The floor of the SuperPit could probably hold enough tables for 1000 people.

My first time to watch a televised NT game was also against Tulsa sometime in the early 70's; I think it was at Fouts as I remember seeing Tulsa 4-wheelers with hurricane flags on them going around the track after a score. My first NT game in person was in 1975 at Texas Stadium against Houston. My friend's dad took us because his coworker's son was an OL on Houston....NT, coached by Hayden Fry, won 28-0 and I was hooked from then on.

The 2006 highlight video showed NOT a single second of the black-jersey game! Dodge made a quick reference to the new stadium, something to the effect that until it's done let's "light up" the current one. Only about half the seniors showed; Chancellor Lee Jackson was again a no-show. Most speeches included thanks to the players for the past season and past championships, and the excitement going on now with the program and new coach. Overall, a good banquet and a good kickoff to the new era.

from DMN: Nebraska offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jay Norvell joined the Bruins as offensive coordinator. ............................................ Wouldn't that be a lateral move?

I believe either Harry or illuvius32 mentioned a podcast or report late tonight after the banquet...

"It is a remarkable compliment to the type of people Al and Shirley are when they make such a generous donation to this university and this athletics department," Villarreal said when the donation was originally announced last year." It would have been nice for Vito to get a more current quote from RV on this stadium issue. Why do I feel like Vito has been in RV's doghouse for a couple years now? His articles never have quotes from the AD who has all the answers.

"Hay day" in what terms? attendance, bowls, big wins, conference titles? Fry tried to get us into the SWC, and I heard he was only a couple (private school) votes short of doing it. Fry beat Tennessee, Okla State, Houston, and several other name programs back then. He had 10,000 NT fans follow him in 1976 to Austin for our first game vs UT, lost 17-14.

$1.5 Million Football Stadium Donation Officially Given At Bb Gam

MAC? How far would that nearest rival be? -
Sounds like that was posted perhaps by a SLC friend or former player of one of the coaches. He knows the coaches work habits and appears to have had an inside look at the new jerseys and team conditioning plans. Wonder if he saw the new helmets too?

The donor/fan survey report on the stadium issue was due back to UNT mid-January from the capital campaign firm hired to fundraise. I expect we may get a tease about a stadium campaign starting in the spring at the banquet. I don't expect any firm comments about stadium construction actually happening or definite timelines until they raise enough (1/3 of $60 mil.) to float bonds for the project. Have we done that? That is the tell-all answer to the project. We do need it ASAP. 1952 Fouts needs to meet Mr. WreckingBall. As far as size of a new stadium, 30K sideline seats is a minimum, with suites and club level, but 40-45K total seating should be the goal. BUILD IT!

I was very impressed with Tune during last summer's scrimmages. I think he will do well, having a year at the college level already, and now in a passing offense.

(This is presumably to go join the U. Minnesota Gopher staff. Lewis' former TE coach at UT was named Head Coach recently and was rumored to have offered him a job there. I wasn't sure how a career TE guy was going to coach NT defensive ends anyway.).... .......................................................... Lewis leaves football staff Former Texas standout Derek Lewis has left UNT’s staff to pursue other opportunities, sources close to the situation said Wednesday. Lewis was hired by new UNT head coach Todd Dodge to coach the Mean Green’s defensive ends after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Texas. Lewis spent three seasons with the St. Louis Rams and was part of their 1999 Super Bowl championship team before starting his coaching career.

I would like to hear something about this at the Banquet Saturday!

The tenure issue may have been mainly campus wide, but his plagiarism issue was national, and a very bad reflection upon UNT.

