Proof of that is that we're about 50/50 in winning the rebounding battles this season. -
Vito Blog On Current State Of Men's Basketball

This is the key stretch for this team. The West is bunched together...1 game seperating 1 from 7. UALR and ASU are both at 2-1 in conference and they're our next two opponents (and ASU has to travel to Denver before they play us...never a fun trip). ULL is also 2-1, but we have the head-to-head thus far...and they go on the road for two this week. Win these next two games at UALR, home for ASU and we could be sitting pretty atop the division with our most favorable stretch of the season to follow (home vs. UD, FAU, @FIU, home Troy)...lose and its a mighty big hole to climb out of. -
Might need to show a bit of zone in the 2nd half to make sure Washington doesn't drop 50

Dennis' Future With Unt Uncertain

Just need some more of the other Collin. Hope it wasn't one of those flash in the pan shooter's nights. -
Arkansas-Little Rock @ Western Kentucky Middle Tennessee @ South Alabama New Orleans @ Arkansas State Denver @ UL-Lafayette Florida International @ Troy Union College @ UL-Monroe Top two games are definently of the most interest...WKU just blew the doors off Troy while UALR struggled to get past ULM...right after losing to Rice...UALR could quickly find themselves on a UNT-like slide as they head for a matchup together next week. Both MTSU and USA are on mini-winning streaks...but this game is probably bigger for USA as they have already lost a home game to WKU...losing two home games to the top two teams in your division, needing to win on their floor later in the season, would make the season considerably harder for the Jags. UNO/ASU is an interesting West division game...for UNT's sake an ASU win would be nice to keep their division foes conference records bunched together...UNO wins, goes to 3-1 in conference vs. UNT's 1-2...plus a head-to-head victory already and thats a steep early hole to dig out of. Randell Diagle returned two games ago for the Cajuns...he scored 16 @ Tennessee, then 24 @ LSU, only a 2 point loss for ULL and the first time all season they had Gradnigo, Bureau and Diagle together in the backcourt. ULL is about to be scary good. FIU snapped a 6 game losing streak with a win over a bad Fordham team...but more importantly Alex Galindo made his season debut, scoring 19. Galindo is the first of a massive list of MIA players for FIU to return...center Russell Hicks and PG Josue Soto were expected back around the same time as Galindo...no word on Tremayne Russell, J.C. Otero or Nikola Gacesa, key players who have all missed time for the Panthers. I really don't care about that last game. As for UNT/Arkansas...even with the loss of Collin Dennis I think we match-up well with the Hog's backcourt...and JJ's love of the Dom and Josh backcourt won't kill us in terms of size match-ups as UA's guards Courtney Fortson and Rotnei Clarke are both 6'0" or less. My concern is how on earth we might slow down 6'9" 240 Michael Washington who is currently averaging a double-double for the season (15.9ppg, 10.4rpg)...UNT has been dominated in the post it's last two games by UTA's Anthony Vareen (19 points on 8-11 shooting) and Tommy Moffitt (17 points on 7-10 shooting) and MTSU's Desmond Yates (25 points on 10-13 shooting)...and all three of these players are smaller than Washington. Once a source of pride...UNT hasn't won a rebounding battle since it's last win over ULL. The insertion of Harold Stewart into the starting line-up helped (7 rebounds, 5 offensive vs. MTSU, but man he needs to make those bunnies) but he needs some more bulk up front than what Tramiel can provide. If Odufuwa is healthy I think he's the best frontcourt compliment to Stew vs. UA.

Bret Vito agrees...and would also like to point out that UNT was 1-11 last season and gave up 45.1ppg...119th out of 120 FBS schools

Something Is Missing....

Who is Marquis? Are you thinking Marquis Mitchell, arguably the best on the ball defender in JJ's tenure who also didn't really find his way out of JJ's doghouse, ala Adam McCoy? Or did you mean Dominique...for anyone who felt he was developing into our PG, review the last 20 seconds of the UTA game. This isn't the year. We have talent, plenty of talent...enough talent to win us a game over the likes of an MTSU tonight, or a WKU or a USA later in the season on the merits of our talent alone...maybe Collin, Josh and TT all get hot on the same night and we even blow the doors off someone...but we'll come back the next game, shoot in the 30s from the field and lose to Troy. Needs: 1. Point guard. Josh is a scoring guard, Dom a combo who would be lethal coming in off the bench. I've heard mixed reviews on Brister, but at 6'3" 215 he'd be a really nice fit next to 5'8" 165. 2. Leadership. I don't get to see the games save for the shit feed from MGS, but I haven't seen anyone really take control of this team. Someone needs to step up and be vocal, call out a player after a poor shot or errant pass...be the first to pick up a teammate after taking a charge, ect...last year it was Ben Bell...he filled needs 1 and 2 and his loss as not been addressed. 3. Glue. We have 8 capable scorers, but nothing that binds them into a coheisive offensive unit...conversly we don't have that guy willing to use 85% of his energy on the defensive end locking up the opponent's best scorer...I hope that's what JJ sees in Shannon Shorter...or possibly Collin Mangrum...a guy who when you look at the box scorer he has just five points but played 30 minutes b/c of all the intangible things he brings to the court. Hopefully we get one of those talent games tonight...a win is a win and these needs can't be addressed in January and February. -
Great success considering this team has only one senior and is dominated by underclassmen. Must be the youngest swimming and diving program in the country

Honestly...its the way some of us our able to rationalize and deal with this shitty world we live in. Some people...some people turn to religion, some people turn to family, some people turn to whiskey...and some people turn to humor. For another great example, look at the football board...Quoner, Tasty, Green Lantern, Eagle1855, Green P1 and/or myself are all knowledgable and perfectly capable of maintaining serious football conversation...however when you're running out that abortion of a football product we all could curl up in a ball with a bottle of Jameson or break out the rosary beads and pray for Riley Dodge to be the next Doug Flutie...or we can take everything that pains us in life with a grain of salt, make a flippant remark, and go about our life. Nobody here is cheering on this snipper, or whatever it is...didn't even read the story...but please get off of this holier than thou horse you've been on of late concerning the way some of us decide sort through all the crap in our world. To hazilly paraphrase the great Lewis Black: "As soon as wee lose our sense of humor, the terroists win." -
I. Agree.

I have never really been a big fan of the NFL...I don't have a rooting interest in any team, save maybe for San Diego b/c I want to see L.T. succeed. In fact, at no point this season, or even last and maybe further back than that, have I sat down and watched an entire NFL game. Hell, if you combine all the minutes of every game this season that I've watched either in passing at home, or at the pub ect...it probably would add up to 2 or possibly 3 total game minutes. With that said... CHAMPION, BITCHES!!!!!! I JUST WALKED ALL OVER YA'LLS BUTTS!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 11-2 IN THE REGULAR SEASON...AND ONE OF THOSE WEEKS I DIDN'T EVEN SET MY ROSTER...THOUGH...TO BE FAIR...I SHOULDN'T USE THAT AS AN EXCUSE B/C I BEAT ONE OF YOU SUCKAS WITHOUT EVEN STARTING AN ACTIVE QUARTERBACK!!! HA! MY SIGNIFICANT FANTASY SPORT OMNIPOTANCE DEMANDS YOUR REVERENCE. WORSHIP BEFORE ME AS THOUGH I WERE EQUUS!
