  1. Geez. Are you the new forum-police? It wasn't pasted in it's entirety. The original full article is behind a paywall. The portion I posted is from a thread on a public fan message board. The poster even says this is "excerpts". Do you know what excerpts are? From the thread poster: "Basically a rehash that corroborates what Dodd has already reported. Here are some excerpts:" Otherwise, do you have any comments about the subject matter? Will they merge or purge?
  2. Sure...ask Baylor why they relocated their stadium to campus...and why USF is building a stadium on campus... Sometimes I think you're not going to be happy until NT kills football.
  3. Memphis begins $220M in stadium renovations (it's still not on their campus)...
  4. Latest on OSU/WSU vs MWC. From the MWC board and The Athletic: https://www.mwcboard.com/index.php?/topic/92358-conference-realignment-thread/page/1822/#comments .............................................................. Basically a rehash that corroborates what Dodd has already reported. Here are some excerpts: Last December, the parties agreed to a one-year football scheduling agreement, helping the Beavers and Cougars secure six additional Mountain West opponents for their 2024 football schedules in exchange for more than $14 million. …. Both sides say an agreement on a 2025 football schedule needs to happen before the 2024 season kicks off. So will it? “I’m pretty confident,” Mountain West commissioner Gloria Nevarez said. “You never know with how contracting goes. It was built in anticipation as a two-year schedule. Because that’s how you mitigate competitive inequities, and we figure if we’re going to do it, it’s easier to do two. It’s not for any reason except for we had to get through June meetings, then July gets kind of quiet. (Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould) and I have been talking, and it’s just been a phone tag thing.” … “We’ll have to see if everything falls into place or we explore a different path for that second year,” new Washington State athletic director Anne McCoy said, “or if everything goes forward with the Mountain West.” Big picture, Oregon State and Washington State want to buy as much time as possible and see what happens elsewhere — perhaps, say, if Florida State and Clemson try to officially leave the ACC, that league might explore getting back to 17 members. Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes told The Athletic earlier this year that joining a Power 4 conference is the top priority, followed by some merger with the Mountain West. “It’s important to get the time to see where the landscape is going,” said Oregon State executive deputy athletic director Brent Blaylock, who represented OSU at the Vegas event. “We’ve seen the volatility of how things change. We know some of the other friction points going on in other places. So it’s important for us to just stay abreast of what’s going on.” The Mountain West, meanwhile, feels more emboldened than it did a year ago and doesn’t appreciate the image of being a backup option. The introduction of a 12-team CFP means the Mountain West champion has a path to the Playoff for the foreseeable future, while the Pac-2 can only receive an at-large berth, and the CFP deal with ESPN runs through 2032. The Mountain West also got six teams into this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament. It won’t beg for two more members. “When I first started (as commissioner), everyone was growing to 14, 16, and I thought maybe that’s where we need to be,” Nevarez said. “I’m not seeing a need now. Certainly if there’s an opportunity to make us better, I would absolutely chase that down. But I’m feeling pretty good about where we are.” … What does hang over the Mountain West is its television deal, which recently added TNT Sports as a third partner and runs through 2025-26. That coincidentally times up with the Pac-2’s window. It’d be an easy moment to make an addition. But what about departures? The Mountain West office has maintained that its exit fee ($18 million, or $36 million for schools leaving within a year) applies regardless of the TV situation, something that was brought up last summer when San Diego State danced with the idea of leaving the league. Any attempt by Oregon State and Washington State to pull Group of 5 teams from multiple conferences would be very expensive, even with a $255 million war chest leftover from the Pac-12. The football agreement signed last year lays out that adding one Mountain West school would cost the Pac-2 $10 million. Adding six schools would cost $67.5 million; 11 schools would cost $137.5 million, not including their exit fees for leaving the MW. But adding all 12 would cost nothing. The league held firm in putting that deal together, protecting everyone. The one wild-card scenario is dissolving the Mountain West, which would require nine of 12 schools voting in favor and therefore removing any exit fees. That possibility has not garnered enough votes to be an option, especially given the open desire of the Pac-2 schools to land elsewhere. Oregon State and Washington State will chart their future amid plenty of internal change. Football coach Jonathan Smith and highly-touted quarterback Aidan Chiles left Oregon State for Michigan State, and star running back Damien Martinez went to Miami (Fla.). Washington State athletic director Pat Chun left for Washington, and talented quarterback Cam Ward went to Miami. Influential president Kirk Schulz will retire next June. That turnover has made a difficult situation even tougher. No one associated with the Pac-2 [at the league’s media event in Las Vegas] could say what the future holds …