Pretty cool interactive stadium seating chart for Nevada's Stadium ( but I agree, too much aluminum).... http://imedia.unr.edu/mackay/index.html?DB_OEM_ID=10000

The Latest: Iowa St. faces little competition for TE — 1/18/2007 TE/DL Jordan Scoggins from Euless (Tex.) will officially visit Iowa State on the weekend of January 26. And unless something unforeseen happens on the visit, he will likely commit to becoming a Cyclone. Another photo and article: http://rivals100.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=631158

Legislators review bill for new NT law school University, Dallas officials looking forward to verdict Wendy Moore Issue date: 1/24/07 The Texas Legislature will decide during the current legislative session whether to fund half the cost of building the NT-Dallas College of Law. The law school, which is projected to make its home in the historic Municipal Courts Building located at Harwood and Main streets, will cost an estimated $60 million. The City of Dallas is giving NT the Municipal Courts Building, worth about $10 million, and has committed to funding half of the cost of the renovations for the NT-Dallas College of Law, said Cynthia Hall, director of external affairs for the NT system. A bill to allocate $30 million, which will match the money from Dallas, was submitted to Texas Legislature to alleviate the remaining half of the renovations' cost. NT officials will know whether the bill passed by the end of May when the Texas Legislature adjourns. State Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, has already carried and filed the bill in the Texas Senate. A group of Texas House of Representative members, including Dan Branch, Rafael Anchia, Helen Giddings and Tony Goolsby, will carry the bill in the house, Hall said. "I think we have a very good chance of getting the law school passed this year," Hall said. Of the $30 million asked from the Legislature, approximately $3 million was requested for 2008-2009, so the school could employ a new dean and faculty for the college, Hall said. Administration will first choose a committee to select a dean for the college. "The dean will then look for faculty and an administration staff," Hall said. "The goal is to start enrolling students in 2008 to start classes in Fall 2009." The classes will start in the University Union while renovations take place at the Municipal Courts Building. The money for the renovations will come from the remainder of the money requested from the legislature, if it passes. A.C. Gonzalez, assistant city manager of Dallas, said the city is very supportive of the public law schools. "It would be a tremendous asset to the community and the city to have that kind of facility in downtown," Gonzalez said. "It provides the first public school opportunity for those of our citizens who want to further their education in law." He said the increased number of jobs created by the law school and the demand for more retail and retail facilities in downtown will help Dallas' economy. The Metroplex is currently the largest metropolitan area in the nation without a public law school, said Roddy Wolper, director of news and information at NT. "Texas Tech opened the last supported public law school in Texas," Gonzalez said. "That was in 1967. We're thinking it's probably time to open another." Hall said currently Southern Methodist University is the only private college to have a law school in Dallas, and Texas Wesleyan University is the only private law school in Fort Worth. She said she does not believe the addition of the public law school will hurt those programs, and a public law school will cost about the same amount as graduate school at a university, Hall said. "Students who want to go to law school and cannot afford SMU or Wesleyan have to go to Austin, Houston or the Panhandle," Hall said. "This will make it a lot easier for those students to complete their education in the area, and it will be much more affordable."

Howard Johnson leaving UNT post 10:15 AM CST on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 By Matthew Zabel / Staff Writer Howard Johnson, the University of North Texas provost who stirred a campuswide controversy over tenure in 2004, will leave his post to serve as a special assistant to Chancellor Lee Jackson. In a memo to his colleagues today, Johnson said he continues to look for a job as a university president elsewhere. He is currently one of three finalists for president of Florida A&M University. News reports in Florida suggest that university could name its new president as early as Feb. 1. “UNT now stands at a critical point in its development - one that will demand a long-term commitment from its academic leadership to achieve its strategic goals,” Johnson wrote in a memo. “At the same time, I stand at a threshold in my own career, where it is important to seek new experiences and perspectives that I can bring to a future presidency.” Jackson, UNT’s chancellor since 2002, said in a prepared statement that Johnson would work in the coming months to help the university improve how it addresses student access and its graduation rate. UNT President Gretchen Bataille has appointed Gary S. Krahenbuhl, formerly senior vice president at Arizona State University, to serve as UNT's interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, while the University conducts a national search to fill the position. Krahenbuhl will begin work at UNT on Feb. 1.
