  1. maybe? I mean, I think Edwards is better than Stone, but...and I can never seem to reiterate this enough...you don't always start your five best players. not sure why that seems so hard to grasp for some.
  2. oh for sure. I think Aaron Scott is a great example...15-20 years ago he's pretty much just a SF on a mid-upper tier college basketball team...now he's squarely a PF and I could see him playing some 5 this season.
  3. it could be a luxury, but I don't really think we "need" any more size than what is already on the roster. looking across our AAC foes and really the entire college basketball landscape, save for maybe the absolute elite programs most everyone is running out at least 3 if not 4 guards around a "center" who really is more of a classic power forward. my assumption on the starting line-up, at least early on, next season: 1. Rubin Jones - 6'5" 190 2. John Buggs III - 6'3" 185 3. Matt Stone - 6'4" 205 4. Aaron Scott - 6'7" 200 (that feels small...he at least plays bigger) 5. Moulaye Sissoko - 6'9" 240 that's plenty of size across the whole floor, especially the way they team defend and team rebound. I anticipate we'll still use a pretty tight 8 man rotation...Allen the Ole Miss transfer is 6'8" 230 and will likely be the primary 4/5 back-up...if Morgan gets his line up to something like 2ppg, 2rpg in 20 appearances, I'll call it a win...Edwards I'm assuming will be the primary bench scorer with Moore growing into a contributing role throughout the season. no clue on Cotton. with all that in place, my priority with the open spots would be an upgrade to Stone at the 3...an experienced tough 6'5"-ish guard who rebounds and shoots 35%+ from 3 and can play some PF in a small line-up. maybe then a wirey 6'7"-ish high school kid...raw with some upside...I think we're looking for one more immediate contributor and an upside project with the final scholarships
  4. feels like a massive gamble. in two seasons at A&M, dude has managed 1 minute of 1 game...in the '21-22 season before being red-shirted the rest of the way, and then didn't touch the floor last season, I'm assuming for injury reasons? apparently his mom played at UNT?
  5. does that include the dimly lit chair in the corner that Jerry Jr. likes to watch from?
  6. it has nothing to do with my feelings...just that most (well...apparently most) have adapted their language in the last 20 years to recognize that some terms commonly held as acceptable, in jest or otherwise, 20 years ago are no longer so. Huggins, on air, used a slur...twice...and in such a way where it sounded very casual and probably a part of his everyday vernacular. I'm not calling for his firing, but if he is fired he only has himself to blame.
  7. we lost four starters, 48 of our 64 points per game...75% of our scoring from last season, plus our head coach. I know everyone is still stoked on this program moving forward, but I also think "rebuilding" is fine coming from our beat writer who is only responsible for reporting, not cheerleading.
  8. we've added four now, the three transfers and Cotton...so if scholarships are still 13 I think we have three to offer Returning 1. Jones 2. Scott 3. Sissoko 4. Stone 5. Moore 6. Morgan New 1. Cotton 2. Buggs 3. Edwards 4. Allen
  9. agreed on the assists, which is why Edwards looks to me like a great off-the-bench candidate...can handle like a PG, but is out there looking for his offense in spurts. I liked what I saw of Moore, too...but in those limited minutes he wasn't really looking to distribute either (to be fair, he was out there maximizing his scoring chances in 2 minute end-of-game stretches). my assumption with the roster as is now we'll see a starting line-up of Rubin-Buggs-Stone-Scott-Sissoko with possibly Moore working his way into the starting five, unless Stone can get that 3-pt percentage up into the mid-upper 30s
  10. and Saban isn't winning national championships with UTSA's roster of 20 year olds. I'm not arguing that coaching doesn't have value.
  11. no one shows up to watch Saban. the players are the product, the talent and the entertainment, and as such, they deserve a piece of the pie. I'd much rather this flawed system than the exploitative one of the past.
  12. right...100K people show up every saturday just to see what kinda moves Nick Saban has on the sideline. dude puts on a show...I mean I jump outta my seat every time he holds the play cards up to his mouth so no one can read his lips. pure entertainment.
  13. I'm very intrigued to see what FAU does this year. I believe most of the big tourney runs in the past...George Mason, VCU, Loyola Chicago...were done by very senior-laden teams...that the Owls are bringing back like 90% of their scoring is interesting. to the first bolded part...the close-call/what-if game is a dangerous one, and logically flawed. their run is not really a comparison for what UNT could've/would've done in their place and I don't feel like we nearly twice beat a top 4 in the country team last season in our games with FAU. to the second...I'd be curious if Kai had eligibility and the whole Abou thing didn't happen if TP would've given more consideration to staying.
  14. it's ego...maybe even bordering on narcissism for some. it's why so much of the negativity post-NIT has read like lovers scorned.
  15. the dance squad could wear red and black polkadots and become the Lady Buggs
  16. we've literally had two transfers from Arizona State itself...Pac10 to Sun Belt. it happens all the time
  17. you missed the point. 99.9% of the athletes pursuing their best possible NIL deals don't have the luxury and privilege of falling back on the entire Manning empire. it's at best a nice gesture, maybe a little motivator for Arch, but it's not a a real commentary on NIL since Arch's position in life is a little different than let's say an Abou Ousmane who grew up one of 10 in a two bedroom apartment where NIL money can be life-altering for one and their family.
  18. multi-millionaire family that will never want for anything in life takes moral high ground. neat.
  19. these two sentences actually largely contradict each other. the kids getting paid are the ones who have worked hard and moved up depth charts. no one bats an eye when a third string deep snapper enters the portal. in general, I think the portal is flawed, but considering college football is now a $1B+ industry, coaches and ADs make millions to say that a watered-down college degree (in a world where a bachelors has been devalued considerably) is compensation enough for 4 years of risking health for the entertainment of others is pretty silly. it's a world that doesn't exist anymore.
  20. and in doing so said fans jeering their players are showing their "school pride"
