Well, for those that have wanted to see ranked teams coming to Apogee, be careful what you ask for. The One with the master plan has a sense of humor.

Good that Eric will finally be watching a UNT game this year. He and his partner on the SB Nation Underdog Podcast bag on our defense each week, blaming losses on the D. Ignorance.

I work with a woman who’s son played high school ball with the twins. She said they were known for being overly aggressive and were heavily penalized back then. From her description, I feel like they have gotten more disciplined.

Many of us knew @ntsumgspe, AKA Cary Lumkes, through Mean Green football. He was an avid fan and quick to make friends with everyone. He built a unique collection of selfies posing with opposing team mascots. Cary was on the steering committee of the Dallas Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association, but also would host football watching parties in Collin County when I wasn't able to do it myself. In Collin County, he was always the voice of "And that's good for another Mean Green...FIRST DOWN". Similarly, Cary was a fan of hockey. The Chicago Blackhawks were first in his heart, but the Dallas Stars were not far behind. He also frequented the Allen Americans hockey games (ECHL) and played for the Phantoms in an adult hockey league, that happened to play at the Allen Event Center where the Allen Americans play. Unfortunately we lost Cary in April of last year. I've since been working with the UNT Alumni Association on a way to memorialize Cary. I'm proud to say that on St. Patrick's Day of next year, the Collin County Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association will be hosting the First Annual Cary Lumkes Memorial UNT Night of Hockey with the Allen Americans. I'll post links to purchase tickets to this event once the link is available. The Allen Americans will be taking on the Tulsa Oilers at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center (formerly known as the Allen Event Center) in Allen. I hope you are able to join us.

Looking for some football to watch tonight with UNT ties? Marcus Trice and Brandon Jackson are on the high school coaching staff for the undefeated #2 Lovejoy Leopards. Game is being carried on ESPNU tonight (11/4), yet my cold butt is sitting in the stands.

I wholeheartedly agree. These streamed games are a little trickier to set up, but that fact could also drive additional business from people that don’t want the hassle.

I saw confirmation that the Denton Chapter is not hosting football watching parties for the rest of the year. We do have folks from Denton County come to the Collin County watching parties. Just take the highway of your choice to US 75 (Central Expressway) and we’ll be at the Fuzzy’s at Exchange Parkway.

Unless you are talking about the green helmet with the white full diving eagle on both sides, you are describing a helmet they haven’t done. Closest thing was in the bowl game against Troy when they sported the green helmets with the chrome wings.

There was an interesting discussion on The Ticket this morning regarding the change in college football and coaching since the portal. Player relationship building and maintenance are now a very important part of coaching. Apparently that wasn’t Gary’s strong suit. More of an authoritarian.

Just heard from the owner of Killarney’s that they are shutting down. I’m looking for another place to host in Collin County.
