    The UNT Alumni Association is hosting a Fall Reception at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano on Tuesday of next week, October 13th. President Smatresk will be at the reception. He will also give a speach, but most of the event will be mingle time. If folks want to have civil fact-based dialog with him, this could be a good opportunity for some brief face to face time. The deadline to register is Tuesday of this week, October 6th. Register at https://www.untalumni.com/regionalreceptions2015 . In the interest of full transparency, know that though I voluntarily sit on the Collin County steering committee of the alumni association, I'm not employed by the university or anything like that. I didn't want anyone jumping to any conclusions that I might have an alterior motive for dropping a plug for this event.

    Theme for the night: Misery Loves Company. A few more folks showed up after this pic was taken. We had more than half the restaurant occupancy taken up with GREEN tonight. Other than the game performance and results, I hope all had a good time. Congrats again to the prize winners. We'll do this again here for the Marshall game in 3 weeks.

    My point was that RV did the Eagles recognition in. We still had "EAGLES" printed in the end zones at Fouts early in his watch. He didn't like Eagles, and removed it from everywhere he could. That's my understanding of the story. I agree no one recognizes Eagles anymore (even though Scrappy is an eagle, there is an eagle on our helmets, at mid-field, in our fight song, etc.) Thanks RV.

    Still the Eagles. Mascot = Eagles Nickname = Mean Green My guess is that the AD controls the media guide and that's why you rarely to never hear references to the Eagles or "UNT" within game productions. http://125.unt.edu/tradition/traditions-spirit

    Post if you think you might come to this. We'll be out in the open with the rest of the restaurant patrons, which could result in some growth in our group. Last week at Sauced, there was a restaurant patron in the main part of the restaurant keeping an eye on the North Texas game while eating and could hear our cheers coming from the event room. He was an alum and stuck his head in the room to see what was going on. Needless to say, we welcomed him in with open arms. He gave me his name and email address so that we could let him know the next time we had a watch party, snagged a schedule poster (I bring several to these events along with NT pens and whatnot), and went about his way. The more that show up, the better of a time we have. Plus it's great to hear the loud response when @ntsumgspe shouts "And that's good for another Mean Green...". (I also miss having @emmitt01 leading us in the UNT Fight Song following touchdowns from a couple years ago.)

    Unless the Plano location has really gone down hill, they'll still have Fairview beat out. Plano's selection has been impressive the few times I've been in there. For a long time, Fairview was only getting in the products that Plano wasn't able to sell.

    I stopped by the Rally House Texas in Fairview on the way home today. I'm sure they have my picture behind the counter labeled "Crazy guy that comes in periodically to ask why we don't have more UNT stuff." Nonetheless, I keep coming back. If I see growth, I always try to buy something. I saw growth today. A while back they stopped using the UNT stuff to frame around the manager's office door and moved it to a single end cap. Today, I see that it's grown to more of a section, located in the middle of the store. No longer are there only odd sizes either. They do still have an oddly large assortment of infant and toddler stuff, but that's only about a fifth of the North Texas merch they have to offer. I bought a pencil holder and walked out. I then walked back in to thank them for growing the section. They said they are still working on getting more.
