  1. I gotta go with Dodge. He IS a head coach. He IS an offensive mind. He IS known in the metroplex and state-wide by fans and by recruits. All things we NEED NOW!
  2. You think fans will be excited by Nix? Excitement, selling season tickets, alumni relations, corporate sponsors, and making donors want to give are some things the new coach will need along with his name recognition to accomplish. Dodge has that ability.
  3. Nix and Butler. I'd like to see some other names contacted.
  4. He gets my vote.
  5. Tyrone Nix bio & photo from U. South Carolina
  6. UTA is also like 4-1, lost in OT to TCU, not that bad.
  7. He's a defensive coordinator at SC in his 2nd year there after 10 at USM, not sure if he is the asst HC. He is only 33 years old. No Texas connections that I could find, a Deep South guy who has only coached defense.
  8. Troy took the lead over the MUTS with 14 seconds left. I guess I'll be a Troy fan next week too... MUTS =
  9. Oh please YES! Could it get any better than that?
  10. Nix ? As for Dickey: "....finished with a 42-64 record with the Mean Green." That says it all.
  11. As much as DD wants to take credit for the Bowls, there would have been none without WW and the forming of SBC football.
  12. SMUt ends season at 6-6, Rice is 7-5. Too bad , so sad...not!
  13. Preview: UNT at La.-Monroe 6 p.m., Malone Stadium (KWRD-FM 100.7, KNTU-FM 88.1) 11:11 PM CST on Friday, November 24, 2006 By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle UNT (2-4, 3-8) at La.-Monroe (1-4, 2-8) Line: ULM by 7 WHAT'S ON THE LINE UNT –The Mean Green is trying to send coach Darrell Dickey out on a high note and build momentum for the off-season. ULM –The Warhawks look to build on a win over Florida International and a near-win against Kentucky. WHO'S HOT UNT –Redshirt freshman RB Evan Robertson ran for 201 yards against Fla. Atlantic. ULM –Junior RB Calvin Dawson rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns last week in a loss to Kentucky. WHO'S NOT UNT –Quarterback Daniel Meager committed three costly turnovers and injured his elbow against Florida Atlantic. ULM –The Warhawks gave up 359 passing yards to Kentucky. STAT THAT TELLS THE STORY ULM rushed for 351 yards at Kentucky. UNT is fourth in the Sun Belt with 143.3 rushing yards allowed per game. KEY MATCHUP UNT S AARON WEATHERS VS. ULM RB CALVIN DAWSON: The Warhawks have gone to an option-based attack behind Dawson, who leads the Sun Belt with an average of 96.4 rushing yards per game. UNT has allowed only two 100-yard rushers this season and needs to avoid surrendering a big day. UNT WINS IF The Mean Green channels its emotions in Dickey's last game. ULM WINS IF The Warhawks could end their season with a flourish if they run the ball the way they did against Kentucky. PREDICTED SCORE ULM 27, UNT 17
  14. Those facts, 42-63, say UNT did the right thing by firing him!!! Now, about Miami firing a coach that goes 59-15?
  15. I was at the Plano/PNG game in '77. The actual listed attendance was 49,953, so close to 50K. I think 4A was the top classification then too.
  16. Now 15-9 Trinity in 3rd. Fan on DMN blog estimates 40,000+ at the game.
  17. Very interesting. We need baseball.
  18. ?? A previous poster said that is to be rec fields. The masterplan has the baseball field next to the softball field along Bonnie Brae and across from the A/C drive entrance.
  19. Correct, and I think ULM was paying him $1/year during that time. Think we could get Coker for $1?
  20. You better check your facts. Players parent's have said the black jersey was DD's idea, not the players and they were forced to wear them.
  21. Know any U VPs or big donors that are current on coaching bios? A search committee just becomes a popularity contest between who has ever heard of what person, then sticks the AD with their pick to supervise. If RV makes the pick then he is completely responsible for the pick. I trust him to make a good selection (unless they have a SMUt background! ).
  22. He has $6 million reasons not to be UNT next coach as Miami owes him $2 mil/year for 3 more years. Most contact payouts are voided when a coach takes another job within the original contract time.
  23. Dodge is coaching his son this year as he plays QB as a junior. He would be established as the QB for next year even if Todd left. Todd would have the unique opportunity to take the job at UNT, stay in his current home, and watch his son play next year. Now, he's not going to move his son away for his senior year, but he already said in an earlier article that leaving before his son graduates wouldn't be a problem if it was a good fit.
  24. The media rips UNT for firing a coach 20 games under .500 but expects Coker 59-15 to be fired for weeks? ......................................................... Miami fires coach Larry Coker By TIM REYNOLDS, AP Sports Writer CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Larry Coker's tumultuous and disappointing season at Miami ended with his dismissal as head coach. Coker was fired Friday, a move that was expected for weeks. It came one day after the Hurricanes finished a 6-6 regular season by beating Boston College, snapping a four-game losing streak and becoming bowl-eligible. Coker will coach the team in a bowl game, if Miami is invited, athletic director Paul Dee said. "I'd like to certainly end on a positive note," Coker said. After the game, he said he expected to remain at Miami "a long time." But less than 12 hours later, despite a 59-15 record and two appearances in the national championship game, Coker was gone — doomed largely by 12 losses in the last three seasons, and no conference titles or major bowl bids since 2003. He had three seasons left on a contract that paid him about $2 million annually. "There were a lot of issues, but certainly the direction the program was going was certainly one," Dee said. "I wouldn't say that was totally it, but if you want to look in that direction, that was one. There were disappointments. There were opportunities, I think, to play better and we didn't. It all comes to the head coach." There are plenty of potential candidates to replace Coker, including former Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez, who is close with Miami president Donna Shalala; Rutgers coach and former Miami assistant Greg Schiano; and Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe. Former Florida coach and current South Carolina boss Steve Spurrier said earlier this week that he expects to be back with the Gamecocks next fall for his third season — trying to rebuke a story that identified him as Miami's top choice for the job.
