  1. Few things whip my ass more than AC/DC... I'm an indie music junkie so I like Quoner's idea of splicing Icky Thumb and Seven Nation Army...add to that "The Prayer" by Bloc Party or something by The Strokes...probably too obscure however. For a combination of laughs and "oh my God I can't believe they're playing that's" we could play the bridge to "Tyler" by the Toadies..."I found a window in the kitchen..." Those of you who know this song are loving this idea.
  2. I think the public answer is he wanted to go into a grad program that wasn't offered at SMU...thats the transfer loophole that allows him to play this season. Whether thats the REAL reason he left...not sure.
  3. And don't forget about Maryland basketball whipping up on somebody 132 - 57 back in '99... ...ohhh... ...damn.
  4. This is how you use a scholarship to add depth!!! Dez will push Ben for minutes...maybe not a starting role but its who finishes a game thats more important. I also like the idea of allowing Dez to slide to the two every once in a while and let him be a scorer as well...would make a very quick backcourt. I don't think you redshirt Josh White because of this though...IMO he needs to get in to a couple of games to acclimate himself to the speed of the college game...as it stands now, the PG job is his in 2008 so he needs to be ready and game tested. I love this move...a hired gun with no extended commitment. Gives us a very deep and versitile backcourt as talented as any in the belt...and rivaling most of the state outside of Austin and College Station. Great job JJ.
  5. Just curious if anyone has any information on him...he's not listed on the most updated roster...and before anyone says he's a transfer and wouldn't be on this roster, Evan Fentriss is listed. Hoping he's still here.
  6. I say we use the blunt pitchforks
  7. Kid: My mommy says smoking is wrong. Nick Naylor: Is your mommy a doctor? Kid: No NN: Some sort of clinical researcher? Kid: No NN: Then she doesn't really sound like a credible expert now does she. Swamp leeches...everyone check for swamp leeches...what? I'm the only one who got hit? Phone's ringin' Dude Max: Nice nurses outfit fella Peter: These are OR scrubs Max: O, R they? Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the war room! But he's gonna see the big board! And whatever Bill Murray says to Scarlett Johansson at the end of Lost in Translation
  8. A traditional power in the Sun Belt Conference took a huge step backwards last season when the Ragin' Cajuns went 9-21, 7-11 in conference and the second worst record in the SBC. Head coach Robert Lee is paying for the sins of his predecessor, Jessie Evans, whose NCAA violations forced UL-La to vacate the majority of their 2004-2005 season, including an SBC title and NCAA tournament appearance. Since then, the Cajuns have failed to put together a winning record and time may be running out on Lee. Projected Starters PG. Maurice Barksdale 5'11" 188 Sr.SG. David Dees 6'3" 194 Sr.SF. Elijah Milsap 6'5" 204 Soph.PF. Courtney Wallace 6'8" 252 Soph.C. Abray Milson 6'9 241 Sr.Frontcourt: For the Milsap brothers, rebounding is a family tradition. Two seasons ago, Paul Milsap led the nation in rebounding average as a senior at Louisiana Tech. Last season, kid brother Elijah (6'5" 204 Soph.) led the Cajuns on the boards, pulling down 7.3 per contest. The younger Milsap also finished third on the team in scoring (12.4ppg) en route to Freshman of the Year honors in the Sun Belt. Milsap had five double-doubles, seven double figure rebounding games, and sixteen double figure scoring games, including a career best in the opening round of the SBC tourney with 21 against UNT. Milsap's scoring numbers should increase with the departure of Ross Mouton (6'7" 200) and the 17.1 points he contributed, but its his rebounding numbers that have the greatest potential to go up, as the thin UL-La frontcourt may force Milsap into significant minutes at the 4. Courtney Wallace (6'8' 252 Soph.) has the most potential to make an impact up front. Wallace averaged 4 points and 2.4 rebounds in his freshman campaign and should see plenty of PT, no longer sharing time with Val Hart (6'8" 218) and Adam James (6'9" 250). Joining Wallace up front will be senior Abray Milson (6’9” 241). Milson started eight games last season, averaging 2.1 points and 2.0 boards per contest. The remainder of the Cajun front court is very thin. Tyren Johnson (6’7” 182 Soph) saw limited time last season as a freshman and La’Ryan Gary (6’7 205 Soph) is one of four non-qualifiers from the 06 recruiting class who will join the Cajuns as sophomores this season. Gary is expected to help fill