Dodge's First Unt Home Game At Fouts Will Be......
NT80 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I would prefer a Saturday night game, but would take a Thursday night game if it meant National TV, not just SBC TV. Also would prefer Northern Illinois to Buffalo or a couple others mentioned. -

Did Harry's "guest" hear the date wrong? He twice said the 13th. -

Harry's special guest on the podcast heard it announced yesterday as Sept. 13. Perhaps it's for TV Thursday night? -

The floor of the SuperPit could probably hold enough tables for 1000 people.

My first time to watch a televised NT game was also against Tulsa sometime in the early 70's; I think it was at Fouts as I remember seeing Tulsa 4-wheelers with hurricane flags on them going around the track after a score. My first NT game in person was in 1975 at Texas Stadium against Houston. My friend's dad took us because his coworker's son was an OL on Houston....NT, coached by Hayden Fry, won 28-0 and I was hooked from then on.

The 2006 highlight video showed NOT a single second of the black-jersey game! Dodge made a quick reference to the new stadium, something to the effect that until it's done let's "light up" the current one. Only about half the seniors showed; Chancellor Lee Jackson was again a no-show. Most speeches included thanks to the players for the past season and past championships, and the excitement going on now with the program and new coach. Overall, a good banquet and a good kickoff to the new era.

from DMN: Nebraska offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jay Norvell joined the Bruins as offensive coordinator. ............................................ Wouldn't that be a lateral move?

I believe either Harry or illuvius32 mentioned a podcast or report late tonight after the banquet...

"It is a remarkable compliment to the type of people Al and Shirley are when they make such a generous donation to this university and this athletics department," Villarreal said when the donation was originally announced last year." It would have been nice for Vito to get a more current quote from RV on this stadium issue. Why do I feel like Vito has been in RV's doghouse for a couple years now? His articles never have quotes from the AD who has all the answers.

Basketball: Sun Belt hoops tournament moves to Mobile, Ala., in 2008 08:16 AM CST on Friday, January 26, 2007 NEW ORLEANS — The Sun Belt Conference announced Thursday that the league’s postseason basketball tournament will be played at South Alabama in Mobile in 2008. First-round games will be played at on-campus sites before the tournament moves to Mobile for the quarterfinals. South Alabama has not hosted the conference tournament since 2001. Brett Vito

"Hay day" in what terms? attendance, bowls, big wins, conference titles? Fry tried to get us into the SWC, and I heard he was only a couple (private school) votes short of doing it. Fry beat Tennessee, Okla State, Houston, and several other name programs back then. He had 10,000 NT fans follow him in 1976 to Austin for our first game vs UT, lost 17-14.

$1.5 Million Football Stadium Donation Officially Given At Bb Gam

MAC? How far would that nearest rival be? -
Sounds like that was posted perhaps by a SLC friend or former player of one of the coaches. He knows the coaches work habits and appears to have had an inside look at the new jerseys and team conditioning plans. Wonder if he saw the new helmets too?

The donor/fan survey report on the stadium issue was due back to UNT mid-January from the capital campaign firm hired to fundraise. I expect we may get a tease about a stadium campaign starting in the spring at the banquet. I don't expect any firm comments about stadium construction actually happening or definite timelines until they raise enough (1/3 of $60 mil.) to float bonds for the project. Have we done that? That is the tell-all answer to the project. We do need it ASAP. 1952 Fouts needs to meet Mr. WreckingBall. As far as size of a new stadium, 30K sideline seats is a minimum, with suites and club level, but 40-45K total seating should be the goal. BUILD IT!

I was very impressed with Tune during last summer's scrimmages. I think he will do well, having a year at the college level already, and now in a passing offense.

January 25, 2007 UNT receives huge donation Shirley and Al Goldfield gave North Texas a big boost in its pursuit of building a new football stadium during halftime of the Mean Green's game agianst Middle Tennessee on Thursday. The couple gave the UNT athletic department $1.5 million toward construction of a new football stadium to replace Fouts Field. The donation is the second seven-figure gift the school has received for a new stadium. Posted by Brett Vito at 08:11 PM ............................................................ What/when was the first stadium donation?

(This is presumably to go join the U. Minnesota Gopher staff. Lewis' former TE coach at UT was named Head Coach recently and was rumored to have offered him a job there. I wasn't sure how a career TE guy was going to coach NT defensive ends anyway.).... .......................................................... Lewis leaves football staff Former Texas standout Derek Lewis has left UNT’s staff to pursue other opportunities, sources close to the situation said Wednesday. Lewis was hired by new UNT head coach Todd Dodge to coach the Mean Green’s defensive ends after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Texas. Lewis spent three seasons with the St. Louis Rams and was part of their 1999 Super Bowl championship team before starting his coaching career.

I would like to hear something about this at the Banquet Saturday!

The tenure issue may have been mainly campus wide, but his plagiarism issue was national, and a very bad reflection upon UNT.
