  1. The DRC article said Petersen was a 4-year letterman at DB for Air Force, so I can kinda see where he would be alright coaching them. I also didn't understand the split of CB and Safties coaches, until I looked on the SLC coaching duties and that is what TD did there also. I checked OU, UT and LSU coaching staffs and they all had basically the same coaching duties: Head Coach Assistant Head Coach/Runningbacks Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Defensive Coordinator Tight Ends/Recruiting Coordinator Defensive Line Coach Defensive Backs Coach Wide Receivers/Passing Game Coordinator Special Teams Coordinator/Linebackers Offensive Line Coach Strength & Conditioning Coordinator ............................. SLC listed the coaches as: www.southlakecarrolldragonsfootball.com Todd Dodge - Head Coach Todd Ford - Off Coord/RB Ron Mendoza - Def Coord/LB Robert Drake -DT Dave Fuller - S Tony Holmes - CB Larry Hughes - K Aaron Lineweaver - DE Paul Pinson - OL Kirk Rogers - WR Doug Stephens - WR Jeremy Trojacek - OL

  3. Football: Dodge still filling out UNT staff Coach gives assignments to Mean Green assistants 12:30 AM CST on Saturday, January 6, 2007 By Brett Vito / Staff Writer Todd Dodge’s staff at North Texas continued to take shape on Friday when Butch LaCroix returned to the school as the Mean Green’s cornerbacks coach. LaCroix spent six years on UNT’s staff in the 1980s after finishing his playing career at the University of Houston. LaCroix is the sixth coach to join Dodge’s first staff at UNT. His assignment as cornerbacks coach is one of several Dodge announced that will keep the coaches he brought with him from Southlake Carroll in familiar roles. Todd Ford will serve as UNT’s offensive coordinator, while Ron Mendoza will be the Mean Green’s defensive coordinator. Both served in the same capacity at Carroll under Dodge, who took over as Mean Green head coach last month before closing out his run at Carroll by leading the Dragons to a fourth Class 5A state title. Robert Drake, a third former Carroll assistant, will coach UNT’s defensive line. Drake served in the same role with the Dragons. Mendoza will coach UNT’s linebackers in addition to serving as the Mean Green’s defensive coordinator. Chuck Peterson, who was the offensive coordinator at Air Force last season, will coach UNT’s safeties. Peterson has spent the majority of his career coaching on the offensive side of the ball but was a four-year letterman at defensive back for Air Force. Dodge has previously announced that former Haltom head coach and UNT letterman Clayton George will coach the Mean Green’s wide receivers. Dodge still has a few positions to fill and plans to complete his staff in the next few days.
  4. Thanks for the info; I know UNT fans are excited to have him as coach.
  5. I also agree Metroplex billboards, like the Dodge pop-up window, are needed (even on the back of the Fouts pressbox). Now is the time to pull out all the marketing that has been missing in past seasons, while Dodge is hot and fans are excited again. The billboards would eventually pay for themselves in more attendance/tickets. Think BIG - be BIG.
  6. Football: North Texas lands Air Force assistant Petersen Former FW Eastern Hills standout returns to Metroplex 11:23 PM CST on Thursday, January 4, 2007 By Brett Vito / Staff Writer Chuck Petersen left the Dallas area years ago, but that doesn’t mean the latest assistant coach to join Todd Dodge’s staff at North Texas hasn’t kept tabs on his home city. The former Fort Worth Eastern Hills standout recruited North Texas during more than 20 years as an assistant coach at the Air Force Academy. “We are coming back home,” Petersen said. “Our whole family is from the area. I am a Forth Worth guy.” Exactly what Petersen’s duties will be as a member of the UNT staff has yet to be determined. Peterson was the offensive coordinator at Air Force and has spent his career coaching on the offensive side of the ball. Dodge has already hired Todd Ford, his former offensive coordinator at Southlake Carroll. Former Haltom head coach and UNT letterman Clayton George has joined the Mean Green’s staff as wide receivers coach. Air Force ran an option-based offense throughout Petersen’s tenure at Air Force under legendary coach Fisher DeBerry. Dodge runs a spread offense that relies heavily on the passing game. “I am excited about getting into a new system,” said Petersen, who was a four-year letterman at Air Force as a defensive back. “I will get a chance to learn it from one of the best.” Dodge took over as UNT’s new head coach after winning the last of four Class 5A state titles at Carroll on Dec. 23. Petersen will add a veteran college coach to a staff that will have several coaches who have spent the last few years on the high school level. Dodge is UNT’s former offensive coordinator, but he has hired three former Carroll assistants in addition to George. Petersen will immediately become one of the Mean Green’s most experienced recruiters on the college level. He signed several players from Texas who went on to become key players at Air Force, including quarterback Blane Morgan. Morgan, who played at Trinity Christian-Addison, had a 20-3 record as a starter at Air Force and was the Falcons wide receivers coach last season.
  7. Very good.