the scoring role left by Mouton. Backcourt: Depth will not be an issue for the Ragin Cajuns’ backcourt, with ten players jockeying for three starting spots. David Dees (6’3” 194 Sr.) returns after leading UL-La in scoring last season and garnering third team all SBC honors. Dees is an aggressive, attacking guard who does most of his scoring inside and rebounds well for his size (17.4ppg, 5.3rpg); his lack of a consistent outside game (25% 3pt%) maybe the only thing keeping him from being a dominant player in the Belt. The leading candidate to replace Rhett Herbert (6’1” 160) at the point is Maurice Barksdale (5’11” 188 Sr.). Barksdale sat out the entire 2006-07 season with a broken wrist after starting 15 games in 2005-06 and leading the team in assists (75) and three point field goals makes (29). Also returning is sophomore Willie Lago (6’0” 176), who was pressed into action early last season with the injury to Barksdale. Lago was steady in 14 starts, averaging 3 points and 1.6 assists per contest. An early candidate for Newcomer of the Year considerations is Corey Bloom (6’4” 185 Soph.). Bloom, a transfer from U of Houston, is an explosive, slashing wing who finishes well, but has limited range. Bloom found few minutes in a crowded backcourt with the Cougars, but should be the first Cajun off the bench this coming season. Three non-qualifiers will look for minutes as well; Randall Diagle (5’11” 180 Soph.), Brandon Dison (6’5” 170 Soph.) and Damon Forest (6’3”180 Soph.). These three, along with La’Ryan Gary were recruited in 2006, failed to qualify, but enrolled at Lafayette without scholarship and will join the team with 3 years of eligibility remaining. Diagle has the best chance to make an impact at the point. The 2007 recruiting class is minimal with the return of these four, and for some reason, includes two more swingmen. Chris Gradnigo (6’6” 200) was a 3 star Rivals recruit and Travis Bureau (6’6” 185) is a local product who will likely redshirt. Walk-on Stephen Dees (6’1” 194 Soph.) rounds out the backcourt. Overall: This is a very young team…three seniors and no juniors, and because of that Robert Lee may have a bit more leash, but UL-Lafayette fans expect their team to be competing for league titles. This team won’t. Dees, Milsap and Bloom are very talented players, but none have range past the 19’9”. That said, Mouton and Herbett’s shooting ability stretched defenses and allowed Dees and Milsap to get to the hoop for buckets…nobody on the Cajun roster is a proven outside threat so those lanes may not be there this year. Wallace’s numbers should improve, but there is still very little up front. If Lee can keep the core of this team around, and keep his job, the Cajuns will be back near the top in two years.
  9. If I were Moore and Goode I would just walk around to teammates where I might be able to create some funny combinations: Once you've had some Dick...either Casey or Nathan...maybe you're hungry and you go stand next to Reggie Fish...perhaps prepared by Chris Baker or Grant Cook. After dinner, maybe Moore and Goode want some entertainment...so they go stand next to Ramon Broadway. In the end tho...after lots of Dick and Fish...Moore and Goode want what we all want...some DeMarcus, Jamar and Jermaine LOVE
  10. Dammit...put my picture up
  11. They may give us something to work with:
  12. I dont think this is saying that if Meager is awful, Papa Todd will stick with him...to me this is saying that Meager won't have to worry about competing for his job from series to series like last season. I'm afraid of this too. I agree that if we do lose Vizza...there are other QBs. I felt that if after 2 weeks there was this much compitition between a 4th year junior and a true freshman...that Vizza would continue to develop and by midway through the year, chances are good he'd be at a level well beyond Meager. Now, if Meager is even mediocre...Vizza rarely sees the field...and Meager has the inside track to start in 08...then add Riley to the mix in 09...Vizza may choose to go somewhere he feels he has a better shot of playing. Its not Vizza quiting...just a victim of circumstance, like Jevan Sneed.
  13. Guess i'll also contribute my opinion to the actual topic as well: Offense: Brock Stickler Defense: since I don't think Colt playing well will be a surprise...give me Desmon Chapman adjusting well to safety and really pushing Kartay Agbottah for time
  14. Agreed. Somebody repost the football on the helmet picture
  15. Meager has also tossed 14 career interceptions...how long til he surpasses that total? With the expanded passing attack...I say about midway through the 3rd quarter in Norman.
