario. Jamario, that first year, it was all instinct. Now, he's picking up some more technical stuff, and that's going to carry him even further.
  12. Yes. I heard there was a conflict with having homecoming the ULL game on Nov. 5 as Texas Motor Speedway in FTW has a big race that weekend which has taken most hotel rooms.
  13. A win against CUSA member Tulsa would help our case for joining them someday too!
  14. "...the evil empire of the Sun Belt, North Texas..." By Mark Risley 4. While the majority of the college football world was engrossed in the epic battle in Columbus, OH (and the vast overflow entranced in the first half of the eventual LSU/ASU roller-coaster ride in Tempe, AZ), there was a heckuva game being staged in the Sun Belt Conference. Yeah, yeah. It sounds crazy, doesn’t it? You certainly couldn’t imagine anyone outside of Denton, TX and/or Murfreesboro, TN straying from their local ABC affiliates (although, a shot of Jack & a pint of Shiner Bock says that even the folks in those two towns demoted the Sun Belt to second fiddle this past Saturday evening), but having four TV’s has its advantages. In case you missed it, though, the evil empire of the Sun Belt, North Texas, was about to be vanquished by a fleet of Blue Raiders from Middle Tennessee State. MTSU was up 7-0 and about to march into the end-zone for another six pack, which would have likely been the end of UNT’s offensively-challenged chances of winning this game. Instead, UNT’s rising star LB Maurice Holman stepped in front of an intended TD pass from MTSU’s oft-accurate Clint Marks just in front of the goal line, and galloped 99 yards for the equalizing tally. Sure, the game was still very much in doubt at that point, but it may as well have ended with that very play. As usual (at least, for the past four seasons), the Mean Green defense took over & that was that – UNT 14, MTSU 7. Sure, UNT may still lose a Sun Belt game this season, but it’s unlikely that MTSU will be able to overtake UNT for the conference crown. This is what college football is all about – an elimination game in the second week of September. If you think the Ohio State-Texas outcome was a deflating blow to Tressel & Co., then you can imagine, in a conference where only one bowl berth is guaranteed, how much air was taken out of the bubble on the campus of MTSU. One day very soon, Andy McCollum & his Blue Raiders squad will get over the Denton hump, but that “blue dawn” will have to wait for yet another year. In the meantime, the broken levees may have forced the Sun Belt headquarters to jump tracks from its comfortable Crescent City environment, but the song remains the same: North Texas is still the team to beat in the Sun Belt.
  15. If these new 1-A power Sunshine State schools don't soon find some fans to come watch their games they will be back in 1-AA.
  16. Be there, No excuses: Saturday: Mainly sunny. Highs in the mid 90s and lows in the low 70s. So, how did inland Tulsa get that "Golden Hurricanes" nickname anyway??
  17. Yes, the TV announcers were talking about his track speed. One replay showed him coming right at the sideline camera and they quipped "...here comes 4.4 speed right at you...".
  18. I saw Mitch play in both HS (Plano) and at NT. The funny thing was that Plano rarely ever threw the ball, mainly option offense. If they'd only known what they had!
  19. Rumor on the M&G "bitter" Board says the LSU game may get moved to a Thursday night for TV....
  20. Thanks for the report, keep us updated.
  21. I hate being next to SMUt, on any list!
  22. Not a stellar start by our opponents, but predictable: Tulsa = 0-2 K-State = 2-0 La Tech = 0-1 LSU = 1-0 SBC = 2-12
  23. Interesting list of cities.
  24. nice pics, thanks for posting them
  25. After only two weeks that shows how bad this conference is.
