  1. Interesting read if you have an ESPN+ subscription. Basically they like Chandler Morris and he pushed us above mid-point at the FBS QB position, in front of a lot of P5 programs. Still showed Stone Earle as backup. https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/40246707/ranking-quarterback-tiers-fbs-football-program-2024
  2. Not sure how they can determine this when players are still shifting around programs and some transfers have never practiced with their new team yet.
  3. Beam me up Scottie. There is no sign of intelligent life here. (sorry, I couldn't resist) In answer to your question, if I understand your question (not sure), is: Many top school's now are using scholarship offers plus non-school NIL opportunities to attract highly-regarded recruits and portal players (not already on the roster) to come play for their schools. It's not supposed to be just pay-for-play, but has turned into that. It's certainly not transparent and some schools and players have been burned by NIL deals gone wrong. NIL will soon be allowed to be offered and distributed by schools as part of the NCAA's revised benefits (revenue) to players.
  4. I trust Eric Morris with the QB room and knows what he has and what he needs for that position. Now, about that Defense....
  5. Yes, "the best" always varies by year. I don't consider Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Indiana, Illinois, et al "the best in FBS football" even though they are part of "the best two conferences" in FBS football. That is the flaw with Super Conferences. Not all members are always so Super!
  6. Wow, play me or trade me! Not much waiting around with backup QB's these days.
  7. Lol, I think it's an option the AD and coaches should explore. You have to start with where are we now on the FBS NIL food chain? Are the funds (NIL donations) sustainable and growable and really making a difference at our level? Do donations vary as players leave or depend on the program's record to spark an increase? I could see burnout on donations when players leave. It's very frustrating to fans. Does our NIL really make a difference over using the same donations towards facilities?
  8. The courts haven't ruled any such thing. The NCAA is negotiating a settlement to allow NIL, but schools don't have to provide any NIL. And I don't think we should provide NIL! Use our donations for better facilities. There are enough JUCO, FCS and DII players that would play at our level for just a scholarship. If they are good, then they can transfer out (as always anyway) to get NIL somewhere else.
  9. JUCO players and probably most FCS and DII players don't play for NIL. Hundreds of players would love the opportunity to play at our level for just a scholarship. We would get more National media for going 6-6 as a non-NIL program than as 6-6 with NIL. We could be the "Rudy" of FBS! Apply all Athletic donations to facilities for all sports and the AC renovation instead. Transfers out (portal) will always happen, but Screw NIL!
  10. Bob Tyler was another name coach failure at NT. Hayden Fry won here.
  11. "I’m a sixth-generation Texan. I grew up in a town called Plainview, which is a farming community in the Panhandle. The school district is what we call “property poor.” For generations, most of my people were farmers, but my parents were schoolteachers. Like a lot of teachers’ kids, I grew up in their classrooms. I became a good student, mostly unaware of how the lack of resources available to my schools affected the opportunities that were available to me. By high school it became clearer, especially when I ran out of math courses to take my junior year. Still, when I went away to college I was feeling pretty confident. My freshman year at the University of Notre Dame was a reality check. I’ll never forget what it felt like to get that first paper back with the first ‘D’ I’d ever seen in my life, and to realize that although I hadn’t had math my senior year, most of the students sitting next to me had AP Calculus. It took about three semesters and a lot of suffering to recalibrate to the new expectations. Fortunately, I had a lot of support from family, friends, and faculty. And, Notre Dame let me count my suffering toward Purgatory time." chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://reportcenter.highered.texas.gov/correspondence/commissioner-correspondence/h-keller-leadership-address/
  12. It's all just a money grab now. The lawyers are circling the NCAA like hungry sharks. Bankruptcy may be the only way out for the NCAA soon. Start over with a new organization.
  13. Coaching is a paid career. Playing college football is not employment anymore than junior high football is.
  14. I’m waiting for the Fan NIL. The athletes can pay me out of their NIL to come cheer for them!
  15. Facilities do matter. All the glitz of a payday will eventually wear off, as NIL donations will fade and most players won't get a huge payday. There are thousands of football players out there that mostly want opportunity to play at the college level. The higher the level the better, and we are a pretty high level on the food chain even though it doesn't feel like it. The great equalizer is still a scholarship and playing time. Each FBS still has a limit of 85 scholarships and only 22 starters. You won't get many wanting to go to Houston as a walk on, and pay their on way, to sit on a bench 3 years to maybe get a scholarship and play as a senior.
  16. He was Drum Major in the Notre Dame marching band, so he at least was inside the stadium during games! https://www.linkedin.com/in/hkelleredu/
  17. Good connection to Texas Higher Education dealings in Austin. But does he like Athletics? Looking at his LinkedIn bio he got his Bachelors in Philosophy at Notre Dame. MA and PhD from Georgetown. Lieutenant in Navy Reserves for 10 years. Drum Major in Notre Dame marching band. https://www.linkedin.com/in/hkelleredu/
  18. That's like telling UTSA alums to support the Longhorns. Different campuses, different schools. UNT-Law is part of UNT-Dallas (intentionally).
  19. Good point. Hey, maybe we should start a fan group interested in NT Athletics and getting info, newsletters and social events, etc. We could call it something like.... Mean Green Club ??
  20. Football drives the bus in Texas and College sports in general, and brings in the revenue. Our NIT basketball Title barely got any mention for us. Conference realignments and most Program revenues are based on Football. We have elevated from 1-AA Southland to Indy to Big West to CUSA to AAC in fairly short time. We have great facilities and good programs in the conference. I don't wish for the days back with Nichols St, ULM, SFA, NW St, et al.
  21. Morris went 5-7 in his first year here with mostly Littrell's recruits. He did bring in QB Chandler Rogers, our best QB since Mason Fine. We had the lead late but lost to Conference Champ Tulane by only 7... in New Orleans. We lost other games by 3, 3, 7, and 8 points. Easily could have been 9-3 with any defense. Defense is what needed fixed, and Morris went after experienced transfers on that side of the ball.
  22. NT has mostly liberal arts majors that don't care about athletics or supporting it. We don't have wealthy doctors, lawyers, or engineers as graduates that can donate large $$ like many of the P5 schools have. Yet, here we are in the AAC with great athletic facilities. We have a lot of athletic history playing upper level schools while not being in an upper level conference like the SWC. Yet, here we are in a conference with Rice, Army, Tulane, Memphis, and $mut...until they bought their way out. Still, it is surprising with such negative fans on our own quickly-fading fan board the school even sponsors athletics.
  23. NT enrollment then was under 17k. Denton population was under 50k.
  24. Your money won't buy you onto the split list. The scam will be over!