  5. Why would people over-pay to see a lopsided game like that?
  6. We had minimalistic uniforms in our past; and someone got fired for it, lol...
  7. Reminds me of Army's all-black uniforms....
  8. Sure, you have rich goobers that can buy blocks of tickets....buy no real fans that will actually use the tickets...

  10. Speaking of FSU, I visited a site that recalled their game at Fouts with us in 1976...in the snow. Yes, we hosted Florida State at Fouts Field. We should be able to get them to DATCU too! Still the best uniforms we ever had... https://www.garnetandgreat.com/2008/04/another-bowden.html Another Bowden First: FSU wins in the snow 1976 was FSU's season of rebirth under a new head coach. And no victory was more improbable than the game in which a bunch of Sunshine State kids beat North Texas State on a snow covered field. Kurt Unglaub slushed 91-yards with a Jimmy Black pass for one TD. Later, it was his 2-point conversion catch -- from halfback Larry Key, no less -- with 2:13 left to seal a 21 - 20 outcome. Listen to what Kurt remembers most about that special day in our second Unglaub Audio Extra.

  12. Their Death Penalty already ensured their elite status in college sports history. Buying their way into a conference just labels them as rich, but not actually worthy...
  13. Yes, thus they will try to get out as long as the spots exist in the SEC or Big10. Eventually (20 members?) those conferences will be deemed closed, unless they consider demotions/banishment of schools like Vanderbilt, Northwestern, etc.
  14. I don't believe being an AAU school is more consideration over strong athletics for many conferences. Rice is an example of a left-behind program with strong academics and AAU. As for FSU/Clemson money is driving them to get out, and they will continue their attempt as long as the carrot is available in the SEC or Big10. When those slots not longer exist they will be content where they are, but obviously they are being told get out and we will invite you.
  15. Ball control; too many turnovers at the end. The refs didn't seem like college level refs.
  16. It was from a portion of the interview with WSU Prez Kirk Shultz (below). The Prez and writer referenced another interview with Oregon St AD Scott Barnes and 8 total members (I couldn't find that one, some interviews are behind a paywall)... Also, one of the fan boards (MWC or WSU) also posted an article that mentioned 6 MWC additions to start, for a total of PAC-8 to meet the initial NCAA requirement of 8 members by summer 2026. It speculated the 6 desirable add-ons would probably be Boise, SDSU, UNLV, Fresno, CSU, & AFA. ..................................................................................................................................... How important is it for the Pac-12 to stay nimble or lean in terms of the number of future conference members? Scott Barnes, the athletic director at Oregon State, told me he thought the number of teams should be on the right around eight or so. Is that strategy still in play, or is that to be determined as you sort things out? I think there’s no question that we’re going to try and keep as nimble as possible. And I think you’ve written about this in the past. I mean, we’re watching what happens on the East Coast with the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Clemson and Florida State, lawsuits. And it, unfortunately, feels an awful lot like what the Pac-12 was going through two years ago when USA and UCLA left. And to me, that was really the beginning of the unraveling. https://www.johncanzano.com/p/canzano-washington-state-president
  17. Many MWC schools would love to join the PAC-2, but the exit fee is prohibitive and there is no media deal yet for the new PAC (depends on members). There is a trial merger currently. The PAC-2 only wants 6 MWC schools. A reverse merger has been considered and may be an option. The PAC-2 will decide their plan by Jan/Feb 2025. Membership in the P-3 for leftover ACC schools will be tight. The Big 12 may absorb some that have media-value but otherwise I expect $mut to be homeless again, lol.
  18. I expect the ACC will still have some remaining members (like the PAC) after being purged. They will want to retain their brand and rebuild. If they take the best of AAC it will hurt us. If they merge into the AAC it will help us.
  19. I've seen this movie before: Division 1-A and 1-AA.
  20. Nebraska is no longer an AAU institution, but otherwise your delegation makes sense. The question will certainly come up from $mut...like with the PAC breakup, if there are 2-3 ACC schools left behind will the ACC try to keep the brand name and reload?
  21. When the ACC implodes (and it will) this will directly impact the AAC and UNT football.
  22. This article is dated July 13. It's basically a re-hash of the same article/info, on the same link (glorycolorado.com), from the previous July 11 article. Nothing new. Click bait.
