First, if there are only 4 teams involved, either selected by computer and/or human poll, it is still not a true championship. It is popularity, not fact. Who says the 5th undefeated team couldn't have beaten them all? Invite all 1-A conference winners, plus at-large teams (that's where you can use the polls, computers, etc.) = 16 total. Then have a true playoff and determine the champ on the field. Equal access must be the key and with all conferences allowed at least one entry all teams then have access.

Who cares? Without a playoff you really don't know who the true champ is. Kill the BC$.

That's pretty good. But likewise, you can put a dress and lipstick on a pig, but it is still a PIG. Call it what you want, even improvement, if that will make you sleep better, but a 56-3 loss to any team, anywhere is not acceptable, NEVER will be. DEMAND BETTER!

That's right, a 59-3 score instead of 56-3 might have dropped us in the polls.

You have to look at the bigger picture. Is going 6-5 to the Cajun Bowl the ultimate goal of the season? Or, does getting blown out in OOC again (now 7-42) get factored into the success or lack of for the season? I would be happy for the players to have something positive to say about this year, but it may trap us into future futility in moving forward overall. While I would enjoy saying we are 5-time Champs of the SunBelt (as people snicker), I would rather say we have made a decision to better the football program.

I don't think a win over LSU, Kansas State, Tulsa at home, or even La Tech would upset anyone. A win over ULL just doesn't mean as much as it used to (as if it ever did).

That has to be the worst ranking of a complete conference in the history of college football, at any level.

(10/30/05) – The North Texas women’s soccer team had their 15-game unbeaten streak come to an end as Middle Tennessee defeated the Mean Green 3-0 in the regular season finale for both teams. The loss is the first for North Texas (13-3-2, 8-1) since August 27 and only the third of the season. North Texas had already clinched the regular season Sun Belt Conference Championship and the top seed in the upcoming tournament heading into the game. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half as the Blue Raiders out-shot the Mean Green 9-2 in the first half. Middle Tennessee was able to break through three minutes into the second half as Holly Grogan beat Kandice Ellis on a one-on-one breakaway. Rachel Holmes extended the Blue Raider lead in the 72nd minute of play to 2-0 on another breakaway. The Blue Raiders closed out the scoring with 13 seconds remaining in the game as Rebecca Rodriguez notched her 12th goal of the season. Ellis made eight saves on the day for North Texas as Middle Tennessee out-shot the Mean Green 16-6 for the game. North Texas will be the top seed in the Sun Belt Conference tournament which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 2 in Mobile, Ala. The Mean Green are going after their second straight conference tournament title and NCAA tournament appearance.

I would gladly take all wins in OOC and no conference wins. It is false reality to win a SBC Championship and not beat anyone outside conference and think we are among the 1-A elite. Our goals have to be higher.

I can see it now, the SBC has no 6-win team. UCF vs. Nevada in the ULL Bowl. Attendance = 4,000. We lose (or loose if you prefer) our Bowl certification next year because of poor attendance average.

I always liked that interlocked "NT" but wasn't crazy about the "Eagle thru the hula-hoop" as some called it. That NT was used for several years on school rings and would look good by itself on a helmet. Anyone have $50,000 to change the helmet logo?

Excellent post. We have become stagnant. Time for us to re-invent the wheel or get a new wheelmaker. BTW, for wanting to be a run-first team, or establish the run with two NCAA rushing champions, we opened against La Tech with like 8 out of 10 plays being passes. Perhaps it was trying to loosen the defense, or not having confidence in the OL to run block, but it seemed strange, and didn't work either. Next?
