  1. I mentioned in a previous post my appreciation for Marilyn Marin...and while those particular teams still would've been good, they wouldn't have been great and Hedlund would not have the prolonged success he has had without Marilyn. As for Chris...what goes without mention too frequently is he easilly could've "upgraded" programs when JJ took over...if Deginald Erskin and Jason Miller landed scholarships at UT and OK State, respectivly, Davis would've had no problem transferring to a top tier program. Takes a lot of class to honor your commitment like he did, especially in the face of his teammates leaving
  2. I am a million times on board with this idea...but do the guys have to wear Kelly Green slacks with a white button down? I'm not against it, per se, just thinking those pants are going to be hard to come by...leading to posts complaining that "you can find red pants for SMU...but why no Green? Our AD sucks" and that would get tiresome very quickly. Also, I'm in for the bricks...I can donate one to the UNT 92 Fan bricklaying foundation
  3. Chris was a very nice player...Brad was a stud...but Marilyn was absolutely dominant, (my parents were barely alive for Ken Kelley). Marilyn was hands down the best player in the history of UNT soccer and an amazing person to boot. Congrats
  4. I saw your roster...no way Kelvin Drake's speed ought ot be 95
  5. I think my old youth minister would be very anti this line of thinking.
  6. Stereotype? I haven't showered since Sunday
  7. Fair...but you understand the crux of my post...we've been waiting for the "big announcement" for some time...and I am legitimatly afraid that IF we don't see or hear of progress sometime very soon that it is becomes increasingly more and more difficult to live up to the deadline promise that Papa Todd is using as a very effective recruiting tool...and a coach who ends up "lying" (whether intentionally or unintentionally) screws both himself and the school. You're right...he is wrong that there certainly won't be a stadium by 2010...but the fear that should RV not deliver and the UNT program has essentially death penaltied itself is a legitimate one
  8. Many of those "others" have "known" about the stadium since RV took over. I have the utmost faith in RV and Papa Todd to deliver...but I also don't think we can't blindly dismiss Green Dawg's comment. He is absolutely right that IF there is no stadium by 2010...or atleast 2011...UNT has pretty much screwed itself for 5-10 years in recruiting...and there would have to be a leadership change, either head coach or AD, in order to attempt to save some face. It is clear that whoever this Green Dawg is that he is just attempting to light a fire on the board...but just because the guy isn't cheerleading UNT doesn't make him wrong.
  9. Just watched a BBC doc on the Glastonbury Music Festival in England...you'd probably have to be a music fiend and/or dirty hippy like me to really enjoy it, but I'm just throwing it out there. Also...don't watch it with you kids.
  10. I always had a little thing for Annika and the pink panther Paula Creamer.
  11. I am a propponant of Welfare...I am also a much bigger propponant of making DRASTIC changes to the system so that the above mentality is completely irradicated.
  12. Often the answer to such questions is much closer than you think.
  13. Here's their formula: • National title … 25 • Title game loss … 20 • National semifinal loss … 15 • Elite Eight loss … 10 • Best record in conference's regular season … 5 • 30-plus wins in a season … 5 • Sweet 16 loss … 5 • Conference tournament title … 3 • AP first-team All-American … 3 • Losing in NCAA second round … 3 • Player in top 10 of NBA draft … 2 • NCAA first-round win as a 12-16-seed … 2 • NIT title … 2 • AP second-team All-American … 2 • 20-29 wins in a season … 1 • NCAA tournament berth … 1 • Postseason NIT berth … 1 • AP third-team All-American … 1 • NCAA first-round loss vs. 12-16-seed … -2 • Losing season … -3 • Ban from NCAA tournament … -3 Seems a fair formula...I'm not sure how many losing season we've had since 1985 but by my calculation we're just +4 (2 20 win seasons, 2 NCAA's) . Anymore than 1 losing season (which i know we have) and we're in the negatives.
  14. There in lies a major part of the problem. Fruits, vegetables and really anything of any real nutritional value is expensive. If you only have $100 a month for groceries you are forced into buying cheap and subsequently fatty meats, simple carbohydrates and starches in order to stretch your budget as far as possible. If you do get any veggies they're frozen (significantly reducing their nutritional value) That said...simply raising the monthly food allowance for these two would only increase their buoyancy. Perhaps with food stamps ought to come some sort of nutrtion course. The course, of course, would cost tax payer money (which I've learned is bad) but in the long run should cut down on their medical costs (which is good) Ohh...and if we do decide to add Puerto Rico as a state, but at the same time decide that we still only want 50 states...I'll have no problem with letting Ohio become a free agent...I mean when Columbus, Cincinati and Cleveland are your major attractions...that state is such a shithole.
  15. Over the Rhine is a really cool band...sort of a Norah Jones-esque lead singer over some good piano work. Their song "Lifelong Fling" is going to be my wedding song. This is what we were discussing right?
  16. You improve by competing against better compitition. If you want to be upset at someone...be upset at the tournaments that are granting her the exemptions.
  17. Egalitarianism - a belief in human equality especially with respect to social, political, and economic rights and privileges. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you all are one in Christ Jesus (Gal.3:28). My egalitarianism has nothing to do with guilt.
  18. I waver on whether or not this should be prosecuted as a hate crime...my rationale for not doing so is that he felt it would be more difficult to secure convictions in the face of the evidence that exists that these men associated frequently with white people, had white friends and dated white people. The defense would simply parade ex-girlfriends and friends and steer the jury to only thinking about race rather than the horrible murders and rapes. The four main perpetrators' charges should be enough to secure max convivtions. I do have a problem with these blogs that have been posted that suggest that this crime isn't recieving "mainstream media" (the most tired of tired-head terms) attention because the victims are white. The idea that any major media outlet has an "anti-white bias" is insane...just wait for the next pretty, rich white girl to disappear on a Caribbean vacation. You said its got to be hard for these families to hear the details of the crime in court...yet you want to add on to that by making them hear them everytime they turn on a TV or radio too?
  19. Anybody have any more information on Dan Holt and Sterling Carter? Both these guys seem like a big step up in quality and size from who we typically bring in as walk-ons (250 lb O-Linemen, 230 lb D-Linemen). Even if these guys can't compete at a college level they significantly improve practices.
  20. According to your tastes I'm now attempting to trace our lineage...does this make us brothers...or am I sort of an uncle to you? It gets so convoluted...you're the expert...could you help me out?
  21. Bo is destined for the D league for a while...he's athletic and tough enough for the NBA, he just doesn't have the jumper or the point guard skills. Give him two years and he should find a spot as a back-up point guard some where. All that said...I'd much rather have him than J.J. Barea.
  22. You would get 23 more fans in the gates at Fouts. The rest of the tailgaters will just pack it up and head to Tavern.