    Cowboys?

Not sure what it means, but I saw Parcells buying a carload of Black jerseys from a guy along the roadside.
  9. $outhlake has the kind of $upport we need too.

  11. another bio found: Chuck Petersen has been a varsity assistant for the Air Force Academy football program since 1991, serving as offensive coordinator since 2000 and quarterbacks and fullbacks coach since 1997. With Petersen at the helm, the Falcons led the conference in total offense, scoring, rushing, passing efficiency, and third- and fourth-down conversions in 2000. In 2002, Air Force won its first national rushing title and led the conference in scoring. In 2003, Petersen was named Assistant Coach of the Year for Division I by the American Football Coaches Association.
  12. This was the all-star game Todd Dodge was going to be head coach in before he accepted the UNT job. I'd bet they still mention Dodge and UNT during this National broadcast. Coaching convention during this weekend too in SA. .................................................................................... 15. Good point. Is this also where the HS all-star is to be played that he was to coach in? That will be some good PR for NT too as it is a National TV game.
  16. A coordinator at a quality program like that is a good hire. And perhaps he was their recruiter for DFW/Texas? Dodge is not going to waste a hire on a person he doesn't think will contribute something good to NT. There are hundreds of coaches that would love to get an assistants job at a 1-A program; I trust TD to know who he wants from the start.
  17. Mean Green Blog January 03, 2007 A few notes on the UNT men Jonathan Jackson is still hobbling around on a bad knee and didn't practice on Tuesday, which is not good news for the Mean Green. Jackson, 6-8, 240, is another big body the Mean Green could throw at Arkansas-Little Rock forward Rashad Jones-Jennings on Thursday. The senior is a rebounding machine who always gives UNT fits. Late word out of Little Rock on Tuesday indicated that sophomore guard De'Andre Eggins was planning on meeting with head coach Steve Shields soon and could be back in time for the UNT game. That would be bad news for the Mean Green. Eggins is one of UALR's top scorers and would give the Trojans a lift heading into Thursday's game against the Mean Green. UNT was supposed to play the Hilltoppers on Saturday, but never made it to Kentucky due to the weather. The conference will likely want the game played due to the importance of the conference standings when it comes to seeing for the league tournament at the end of the year. 18. Perhaps they should offer the Boise coach instead?
  19. I believe Evans had applied for the A$M-Kingsville HC job, but they recently hired someone else.
  20. What has Harbaugh done besides lure a recruit from one private school to another? Stanford is not what I would call a hard sell. The kid may be from California? Dodge will do fine at UNT. He need not win 10 games his first year to prove it. It will take a while to un-DD the current players and fans. Ticket sales, public relations, team discipline, offensive excitement, etc. will be his first positive doings.
  21. Great to hear, thanks.
  22. If we eventually win like Southlake...let 'em!
  23. All these coaches can stay in their same homes and not disrupt their families too. Has to be a major consideration for some.
  24. Boise/OU was certainly the most entertaining Bowl. It also had a LOT of underlying importance for mid-major vs. big program.
