Not what I saw Saturday. Hopovac had him beat in all areas, but even he was inconsistent. Add this to an area of concern for the season.
-
I thought it was reported as crisp and explosive?
-
He is waiting for the be$t offer.

It's meant to be played over loud speakers at Fouts on key 3rd down plays to scare Mustangs, Bulldogs, Panthers, and the like....

Nice looking, older venue posted by Scottie on the M&G Board. Note the light poles next to the field, and the ground level lettering outside the stadium.... Akron's Rubber Bowl

Hey, maybe the ice is thawing on the new stadium idea again?

Is being the laughing stock of the Big?12 any better for Baylor? And who cares?

8 carries, 26 yds. 1 reception, 19 yds. 1 fumble lost. PC played most all the second half. He made some excellent blocks and picked up some blitzers and was mentioned by the commentators, otherwise the fumble hurt him. Someone posted he got credit for one tackle on kickoff. He had a chance for a TD carry from the 2 yard line but a lineman moved early and the play was called dead after he got the ball, then they changed the play and he didn't get a chance close in again.

Don't know. All of our QBs, besides Tune, have been injured this camp at some point. I read where Jmo now has a sprained ankle. Just the nature of the sport I guess. None of the QBs have really outshown the rest so it doesn't matter to me who starts, the next guy won't be much better or worse. Besides JQ I don't see the offense shining too much this season. Maybe we have new gimmick plays that will surprise? Let's hope the Defense keeps em close for a long time.

The photo is from a different day, not yesterday. The report might as well been also because the offense I saw was neither crisp nor explosive. Pure spin.

Kicking: Spencer was booming punts in warmups, the backup, a new LB I believe, not so good. Hopovac is serviceable as a kicker this season, seems to have more confidence than last spring but not the distance and consistency of Baz yet. Woodward looks nervous and linedrives his kicks or shanks kickoffs. Maybe a redshirt year.

McCoy shines in UT scrimmage 08:02 PM CDT on Saturday, August 19, 2006 By CHIP BROWN / The Dallas Morning News AUSTIN – Coaches have been saying all through camp that redshirt freshman Colt McCoy would start at quarterback if the season began today. McCoy did nothing to dispel that thinking in Saturday's scrimmage, appearing to separate from true freshman Jevan Snead. McCoy was 5-of-6 passing for 68 yards. McCoy led the first-team offense on two touchdown drives against the second-team defense and then took the rest of the day off. Snead was 4-of-8 passing for 24 yards with an interception and a sack. Snead led three drives and part of a fourth – but none of them produced points. "Colt has come out and been very efficient in both scrimmages we've had. Jevan is learning," Brown said. "You can see there is a tremendous amount of talent in both of them. Both will be outstanding players." Snead went three-and-out on a drive with the second-team offense against the first-team defense. On his second drive, Snead worked with the first-team offense against the second-team defense. But that drive stalled when Snead was sacked by freshman DE Lamarr Houston on third down. On his third drive, Snead worked with the first-team offense against the second-team defense but was intercepted by freshman S Robert Joseph. Snead got three plays in another drive with the first-team offense against the second-team defense before he was replaced by Sherrod Harris. The team's final scrimmage of fall camp will be Wednesday night. It is closed to the public and media. BRIEFLY: RB Selvin Young (four carries for 56 yards and a TD), RB Jamaal Charles (three carries for 31 yards and a TD) and WR Limas Sweed (three catches for 63 yards) all had notable performances Saturday. ... Young had a 35-yard punt return, and Aaron Ross had a 42-yard kick return. ... LB Sergio Kindle of Woodrow Wilson, who has missed every practice since Aug. 8 with an ankle injury, did not play Saturday. ... Freshman K Hunter Lawrence hit a field goal from 37 yards but had another one from that distance blocked by DE Brian Robison. ... K Greg Johnson hit from 37 yards. ... QB Sherrod Harris was 2-of-3 passing for 13 yards and ran twice for 14 yards. ... Freshman DBs Chykie Brown, Deon Beasley and Robert Joseph all played well and appear unlikely to redshirt. ... Mack Brown said freshman DT Ben Alexander would play this season.

Geez...talk about some spin.
-
None that I saw yet. Look for him in the 2nd half.
-
Because he has been injured in the past, including this past week.

