  1. You first.... "The Cougars finished 4-8 (2-7) in 2023, their inaugural season in the Big 12 after leaving the American Athletic Conference." BTW....Your AD just got fired tonight, lol.
  2. I don't agree. Athletics at our level is pure marketing for the school. I never hear Rice mentioned, athletically or academically. Duke, yes. Rice, no. If they won't support athletics correctly, then they should just drop to DIII and stop pretending to be competitive even in the AAC, because they are not.
  3. You're at the 45 yard line in nice seatbacks; a premium seating section. You pay $600 per seat for the season, including your MGSF per seat, or $100/seat per game. Two days before the game the Athletic Dept has a Flash Sale for unsold seats. The three seats next to you go for $15 each to drunk SFA Frat guys. You're OK with that?
  4. How could they predict any team. Half our team hasn't played together before. Probably similar to the others as well.
  5. Losing Stone had to be more on him not liking his place on the roster. I thought he was considered the primary backup, so he could be called on anytime if injury occurs. Perhaps the new Freshman QB made him concerned about even being the #2 guy?
  6. That orange is not an option on that color chart either. Perhaps they can do custom colors?
  7. The DreamSeat links have a lot of stadium seating options... https://www.dreamseat.com/fixed-seating/
  8. Overall I like the uniforms...but not the winged helmet in that different darker green?, doesn't match. The retro Flying Worm helmets would look better on these. The "clean look" must be in this year, no school name or nickname. The Green in the pants and jersey seems like a brighter green in that photo too than we had before? I like the color, but that winged Oregon helmet can go to helmet heaven.
  9. The article first mentions required renovations (due to declining condition) and reducing capacity instead of building new. Then thoughts switch to perhaps a (new?) multi-use stadium and accepting naming-donors without much details on either. I don't think they know what they want to do, and really don't want to do either. Back in the 1950's when this stadium was built Rice was a power program in the Country and SWC. They rivaled the Texas program of today in attendance and media. They have been falling ever since to a shadow of a program and attendance. I wouldn't be surprised to see them end football in this NIL era.
  10. I agree. As fans, if a player was committed to playing for NT we became invested in them. We wanted to know their background, their skillsets, and supported them their whole journey while at NT each season as they grew. Now, there is no long-term commitment by players. The fans are left empty with no heroes to follow from the previous seasons. The thrill is gone. The product has changed, and not for the better.
  11. TCU revealed their 2024 uniforms today. Their fans do not like the "plain and boring" look. "Practice jerseys" was another comment according to the article... https://athlonsports.com/college-football/fans-roasting-new-tcu-horned-frogs-uniforms-for-2024-season
  12. Yes, I feel UNT is positioned well (facilities, size, and geographically-wise) to fit in a group like that. I would also see that as a win for us in these times.
  13. Walkons still have to be wanted, in order to be on the team, not just because they show interest. Athletes (now) agree to play either for love of the game (walk-on), or scholarship. That is their pay. The Band or Cheerleaders don't get paid, yet perform the same and help provide the entertainment that produces that revenue. Producing revenue doesn't require payment to someone if they are willing to play a sport for the school for some other incentive. I also started college at UTA. Soon found out it was a pitiful excuse for a University experience and transferred to NT. I went to Denton High as a Freshman and Soph so I was familiar with the school and town. NT just didn't have Engineering at the time, so I tried UTA.
  14. Dartmouth https://ogletree.com/insights-resources/blog-posts/dartmouth-basketball-players-vote-to-be-first-college-athletes-represented-by-a-union/
  15. Athletes currently are not employees, full or part time. They don't receive pay from the school. NIL is a private contract for endorsement services, not school pay either. I don't understand your debate with yourself?
  16. A job posting is not the same as recruited in the context of college athletics. They don't put out help wanted signs, they target specific players.
  17. I think of them like Oregon State and Washington State. Large, regional fan bases, but not really National brands. They will be left behind too.
  18. You weren't recruited by UNT to be a Daily reporter. You applied for the job just like a bookstore clerk in the union. You could have tried out for the football team and possibly become a walk-on. The requirements aren't anything higher than Daily reporter, it's just pure size and athletic ability.
  19. They can't. Not for entry on a college all-conference list. It's about prior accomplishments at the college level that shows potential to be the best this season. But you know that....I hope. Geez.
  20. They are not NOW employees. If they want to be employed, then they would all have to be paid, and all have to fall under employment contracts and rules, which will not happen because we can't afford to pay ALL players. That would include walk-ons, injured non-players, grey shirts, etc. And drop their free education too since employees don't get free education.
  21. The players are not employees. They are offered an educational scholarship to play sports. It's a signed agreement, but nobody forces them to take a free education, or play a game in college. Many walk-on at their own expense in hopes of gaining that scholarship.
  22. Very true. It's great for those schools that have that sports culture, but not all can or will. I have never been a fan of Title IX. I think it artificially forces schools to spend money and sponsor some women's sports (just to balance scholarships with men) that will always lose money and not draw fans. I remember when my high school in Texas started girls basketball in the mid-70's. The UIL didn't think girls had the endurance for full-court, so it was half-court style basketball. 3 girls played defense, then passed the ball off at mid-court to the other 3 girls on offense. After about 10 years it went to full court. Lacrosse is huge in the Northeast colleges, both men's and women's. It is making it's way into Texas high schools and club sports. Just like Hockey at the junior level is big here too now.
  23. On the Mean Green Sports site, under corporate sponsorship page (linked below) there is a tab on the far right labeled "partners". Then select hotel or restaurant to see those type sponsors. Not sure how updated it is. There should be many more and types as this is DFW...we need more businesses behind us! https://meangreensports.com/sports/2018/7/6/sponsorship-index-html
  24. This is going to happen in a lot of conferences in the future. Florida State and Clemson have already been asking for this in the ACC. Boise gets more revenue in the MWC.
