Hayden Fry pushed the name Mean Green in marketing, uniforms, and fundraising. He changed our nickname to Mean Green when he was hired as coach/AD in 1973 to make us more unique. Eagles were still our official mascot. But Mean Green was also used by NT athletics even before Fry….

Our defense is still Pitiful!

He was rated very high out of high school for 2022-23.... • Ranked as the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee and the nation’s No. 32 best center prospect by 247Sports.

I agree with most all you say, but I don't think Coach has his team here yet. Everything is not yet fixed (ie defense). If he can elevate the Defensive play (ie new DC and bigger, better players) to match the Offense, then we will have something! Sorry, we are still a work in progress!

Agree.

UNT is 1-5 in San Antonio.

Check out the viewers for the mid-week MAC and CUSA games. Surprisingly high, but not much other football on then.

Yes, as NT fans we have seen several years of this style play. But for other teams, and their fans, they don't really understand what is happening. Their team struggles and the game becomes difficult for them to score. They blame their own players and coaches, usually with no credit to us.

The raised floor at Williams Arena, also known as "the Barn" in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was designed to improve sightlines for fans and create a buffer zone between the court and the fans: Better view: The raised floor allows fans to see more of the action on the court. Buffer zone: The raised floor creates a separation between the fans and the court. Historic feature: The raised floor is one of the few remaining in the United States and contributes to the arena's historic feel. Unique feature: The raised floor makes Williams Arena different from other arenas and memorable for visitors. The raised floor is about two feet above the ground, which means that the first row of seats are below the court and fans are roughly at the players' knee level. Only head coaches are allowed on the court during play, except for officials and players who are actively playing. Williams Arena is one of the oldest basketball arenas in the country, having opened in 1928. The arena is home to the Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team, which competes in the Big Ten Conference. It used to also house indoor football practice, tennis, indoor track, and hockey. The building was remodeled in 1950. Renamed in honor of Dr. Henry L. Williams, U of M football coach from 1900 to 1921, it was divided into a hockey arena on one end and a basketball arena with a seating capacity of 18,025 on the other. From 1950 until 1971, it had the largest capacity of any collegiate basketball arena in the country. I thought he looked confident in his minutes vs Wayland. Very athletic, defended well, made a basket and two free throws. Didn't he redshirt with Creighton last year? He only played in an exhibition with them but no minutes in a season game. I think they transfer to get more playing time. I doubt he wants to sit another year. I'm afraid he'll be gone again. 6-10 and athletic needs more minutes with us!!

Loriant needs to be starting over Newell. It's not even close.

Is the AAC not a major conference? "It was the first home nonconference loss for the Gophers against an opponent from outside of the major conferences since they lost to Milwaukee on Dec. 23, 2015." https://www.startribune.com/gophers-mens-basketball-north-texas-dawson-garcia-mike-mitchell/601180379

Gophers Rally Falls Short in First Loss of the Season https://gophersports.com/news/2024/11/13/mens-basketball-gophers-rally-falls-short-in-first-loss-of-the-season

Yes. The usual, Minn fans want to fire their coach theme, lol.

From the Gopher board.... "Normally similar to a bracket buster, but I am guessing if these two were in a first round brack pair more people would have picked the Mean Green. Until Ben learns to fast break, we are going to have zero offense. 0 fast break points again tonight. If teams can get set, it likely be a long season unless we amp up the 3 PT shooting percentage. Turnovers: Gophers 13 Mean Green 8 Pts off turnovers: Gophers 4 Mean Green 18 Steals: Gophers 1 Mean Green 7 Fast Break PTS: Gophers 0 Mean Green 9 Points in the Paint: Gophers 16 Mean Green 28...Mean Green tallest player that played was 6'9" All gopher players seemed frustrated and no energy. Mean Green were ready and hungry and deserved the W."

First game ever in the state of Minnesota too.
-
Stone did a great job on defense in the first half. But he was held out of the second half for some reason, maybe no offense?
-
Oh, yes, I forgot about Indiana. I saw the 3-0 on a press release this week, lol.
