Memphis, Tulane, USF Turn Down 2PAC....Staying in AAC
NT80 replied to SUMG's topic in Conference ReAlignment
Sources: Utah St. set to become 7th member of rebuilding Pac-12 "Utah State is set to agree to a deal to become the seventh member of the newly formed Pac-12, sources told ESPN. The move comes amid a dizzying day of realignment, which saw the Pac-12's interest in a handful of AAC schools get rebuffed and the Mountain West expected to retain commitments from key members UNLV and Air Force. The offer to Utah State and the expected acceptance in the near future means that they'd be the fifth school from the Mountain West to join Oregon State and Washington State in the newly formatted Pac-12. They join Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Colorado State, who have announced they are going to the league."... https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/41406647/sources-utah-st-set-become-7th-member-rebuilding-pac-12 -

Temple beat Utah State last weekend 45-29. Utah State just now accepted an invite to become the 7th member of the PAC, lol. Always nice to beat another G5 conference's team.

Memphis, Tulane, USF, UTSA commit to AAC amid Pac-12 interest "Some of the highest profile targets of the Pac-12's expansion have rebuffed their interest, as Memphis, Tulane, USF and UTSA all publicly committed to stay in the American Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon. The schools announced their intentions on social media, which solidifies the AAC in the short term and leaves the six-team Pac-12 in flux as it searches for at least two more members to complete it's rebuild." "...But the reality is that a significant financial risk loomed if any of them decided to join the Pac-12. AAC Commissioner Tim Pernetti has been aggressive in attempting to leverage private equity money to help boost cash flow in the league." https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/41403363/memphis-tulane-usf-utsa-commit-aac-amid-pac-12-interest -

I think they had like 30 players, and many starters, skip their Bowl game. I think they also took a big hit in the Portal.

Sources: Mountain West making push to keep remaining schools Sources told ESPN that the Mountain West is amid a significant push to solidify its future by offering guaranteed money to the schools, including one-time payments to formalize their status as league members going forward. Those include large payments to both UNLV and Air Force to stay in the league and also significant payments to all the other remaining members. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/41402364/sources-mountain-west-making-push-keep-remaining-schools -

These AAC offers need to happen! The MWC today is trying to lure remaining members to stay with financial guarantees. -
I have not seen UTSA and Texas State mentioned together for the PAC. Some have mentioned Texas State as an upgrade replacement for UTSA into the AAC if they leave. 9 members is a better conference number because it allows for 4/4 home/away conference games.

The new AAC Commish is going around visiting with all the league school’s individually. Not a sign of anything, just a cheerleading session for the conference admins. Rah! -
What some are predicting for the Wyoming game

vs BYU = 10 carries for 32 yards vs Idaho = 14 carries for 45 yards vs Az State = 6 carries for -30 yards Not a problem. -

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the Rocky Mountains. AAC schools are mostly in large metro cities. Pullman, Corvallis, Ft. Collins, Boise, and Fresno are not easy places to travel to. Large charter jets for football will be limited in getting into small airports. For smaller olympic sport teams, there is limited to no scheduled service to some of these destinations. They would have to make several connections or go to a large city airport and bus a distance. -

Oregon State AD: Pac-12 will look to add new schools quickly

The SEC basically kicked out Tulane... Tulane University left the Southeastern Conference (SEC) at the end of 1965 for a number of reasons, including: Playing a more national schedule: Tulane's president at the time, Herbert Longenecker, said the school wanted to accommodate its diverse student body by playing a more national schedule. De-emphasis of football: Some say Tulane had de-emphasized football. Budget deficit: Others say the university was cutting scholarships due to a large budget deficit. Over-signing of players: Some say other schools were over-signing players in each recruiting class. Record: From 1953–1964, Tulane's record was 28–82–8, and they only won more than one SEC game in two of those seasons. Tulane joined the American Athletic Conference in 2022. -

Why not? ...And why do the GMG.com Admins feel the need to banish these AAC Conference Football Membership threads to the junk pile? -
"Within the proposal put forth by Clemson and Florida State, the term of the grant of rights would also be reduced -- potentially as early as 2030 -- to better fall in line with the expiration of TV deals in the Big 12 and Big Ten." https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/41307506/acc-clemson-florida-state-renew-discussions-revenue-distribution-model

Yes, Tech got smashed by G5 Washington State, lol. They are trying to forget about getting beat by a lower level opponent! Their fans still showed up. -
