  1. for eff's sake...no one "hates on" Matt Stone. of course he's never said a bad word...we're the only mid-major D1 program to offer him a scholarship the pure truth of the matter is that he was at best a low D1 recruit and has never really developed much beyond that. I guess that's not his fault, but the simple fact is that he has contributed very little outside of hustle to this team in his four years here. Stone is a career 27% 3pt shooter, and a career 36% FG shooter. he's not a plus defender. if he's the 10th/11th guy in rotation...an experienced break-glass-in-emergency type, I dig him...but if neither Mason nor Cotton can take Stone's minutes this season that's an indictment on them/our recruiting. take that as "hate" all you want. the fact is Stone is a tier below what UNT should be expecting from a roster spot, let alone. a rotation player
  2. Wright and Floyd are exactly the ballers I was hoping they'd be...Massie might have more offensive game than I assumed...Lorient might be more than just an energy big. awesome start
  3. Massie is basically listed at the same build as both AScott and TBell…our starting PFs for the last four seasons. That’s at least part of the reason I see Massie as a fit at our 4…so much of our defense is built around switching, denying entry and team rebounding…so we’ve never needed 6’8” 250 at the 4. I agree Vice is such a big wildcard. If it’s literally just him and Sissoko sharing minutes at the 5 and giving say 12/12 collectively, this squad could be a monster and legit ten-deep. this level of pre-season speculation is pretty darn fun. We are not have like three dudes on the roster we’re pretty well confident in knowing what they’ll give us…Walker, Sissoko and Stone…everyone else is kinda up in the air. personally…I think Wright is knocking on the door of 20ppg…with Floyd, Josell, Massie all around double-figures…balanced by Walker, Newell and some center combo giving 7-8/game.
  4. sure...but you can't play 13 dudes a night nor just hand out PT to someone not ready/not contributing just out of fear that they'll bolt next season. bigs especially tend to develop slower so I'm going into the year assuming Vice and Smith get very little run. based on nothing but intuition, I do think Mason will contribute significantly this season...he just looks college game ready.
  5. I'm torn. aesthetically I'd like to see a bit more tempo and scoring...but for the last 3-4 seasons this team has had a true identity unlike anything else in my time watching the program, despite coaching changes and massive player overhaul. "UNT Basketball" legit means something to our opponents. tough to want to stray too far from something so hard-nosed and largely successful.
  6. entirely based on previous season stat lines and presumed fit, I mentally have Massie starting at the 4...he seems to bring a little bit more offensive game than Newell, and while he gives up some inches he did average more boards and he's pretty range-y and like Walker, averaged over a steal/game last season. plus assuming Vice and Smith aren't contributors this season, Newell and Lorient off the bench can give enough height to sort of combo man the 4/5 spot...neither is really a 5, but together you can get a rotation with Sissoko
  7. Vermont doesn't suck. They won 28 games last season and seem to have brought back a good portion of that team.
  8. https://vandymania.com/
  9. are they still playing with just one ball on the floor at a time?
  10. 20+ years of the same exact thread. maybe...just maybe...UNT football just is what it is. more than likely this team finishes 8-4 on the heels of a 5-7 season. they'll make a bowl game somewhere. they'll do so with one of the most entertaining offenses and quite possibly the best offensive player in program history. replace the DC, recruit the hell out of Chandler Morris, DT and about 15 D-1 defensive transfers and this team is a conference title contender.
  11. and presumably, both teams went 15 deep. probably best not to read too much into it one way or the other
  12. Tulane have the best fit in all of football
  13. 3/4ths of this board have definitely been blocked by an ex on instagram
  14. he quit the exact same way 3/4ths of our roster did. get over it.
  15. it makes sense that @Coffee and TV stayed in Marfa, but I would've had @UNTLifer as a Marathon man.
  16. maybe stop trying to ban all the books? I'm sure every Fortune 500 company has as an interview requirement of 1000 words on the lessons of Beowulf before hiring a new data analyst personally if I was in a hiring position and came across an illiterate Ivy League grad, I'd be doubly intrigued because they sure as shit must be really good at something.
  17. add to that if you've installed managers who can't motivate, why are they in leadership positions. I'll never understand everything about subsequent generations (like...why the hell are they bringing back the white calf-high sock with shorts? we perfected socks with the no-show...at most the ankle-high...it's mad ick, yo) but most of my interactions I've noticed kinder, more emotionally developed people than I was at that age and with that a better sense of self-worth and value...so I can understand how just being plugged in as a cog in an entry-level position is disquieting.
  18. so do corporations have no responsibility to adjust expectations to meet the demands of a changing work-force? so much of the actual pertinent part of this thread seems to operate from a pretty dated idea that employees are "lucky" to have jobs at all. employees are a benefit to the company. full stop. if a company has been doing something for 50 years and now finds that doesn't work, the default shouldn't be to just blame the kids or just blame the colleges...that's lazy thinking...the companies/corporations themselves have to adjust as well.
  19. and in three months these same "bosses" will be complaining that "nobody wants to work anymore"...all while doing nothing to adjust pay scales or modernize work environments to a changing landscape and workforce. just another let's blame younger generations for our own inadequacies and failures article...from Fortune, too, of course...back of the toilet bowl reading choice of 9 out of 10 finance bro douchebags.
  20. all the more reason to get now what he can/was promised.
  21. GMG OldHeads - "the AD needs to do something to better engage the students" AD - engages the students GMG OldHeads - "gosh, can they turn that hippity hop bebob down? what's wrong with some Lee Greenwood?"
  22. they're VERY mid. for every new player UNT added this year, I could give you a band from the same era and/or with a similar sound better than The Killers.
  23. have you bought your away Victoria Fontenot #11 volleyball jersey yet?!?!
  24. you don't think in 20 years your $110 Grayson Allo jersey will have some real sentimental value?
