  1. Reggie Lewis* was really fast in that game *attempting Reggie Lewis line of humor for the second time within a one month period. Was unsuccesful the first time around...yet I will continue to issue Reggie Lewis jokes until I am acknowledged
  2. I'll take an extra pass from this group rather than a forced shot with someone wide open underneath...it shows that Josh and Dom are trying to become point guards, now they just need to learn the appropriate situations
  3. I'm sorry, but I've been hearing the same excuses for Howerton for the past 3 seasons. He's a senior now and it needs to stop...he hasn't developed past the point where you can stick him in the middle for 10 minutes a game and have the following 3 expectations - 1. At least 3 balls will just bounce out of his hands 2. He will leave the game with no fewer than 3 fouls 3. He will make one play, whether its a put back or a block, or draw a goofy looking charge that will make this fan base say "hey...he might be coming around." He has to play this year...and hell, he probably has to start...but he's a career 2 and 2 guy...and you're not going to get that much more out of him unless he learns how to catch and how to control his gumby-like body. Yes he hustles, yes he works hard...probably has a lunch pail...but the game has just not clicked for him...and if it hasn't by now I dont hold out much hope that it will magically at some point this season. Other things that may need to be put to bed - A Johnson-White backcourt...and especially a Johnson-White-Dennis backcourt...at least against a line-up rolling out 3 athletic 6'5"-6'7" wings who can all shoot lights out. Josh White can't contest a jumper from James Anderson...so even if there was good defensive rotation last night (which I've been informed was certainly lacking) the guys defending are just physically incapable of hastling a 6'5" shooting guard. A good segue: PLAY ADAM MCCOY! 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 3-5 from the floor, 2-3 from 3 (only player last night to shoot over 25% from 3)...all of this in 12 minutes. Add to that he's 6'4" 190, strong and arguably our best athlete. This is a game after he went 3-4 from 3...it appears that he's found his perimeter stroke...SO FIND OUT...if he struggled last night he would've just been another guard added to the list of struggling shooters (10-46, 3-17 from 3 for White, Dennis, Johnson and Thompson). The most troubling thing to me however is the lack of a true point guard...and I think this will end up killing this team this season. A quick example - in 2006 ULM was successful with a very perimeter-oriented team that got at least 85% of their scoring from their guards...but they had a solid floor general named Brandon Roberts getting these scorers the ball in the right spots...Roberts was hurt last season and with essentially the exact same guard rotation ULM turned out to be one of the worst teams in the conference. I'm not saying that our struggles this season will be that drastic...however our shot selection plays just as much a role in 33% shooting as does just an off-night...everytime I heard TT's named mentioned I knew a shot was going up...Josh seemed to really be forcing his shot late in the game...I mean, one hit the side of the backboard...these aren't good shots and with his and Johnson's handle and quickness they should be able to draw defenders and free up teammates more frequently than they do. Good rebounding.
  4. Which post should we have fed last night? Odufuwa wants to work 10 feet out, Howerton can't catch and Hogans offensive game is limited to put backs. Keith and Q got plenty of touches last season...but this year unless Howerton proves he knows how to simultainiously close his hands around a 29 inch diameter ball we really wont have a post threat.
  5. He should've been eating a while ago
  6. I'll agree with the intensity...but there are some glaring issues this team needs to address.
  7. OSU is rolling out 3 athletic 6'5 wings...we're rolling out 3 guards under 6'2". White, Johnson and Thompson are struggling with their shooting...McCoy is 6'4", strong, athletic and is 1-1 shooting in this game and has proven he can heat up quickly...there is no reason he shouldn't be out there unless he is in JJs dog house for some unknown reason
  8. Is Josh just heaving shots in the general direction of the basket now? And I'm getting really impatient waiting for Adam to get on the floor
  9. hank isn't really leading on, but are these threes at least contended?
  10. Amen. TT is struggling...every time I hear his name I just know its going up in a shot
  11. Fouls
  12. FIU over Monmouth without Alex Galindo or Josue Soto. Freshman guard Mike Dominguez goes for 22. Arkansas State giving it to Lyon College 46-16 at the half. Monroe down 13 just into the second half against Mississippi State
  13. FAU will probably be without the service of all conference forward Carlos Monroe. A couple of Jarvis's new freshmen look good, but without Monroe I doubt they have a chance. Monmouth just played FAU to within 3...should be an good guage to see where FIU is, though they played their opener w/o Alex Galindo and Josue Soto...not sure if they'll be back for this game or not. Troy can't shoot as poorly as they did against UAB.
  14. Thought itd be on KNTU...but I'm getting sweet, sweet Shanice instead.
  15. Strong...to quite strong
  16. My guess would be that it was in reference to the Dutch...thats also why Hofstra is the Pride now rather than the Flying Dutchmen. Oh Yeah: FU Hakim Warrick and your block of Michael Lee's baseline 15 footer!!
  17. Not even offensive line coach Vance Vice...I hate that son of bitch
  18. I think RV should offer Utah State's OC the OC position here...and run tape on that conversation...and then run a podcast.
  19. Great call back. I was a big Todd Day fan back in the day.
  20. He's a sophomore. Tap the breaks.
  21. Wondered about that after reading the box of your game Friday. Hudson when healthy will probably slide right back in...but could Green be fighting for minutes?
  22. I certainly don't want to come off as excuse-making-guy...and I'm not happy with an 0-5 opening night...but here are a list of excuses as to why this isn't an awful night. 4 of these games were competitive against comparable, top mid-level programs. LA Tech will be greatly improved this season once they blend 4 D-1 transfers, including Magnum Rolle, a top 20 post when he signed with LSU a few years ago. UNI is near the top of the MVC. NC State will be highly competitive in the ACC, Houston same in C-USA...and UAB is good, but Troy should've been able to hang with them...but for a team that lives and dies by the three, 6-34 will more than likely mean die most nights. Teams were missing some key players. The most notable for me was UNO ability to stay with NC State without the services of forward Kyndall Dykes. ULL was without point guard Randell Diagle, wing Chris Gradnigo and forward Emmanual Adiefe. Western Kentucky was without guard A.J. Slaughter, and post D.J. Magley only played 6 minutes. Again, I'm not trying to justify an 0-5 start, especially with 3 of those loses on home court...but none of these should really be labelled as bad losses...save for maybe Troy.
