  1. Why couldn't RF find these guys?
  2. Are you sure you're not an OU or LSu fan? You act like it.
  3. Compared to what most 1-A's pay for a HC, UNT got a very good deal for Dodge's services!
  4. There are several BCS programs that have no upper deck and do just fine. I'll say the ones that like upper decks haven't sat in them very often.
  5. We played some fine programs and fans in Memphis, USM, and Colorado State. I'm glad we didn't have to see UCF, ECU, UAB, et al. I also agree facing any Big?10 or Big?12 team will draw better local crowds and more UNT fans.
  6. We're fightin' for a CUSA spot here in this thread, we can be friends later....
  7. I think that was the main reason so many are balking at it...most fans are again away from field level and the action.
  8. Close rivalries are good for attendance; SMUt football game this season as example. You think SMUt, or any CUSA school, really enjoys trips to Ruston?
  9. I think there are two main complaints in the Tulsa firm's design, from the drawings anyway. First having upper decks to start with (add a small deck later if needed), plus the size of the upper decks (it's larger than the lower, more desirable level). Second, the quantity of unwanted endzone seats, also upper decked! It's seen as suite-holders getting a premium location, like where the portals are now in Fouts, vs. a majority of 50-yard line season ticket holders being bumped to the upper deck. Question, if you walked into Texas Stadium, the Cotton Bowl, or TCU's stadium and could sit anywhere on the 50 yard line what level would you choose? Not the upper deck, and why? Too high and far away? Yes. Plus, upper decks split crowds, noise, and a feeling of "oneness" as a group of fans. You can't see them, they can't see or hear you; are they really there?? A single-level horseshoe design, with large sideline seating areas and a small endzone area, pressbox/suite level at the top is the desired plan favored by most fans here. See Utah's stadium as example. If deck's are needed (should not be with a 35-40K seat facility) then add smaller ones later, and only on the sidelines, not endzones. Carry on.
  10. There was a stadium marketing/fundraising group hired last year, and an online survey from them in December to fans. It was mentioned they will compile results and submit recommendations about the stadium and other projects in mid-January, then a Capital Campaign in the spring.
  11. That is a nice stadium but it cost a cool $90 million too. We're thinking $50-60 mil range, less the expense of a home locker room, and video scoreboard.
  12. I think the forum poster was just plugging in names by stats. Dodge will start fresh with every player to fit his offense/defense schemes; all previous bets and experience are off. It will mainly come down to who learns the new system the fastest and best.
  13. Agree. We need OUT of the SunBelt ASAP! Think CUSA.
  14. WKU fans do not travel well for football (see 1-AA playoffs). Nor do they even have 1-A football yet, nor a 1-A facility.
  15. Another trip to Texas/DFW (UNT) to recruit is always a plus to many conference schools. Accessibility of travel (DFW Airport) is also a perk. UNT got beat out last time by UTEP's attendance and football facility. If we replace Fouts, get baseball, and bump up attendance you'll see us way ahead of La Tech and any SBC school for the next CUSA opening.
  16. New Orleans is a much better tourist destination than Shreveport and Detroit. And the weather is always perfect in the 'Dome. Like UNT, it sometimes comes down to plain location, location, location.
  17. Love that stadium except for those exposed support structures on the outside. They should have finished it off with an exterior cover of some kind.
  18. I always do a little re-arranging when I see displays with only one UNT row. I place a couple NT items at the front of the other rows, and poof.... multiple NT rows!
  19. http://www.utahtickets.com/fls/1400/Athlet...football116.jpg One of my favorite single-level stadiums, Utah. I like the curve of the stands, all good seats.
  20. It's hard to see but I believe they do have suites between those deck levels. I'm not crazy about that stadium either but thought it was a compromise between the two styles.
  21. I don't think he had to "nag" them too much if they watched some games the last two seasons. Things were heading south fast, including donations and support for other school areas. Look at what the new hire has done, bet he's already paid for his first year salary in new donations alone!
  22. I was forced to go watch a SMUt basketball game last week (a relative performed at halftime). Moody Coliseum is celebrating(?) it's 50th year this season. Funny thing was they passed out a player poster with the insides of the AAC arena as the background (ha!). I graduated HS in that "gym" 30 years ago and it looked ancient back then, worse today. I have a new appreciation for UNT's SuperPit. Although almost 35 years old itself, the Pit still looks new and modern, a quality venue we can all be proud of. Even Okla State's arena with it's $50 million renovation can't match the SuperPit. UNT has made many mistakes over the years in Athletics but the SuperPit is one thing they did right. I hope we have the same mentality in designing the new Football Stadium. Something that 35 years from now is still efficient, modern, and fan-friendly like the Pit. Many have suggested a single-level stands facility. Most of these involve building high above ground, which could greatly increase concrete and construction costs, but so would a double-deck. I'd like to see samples of stadium ideas for consideration. One is Arizona. Single level on the pressbox side, but double decked on the opposite side: http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictu...na_stadium2.jpg http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...6lr%3D%26sa%3DG http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...6lr%3D%26sa%3DG
  23. Or like South Alabama........ http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...6lr%3D%26sa%3DG
  24. The radio announcers in the UTA game said JJ seemed surprised to learn there was no monitor at the scorers table. Note to self: add to new program checklist "ref monitor at scorer's table".
  25. I'm starting to hate that term "mid-major". They now have mid-major rankings and mid-major upsets Big school U headlines. It's actually a put-down, like not 1-A enough to be talked about in the same sentence as BcS schools. Just watch, soon there will be 1-A, mid-major, and 1-AA. It's coming.
