  1. Jossell with a real good stretch there…knocked down a three, dimed up Lorient, then went up big for a board to start a break.
  2. I’m really worried about the point guard play. Shots will drop for guys like Wright and Jossell, but Floyd looking super suss on the ball.
  3. went 7 minutes without a bucket. not fun when we're on this side of it.
  4. I hope this is just a bad half, especially for Wright and Floyd, because that was trash
  5. I'm anticipating this being a full house...their venue just holds 3800 and they drew 3000+ for their home opener...against the College Of Biblical Studies Ambassadors. y'all think we're the only program with scheduling issues?
  6. hmm...that made me wonder what a Texas college ranking would look like. kinda cool there's actually 25 schools. per KenPom's current ranking: 2. Houston 9. Texas Tech 13. Baylor 15. Texas A&M 24.Texas 61. TCU 68. North Texas 72. SMU 109. Sam Houston State 153. Texas State 171. UTA 183. SFA 197. Abilene Christian 212. Texas A&M - CC 219. UTEP 227. Rice 235. UT - Rio Grande Valley 271. UTSA 281. Texas Southern 288. Incarnate Word 289. Lamar 302. Tarelton State 346. Prairie View A&M 352. Texas A&M - Commerce 357. Houston Christian
  7. no doubt. I think we could end up with a sneaky tough non-con...though not contributing that will be this current Minnesota team as Yale is currently doing the exact same thing we did
  8. Pebble Earle?
  9. Hodge, and really McCasland before him, seem to have a lot of reluctance to playing underclassmen. the trio of Rubin, Abou and Scott all starting as sophomores is the last real example of kids getting a shot. I'd be surprised if Vice (or Cotton, or Mason) gets much run v. McNeese...they'll likely play v. TWU and get some run in that December home-stand, but unless one of them real distinguishes themselves I think the rotation is pretty well set.
  10. 5 conference games today, the most interesting being FAU having to come right back after a 2OT loss to play 3-0 Liberty. Minnesota hosts Yale, who already gave 13 ranked Purdue a hell of a game...so their board might be in full meltdown later this evening.
  11. 11/16...not a good night for the league...3 tough loses all by 3 points - UAB loses to High Point (UNT opponent on 12/6...they're now 4-0) 68-65. Butter Johnson showed up 21 off the bench...looks like he'd been struggling and responded with a reserve role...Lendeborg had 17-15, but UAB didn't have anyone else in double-figures. - FAU lost on a 3-pt buzzer beater to Charleston 119-116 in double OT. looks like not a lick of defense was played in this game...would've been fun to watch...both teams shot north of 50% from the floor and from three...FAU put six dudes in double figures lead by Louisville transfer Kaleb Green, but got done in by the leading scorer in the country Ante Brzovic who had 39 including the winner - Temple lost to Boston College 72-69. Temple were down as many as 14 in the first half, took a second half lead, but couldn't hang on. Jamal Mashburn Jr. looks to be a problem, but Temple doesn't seem to have much beyond him. - Memphis and USF won games they should have...Tulane lost to a 4-0 Furman.
  12. figure one main thread to keep track of how our opponents are faring. the AAC is off to a pretty strong start...overall record of 29-7. plus currently Oregon State, High Point and Utah State / St. Bonaventure are all 3-0 - Memphis (2-0) with two quality wins v. Mizzou and UNLV. they should be undefeated (though San Francisco isn't a gimmie) heading into a 11/25 game with UCONN. - UAB (2-1)...I thought their loss to Vermont wouldn't look too bad, but UV has two pretty ugly losses now. really intriguing game tomorrow 11/15 v. High Point - FAU (2-1) look tough...their loss was by 6 to UCF who already beat then 13th A&M. - the other undefeated teams, ECU (3-0), Temple (3-0), Tulane (3-0), Tulsa (3-0), Wichita St. (2-0) collectively really haven't played much of a schedule...best win is probably WSU over WKU...but they've made pretty light work of what's in front of them. Games of interest over the next week or so: 11/14 - Northern Iowa @ Wichita State 11/15 - UAB @ HighPoint ; Temple @ Boston College ; FAU v. Charlston and Liberty (11/16) 11/21 - Memphis @ San Francisco ; FAU v. Oklahoma State (3 day tourney...would play Miami or Drake next)
  13. they dropped 100 on a conference mate. currently 47 in KenPom. Memphis is at 37 and currently our highest rated opponent.
  14. from reading their board, another key transfer Tyler Cochran was also hurt...averaged 14.5ppg last year for a 20 win Toledo squad. you can only play who's in front of you, though ya...Newell so far just doesn't seem to do much save for be 6'9"...he's an ok shooter, an ok defender, an ok rebounder...he's starting to give Hamir Wright vibes. he's well under his Cal averages (though, those were some bad Cal teams)...hopefully he finds a bit more footing over the next few games, but currently I'm for either Massie or Lorient at the 4
  15. facts. my bad. I was just doing a quick scan down the ESPN schedule and forgot about the NIT
  16. I'll get the jump on this thread, because despite the name, I think this is a far tougher trip than Minnesota...probably our toughest non-con game.
  17. I think we're building a brand...it's kinda why I want to see more 54-51-esque games...this defense is a known commodity in basketball circles and was on full display tonight, especially in the first half. that's our identity and it seems like all the new kids have bought in to it. it's not gonna always be a pretty game on the offensive end, but if that commitment to UNT defense is there every game, we're always gonna be tough to beat
  18. ya. I might be conflating teams, but he and Deron Williams were high school teammates...there was also one other DFW kid at a Big 10 school during that early aughts era that I'm blanking on...plus Keith Langford from North Crowley at Kansas...the area was well represented
  19. I mean...it was so cool to see those unis, especially their candy-stripe warm-ups in The Pit that night. couldn't find the box score from that game, just that Bracey put up 39 of their 79 in a 79-70 loss
  20. oh duh...forgot Wisconsin and obviously Purdue. definitely not 3-0 though...still have nightmares about Bracey Wright and Indiana at the Pit
  21. - Dello is that dude. we won't win many games with him as our leading scorer, but he does EVERYTHING for this team - Lorient has more game than I assumed and I love his work ethic (eff it, I kinda loved him getting a T right after Garcia did)...I don't fully trust his decision making, but happy he was the !!! on the game...he earned it. - Massie is fearless and I love it. no, that wasn't at all an efficient game, but he clearly backs himself so much. - I'm still very keen on Wright and not at all worried about a quiet showing tonight - Floyd/Jossell just dropped a 7:2 A:T ratio. - honestly...was surprised Stone didn't touch at all in the 2nd half bc I thought he pestered the hell out of Garcia in the first. maybe it was just trusting BL more, but I thought Matt had a good game - if someone offered me 6 and 6 from Sissoko for the rest of the year, I'd snap their arm off at the offer.
  22. have we ever beaten a Big 10 team on the road?
  23. "why is Lorient on the floor for this last play?!?!?" haha I'm a dummy.
  24. Quiet night and seemingly riding the 5 that got us here plus Lorient is out there in Garcia.
