Roll Call For The Snake Pit. And Will It Be Packed ?
Censored by Laurie replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Wish I could make it...if someone could organize a good 1950s ra-ra chant ala Hoosiers you would be my new leader. Or if you go Dennis Hopper bat-shit crazy. Either or. -
No Scrappy will ever top the Scrappy that was Tyler Richardson.

Perhaps I should clarify before I'm accussed of calling you a racist. The point of the edit was to show that it isn't much of a stretch to change this argument into the same discussions that were taking place during the 50s and 60s (70s, 80s, 90s & 00s in the Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and parts of Florida and Texas...basically the South in general) concerning race and civil rights issues. I think our greatest celebrity board member even called this the Civil Rights movement for our generation. And, just for kicks, to throw religion back into the mix...with about a 20 minutes to refresh my memory with J-STOR I promise you I could come up with a few dozen sermons that attempted to justify and rationalize slavery with scripture I am really sorry that you feel this way.

Football Team Drug Tests Not Isolated
Censored by Laurie replied to Keith7's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually its probably because he has done nothing to improve a golf team in the past 7 seasons. A golf team located right in the heart of one of the largest AJGA membership bases. But...yeah...maybe its the weed. -
Oh...and any word on why the other Collin didn't play? Figured after more than a year between games he'd be itching to get back out there and JJ would reward him for his commitment. Is he still struggling with the shoulder?

Questions, Comments, Concerns: White-Johnson backcourt - 2 assists, 22 shots, 4 turnovers. Yes, they shot well...50% from the field, just over 50% from 3...but that stat line concerns me greatly. Even with Ben last season UNT had a negative assist to turnover ratio (336 assists, 466 turnovers; Ben and Dez were the only two players with a positive ratio). Perhaps this will sort of peformance will improve once Collin returns, but two shoot first point guards...especially two shoot first point guards on the floor at the same time, really worries me. You can't be terribly successful when you have five guys trying to create their own shots. Adam McCoy - He logged 18 minutes and only took 3 shots. Was it a matter of him playing too passive or was he not getting touches? Tristan Thompson - What was the main cause of his 6 turnovers? Ben Knox - I would love to be wrong on this kid. Does anyone see his ceiling exceeding Justin Howerton? If not, I don't see the purpose of red-shirting him. Throw him into the fire now, even if it is only in garbage minutes or situations of severe foul trouble and get him a bit more college game speed experience heading into 09 and give us an additional big tall body this season. If he looks like he could possibly develop into a go-to guy by the time he's a junior or senior, then perhaps use the red-shirt, but it doesn't make sense to me to tie up a scholarship for 5 years on another Howerton Howerton - I'll take 3 offensive boards in 11 minutes from him any day...if he understands his role as garbage man he has the strength and athleticism to finally be a factor. How serious was his injury? I'm very pleased with the play of the rest of the frontcourt...excited about the increase in athleticism and if Howerton can provide the bulk/garbage man/enforcer role, this frontcourt could be great. Other random things I like - Held them to 33.3% field goal shooting, 29.4% from 3...it seems from reading your first hand reports that the defensive intensity is up...and I think that will be really important with a smaller line-up. 18 offensive rebounds...if you're going to take a bunch of jumpers, there will be times when you're going to miss...and having people who can buy you second and third shots is such a great luxury. I hope that continues. Any feed back from people who were there would be greatly appreciated

What Changes Would You Make?

I don't know why Dodge needs assistants. -
Do you have any proof that such an unsubstansiated rumor is un-true. Until you do stop being so definitive about the boards pure speculation. At least not with out a

Projected Starting 5
Censored by Laurie replied to LittleMeanGreenMan's topic in Mean Green Basketball
You...listened... Chris, I do like Hogans...and was perfectly happy eating a bit of crow last season b/c I really thought JJ was throwing away a scholarship late last season. That said...yes, I do think that 2.5ppg and 3.0rpg is rather mediocre...I also think that 6'7" 195 is pretty small to be running out there for too many minutes a game at the 4, despite his toughness and work ethic. My hope is that Hogans can put on some smart weight, maybe getting him up to 215 or 220 while keeping his athleticism...I think, unlike Harold Stewart, Hogans has the frame to put on a few more pounds. -

I would love this line-up if you switched out McCoy for Thompson, and maybe Tramiel for Odufuwa. I think either McCoy or Dennis are best suited as sixth men, guys who can fill it up off the bench quickly. I think Thompson has tremendous upside, but I still hold out hope that McCoy could be a star here for a season. Upfront I'd feel a lot better with 6'8" 240 off the bench to play big minutes at the 4 and 5 rather than 6'7"-6'8", less than 200 lbs..plus it would mean Howerton is competent enough to start. I still think you'll see White starting at the one, sliding to the two with Johnson replacing Dennis, McCoy and Thompson rotating at the three, Tramiel and Odufuwa up front with Howerton, Hogans and Stewart all fighting to be above mediocre for extra minutes