One word about the offense today, besides offensive, it was UGLY. It was mostly Jmo-less. I think he played one or two plays then sat the rest of the scrimmage. Robertson did some good things however at RB and scored twice on a about a 10-yard run and about a 40 yarder. But it took at least an hour for the first score. A few long drives then a turnover would end them. Still some muffed snaps. Wilson and Phillips got the vast majority of snaps and Tune a few series with the second teamers. I could not name a starter yet. All threw picks and the only TD pass I recall was Phillips to Quinn about 20 yards. Phillips throws a nice ball and has command out there but was not as accurate today and sacked several times. Wilson must have ran 15+ times with the ball...make him a RB if he likes to carry it that much. He won't set in the pocket and still likes the contact too much. No long completions that I saw from him; many out throws, from all QBs. Tune is raw but has good size and poise for a freshman. I don't see him playing this year yet. More later, it was hot just watching, I can't imagine how the players felt after 4 hours in the heat running. The Defense looked dominate at times, but then it's only against our offense. Mucho frustration watching some things.

Mean Green Fall To Sooners 3-2 In Preseason Game Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 08/18/2006 DENTON, Tex. (8/18/06) – In a back and forth match the North Texas women’s soccer team fell to Oklahoma 3-2 in a preseason game from the North Texas Soccer Stadium at the Mean Green Village. North Texas fell behind early 2-0 to Oklahoma, as the Sooners scored twice in the first 24 minutes of the game. Kady Kelly made it 1-0 Oklahoma with a goal from 10 yards out on the left side. Shana All gave the Sooners a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute off a centering feed from Kelly in the box. The Mean Green answered five minutes later with a goal from sophomore Veronica Ayala on a scramble in the box. Ayala put away the rebound shot after Dani Slavonic’s initial header was stopped. Oklahoma held a 2-1 lead into the break, but North Texas immediately knotted the game up 95 seconds into the second half. Senior Kristen Campbell took an Oklahoma turnover and buried a shot into the right side of the net from 10 yards out to even the game up at 2-2. Oklahoma retook the lead for good in the 51st minute when All tallied her second goal of the night on a deflection off a pass from Daphne Fitzpatrick. North Texas outshot the Sooners in the second half 6-5, but could not get the game tying goal. Junior goalkeeper Kandice Ellis made four saves on the night for the Mean Green. North Texas plays their final exhibition game tomorrow night, against the Alumni at 7 p.m. from the North Texas Soccer Stadium.

Excellent idea.

Isn't it unusual to have an exhibition game in the middle of the season. I would like to get SMUt and TCU back on the hoops schedule, along with UTA. They are easy travel games and would draw more opponent fans than many other games would. We could have a Metroplex Trophy for the winner.
-
Only two words come to mind with the mention of SMUt Football.....Death Penalty.
-
Tomorrow morning should be a fun scrimmage to compare QBs. Are all candidates healthy again?

I am curious how we as fans are compared to other fans of 1-A programs. And what should our expectations be in return? On the negative side I know we don't donate $ like BCS schools. We have paltry home attendance for a school of 30K in a metro area of 5 million. I am sure our travel numbers could also be much larger to major sports away games and more home attendance for minor sports. Many students and alums remain aloof to the Athletic program and feign support for the school. Yet, I see signs that fan interest is there, waiting for something good to ever happen. The New Orleans Bowls during mid-week drew many more NT fans than I thought possible, some of which never show at Fouts and came from all over the US. Our fan boards, yes we have at least two, seem to be some of the most active among non-BCS programs. We hold our own in responding to attacks from other boards...ie: we travel well on the internet! Gameday experience from tailgating to concessions has improved 1000% in the last few years. Many more options for food and activities are available as well as info from video-boards to concession TVs. The MGC offers nice gifts and a re-done deck and BB meeting areas. They try to supply food/drink but that area needs work in efficiency and options. The main areas I see needing improvememt from my view is info, merchandise, and quality products on the court and fields. The official website is a great tool for fans as long as it's maintained and updated. An outdated roster for the sport in season is unexcusable. Likewise, if you want to attract more football fans you have to supply more football information. Practice updates should be daily during camp, it's free advertising. More media is more advertising. Where is our DFW Marketing team?? Wake them up! How about posting future schedules, even incomplete, when known? I slowly see more hats in area malls, but shirts and other items are still scarce outside Denton. We are being out-shelved by Troy in some stores in the Metroplex, that's a sin! The last item, quality of product, is the most important to a fan yet the least influenced by the fans. We don't write coaching contracts or sign players but for sure we'll tell you our opinions about them. I think RV reads the boards enough to get the gist of what's on our minds in different areas. If the hard-core fans like it or don't like it you can be sure the casual fan will be turned on or off about it even sooner. MOre fans are needed, but more results are needed first. Rant over...carry on.

Would you expect otherwise from a 1-A program??
-
That is good qb size. He sounds a little like the Scott Hall story.

One goof on this article from Vito was it contained this years schedule, but with incorrect start times (they showed eastern time starts, like 7pm for our home games). So when the newly interested fan goes to turn on the UT/NT game on TV at Noon on Sept 2 he will immediately see the 2nd quarter score of .........