  16. I have a rather extensive vocabulary...yet I'm an idiot without Microsoft Word and those squigglly little red lines.
  17. QB - Starter: Giovanni Vizza, Backup: Daniel Meager - As many on here have put it...if a true freshman, with 2 weeks with the team is neck and neck with a player entering his 4th season, go with the kid and let him mature. I have never been a fan of DM so perhaps my bias is setting in...but I think Gio has the highest ceiling and ought to be given a shot. TB - Starter: Jamario Thomas, Backup: Cam Montgomery - I am very concerned at the lack of coverage Jamario has gotten in the practice notes...and the occassional mention of him "resting his hamstring." I would love to see Jamario prove 04 wasn't a fluke, but my confidence in him is waning. That said...I like the what I've heard about Cam...and Micah Mosely I think has the potential to eventually be a star...I was very high on him when he got here and he's made some plays in practice. Outside WR's - Starters: Brandon Jackson and Brock Stickler, Backups: Roderick Johnson and Sam Dibrell - I love Brock's size on the outside and I'm glad to see it seems he will be getting a chance to show what he can do...should be a solid possession type reciever...Brandon should have a good senior year. Also put Sam Roberson's name in the back-up rotation, but Roderick has made plays and impressed and I think the Vizza to Dibrell connection will be a great threat here for years. Slot WR's - Starters: B.J. Lewis and Breece Johnson, Backups: Casey Fitzgerald and Korey Washington - Two true freshman going against OU safeties and linebackers makes me nervous...especially with Breece being as wirery as he is...I think he'll eventually be the best out of this group of freshman. Casey will see lots of time and seems to be our best deep threat. Tackles - Starters: Matt Menard and Robert Peachey, Backup: Matt Tomlinson - Weakest part of the line...hoping for a lot of quick pass plays b/c speed rushers could have a field day here. Guards - Starters: Adam Venegas and Esteban Santiago, Backup: Ajani Banks - I think Santiago has tackle size...don't know about his mobility...but throw Tyler Bailey in here and guard is very deep and I think Ajani should be starting. Center - Starter: Chad Rose, Backup: Kelvin Drake - Best part of our line...gives us the luxury of redshirting JJ Johnson and I think walk-on Blaine McBride may turn into something if he can put on 15 to 20 lbs. DE's - Starters: Jeremiah Chapman and Blake Burruss, Backup: Eddrick Gilmore - Lots of hype surrounding Eddrick...missed first 2 weeks of practice though and may be a bit behind. I've been encouraged by what I've heard in the transitions of Charlie Brown and Ryan Davenport adding depth on the line DT's - Starters: Montay Stevenson and Joseph Miller, Back-up: Isaac Thomas - I like what Stevenson gives and Miller and Thomas seem interchangable as run stoppers. With the weight Draylon Ross has put on, I'd like to see him slide inside...Stevenson started as an end and moved to tackle as well. Redshirt either Scroggins or DeSoto. OLB's - Starters: Maurice Holman and Brandon Monroe, Backups: Tobe Nwigwe and Craig Robertson - mix in Germaine Dawson and this is the deepest part of our defense and there is no excuse for this unit to be tired in the fourth...I am very excited about our linebacking corp MLB - Starter: Colt Mahan, Backup: Derek Mendoza - Mahan did more with fewer opportunities than anyone else on the team last year. CB's - Starters: Latif Nurudeen and Antoine Bush, Backup- Dominique Green - concerned with the size of Bush and Green. S's - Starters: Aaron Weathers and Kartay Agbottah, Backup - Desmon Chapman - Weathers is a stud...I bet once Chapman sees some real game time at safety he'll adjust and win the starting spot
  18. Been saying this all off-season...Colt should be starting in the middle...he's a cerebrial player with a nose for the ball whose a bit more athletic than Derek Mendoza.
  19. I am already a fan of the paranthetical phrase anyways...but when it brings the substance as this one...man...thats great.
  20. Im sure Dodge2007 will be on here monday and name Meager starting QB, 3/5's of the starting O-Line and the next in line to replace Pope Benedict XVI. Did you know Danile Meagers tears can cure cancer...too bad DM has never cried. Can't wait to see what Vizza can do in Norman
  21. Agreed...but for every Rodman and Walker there are 20 guys at 6'8" 200 filling the benches of the SBC averaging 2.2 points and 1.8 rpg...and for the record its not the 6'7" or 6'8" thing I have the problem with...its the 195 lbs...even Rodman and Walker were at the least 220 in their playing days. If anyone can come up with tape on this guy I would appreciate it...but my impression is that his role on the team is going to be as a body...and per a previous post...I think we could find a body in the form of a walk-on...either a football player or a pure walk-on. I don't like the idea of using a scholarship solely for depth...or if you do...aim bigger, and perhaps shorter term...I know Jackson and Muse didn't pan out, but I'm still a fan of the JUCO ranks for a banger...and one you don't have to commit 4 years of 2.2 and 1.8 to. Again...I really hope my impression is wrong and this guy is the next Rashard Jennings-Jones rather than the next Jermaine Green
  22. 2007 Recruiting class: Josh White 5'10" 167 PG FreshmanTristan Thompson 6'5" 185 SG/SF FreshmanAdam McCoy 6'4" 190 SG/SF JuniorKendrick Hodges 6'7" 195 "PF" FreshmanGeorge Odufuwa 6'8" 240 PF Sophomore Will sit out 2007 after transfer from ASUWhite will see minutes behind Bell at the point. Cooley has sainted Thompson and I hope he's right...he'll push for starting minutes at the 3. McCoy is an excellent outside shooter who should back up the 2/3. Hodges just signed yesterday...see corrisponding post for views on him. Odufuwa transfered from Arizona St. and will sit out...but will start at the 4/5 in 2008. Signed another point guard named Ryan McCoy but he failed to qualify. We still have one scholarship available for 07...but I really hope JJ holds it for an 08 player...the chances of finding an impact player at this point for 07 a very slim...see corrisponding post on Hodges.
  23. My thoughts exactly. This is a Sun Belt recruit...not a top 60 recruit. I think it puts ALOT of pressure on JJ to find a legit big man to play with George next season...a front court of Odufuwa, Howerton, Stewart and Hodges doesn't really excite me. Maybe this kid will do what Stewart hasn't and...um...eat...but still you think he'd max out at about 220-225...and that makes him marginal power forward size. To me this feels like burning a scholarship to round out a roster...and I'm pensivly disappointed. Hope I'm wrong.
