...tailgating!
-
Tip for ordering from meangreengear.com (advanced-online). Their warehouse is off 635 out toward DFW airport. If that's not too much of a haul for you, you can save money on shipping by picking up at the warehouse. I've done this several times.

Yes, no, and yes.
-
I stumbled onto these today. I don't recall seeing a link posted to them before. Sorry if I missed it.
-
I'm concerned that all these activities are going to make the new stadium smell go away too quickly. :-)
-
For those of you in and around Collin County, I went and picked up a stack of the new posters, the new schedule magnets, and koozies and left them for you to come get at the new Rudy's Barbeque in Allen next to Cabelas. They are free and they'll have them in the country store area. Come and get 'em! Be sure and give Rudy's some business while you are there. They are proud UNT supporters with several UNT grads on their management teams. We are working with them to set up some game watching parties this year at the Allen location. Go Mean Green and Go Rudy's!
-
We already have an official kickoff chant (that I don't hear people do). It's supposed to be "Go" held out with talons in the air until the ball is kicked, at which time we say "Mean Green".
-
I wonder if they'll unveil the new uniforms bit by bit like they did last time.
-
That's not all that different than the chant from the fight song: U! N! T! EAGLES! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Put the Ahhhh in front of that and I think you have a winner. It might be easier for people to hop onto as well since they already know the words and we all ready have arm jestures to go along with it. I've often thought that would look cool on TV (with the arm jestures) at away games when the band didn't make the trip. If everyone was in unison, it would remind me somewhat of the stuff the KSU fans were doing last year. (We'd need more fans at away games, though.) I like where you are going, Rick. I know you've been selling that chant for at least a couple years now. I like it...I just like using the chant from the fight song better. My two cents.

Okay. I'll bite. Am I kidding you? No. My opinion is that the problem with our fanfare is that it's missing the fan part of it. Your original question was "What prompts?" I thought I'd help out and provide a link to a video that was intended to teach people the traditions at North Texas. Once you were aware of what the "prompts" were, you chose to complain about them. I still contend the problem is the fan response. Let's look at the examples you provided. The IOWA cheer is not significantly different from our NORTH...TEXAS...NORTH...TEXAS cheer, except for the fact that the IOWA fans are more into it than our fans. Blame it on the cheer leaders if you want, but that cheer seems primarily reliant on the crowd. Then there's the Alabama clip. UNT does the same freakin' song! It's that same Dr. Who and the Tardis song that just about all schools do. We just have different words that go with it. Don't try to blame our response on the Green Brigade because you can barely even hear the Bama band because of the FANS. Then there is the Wisconsin thing. I'm not sure how that really fits in as a prompt or for getting the crowd involved. Most of the fans seem to be standing around with their hands in their pockets, though you can hear some clapping along. Then they lead into their fight song. As you know, North Texas does the march around the outside of the field and plays the fight song and the "Go Green, Go White" prompt (Fly Like an Eagle). People clap along with ours too and some sing. From a crowd response, not a lot different from Wisconsin. Maybe we need a "prompt" thread instead of hijacking the uniform thread?

Here is a link to a video on UNT fanfare. I think the Goooooo Mean Green on kickoffs is the least used by our fan base, unfortunately. http://www.meangreensports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=1800&id=38547&DB_MENU_ID=&SPSID=586400&SPID=70831&DB_OEM_ID=1800 Regarding in game chant and cheer traditions, IMHO, the problem isn't a lack of fan fare stuff like the videos SilverEagle posted. I think the problem falls back on us, the fans. If we only had the same level of passionate top-of-your-lung support and participation in our fanfare. Instead folks want to moan about how much they don't like "Fly Like an Eagle" instead of avidly yelling the chants that we are supposed to be participating with. Tying this back to what the thread is supposed to be about, the uniforms in this video are probably about as close to what we'll have this year as we've had in the past. At least the helmets anyway, except with a white face mask and possibly kelly green instead of dark green.

Okay. We can all wear matching shirts to the golf tournaments as well. ;-) -
Going To Miami For North Texas vs. FIU

I now have a fellow MGC member going with me. -
If you can get to the game, go to the game. Nothing like being there in person. The team needs to see our support. Mean Green Stadium is a great alternative if you just can't be there in person.

I'll admit...you drew me offsides.

Great photo of new Stadium in "The North Texan"

Meh. IMO, all these fish-eye photos make the stadium look much smaller than it feels in person. -
Feedback for Upcoming Texas Monthly Article

1. #43 in honor of Patrick Cobbs, currently with the Miami Dolphins. 2. I tailgate in the Mean Green Club lot right behind my SUV. If I can find a spot to back up to grass, that's preferable. I grill up something unique each time. My favorites include bacon. 3. Lighting up the tower green on the administration building after each Mean Greem win. 4. Jr. Mean Green Club members and their parents get to go down on the field after the half and line up to slap hands with the players as they return. 5. The Pour House in Denton, especially if it's a televised away game. 6. The late 80s win (though officially a loss) over the Texas University Longhorns. It happened while I was at UNT. If we only had instant replay back then... -
Also don't forget the endzone seats and recent grad seats. I also believe we are still going through seat selection.
-
Keep in mind that they are still working the seat selection process for non-MGC members. Their work still isn't complete yet. What a beating. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes and I'm sure they are glad they don't have to go through this extensive of a process every year.

Me too. With the exception of one home game against Houston I went to in the late-90s, I unfortunately hadn't given UNT much of a thought since I'd graduated. Noticing in the TV guide that UNT was playing Colorado State in a bowl game was the turning point for my fandom, personally.

What an Alabama Writer has to do this Season

Game #1 for UNT is on Sept. 1st, or do you want to argue about that too? -

I agree that "Mean Green" is the name that is most commonly used to represent our school. I think it is just rubbing some of us the wrong way in that you are stating as fact that it is incorrect to refer to our athletic teams as the "Eagles". You don't seem to have much to back that up and anything anyone brings up to the contrary you dismiss as some sort of cultural tip of the hat to the history of the university. "Eagles" did seem to start being used less around the time of the most recent logo branding along with the birth of SOW. Up until 2005, the endzones at Fouts still had "EAGLES" printed in them. Maybe you'll point to that as being the year of the big change, though I never heard of the university making "Eagles" officially incorrect anymore as was questioned in an earlier post. -

Hmmm. If that's what you believe, you should start a campaign to have the lyrics changed in the fight song and see how far you get. -
