  1. A Juco QB would have to deal with the same learning curve that a freshman has to deal with. I'll lean toward a QB with Texas HS playoff experience over a JUCO from ....wherever. If we were going to go JUCO, we should have brought one in during the spring practice.
  2. Only distance-wise. With a 50 yrd line seat you STILL get to see the action from a better angle.
  3. Yeah, we can always fall back on our usual........ nothing.
  4. [i believe he was more excited in seeing the Spiders getting their behinds kicked than the many North Texas fans at that game. ←
  5. For YEARS I (as well as many other people) have complained about the lack of spirit traditions at North Texas. I even went so far as to say that there is NOT even a North Texas yell (other than the generic "Go North Texas, Go North Texas, Go! Go!) I've pointed out that even TCU has a unique yell; it's stupid (it starts with "Bim Bam Razoo"..obviously something out of the 20's) but it's THEIR stupid yell. And near as I can tell, they require all of their students to learn it. The reason I say that is because NORMLFROG once recited the whole thing to me. My exchange with 91 about the book "Down the Corridor of Years" cause me to glance through my copy of the book, and while doing so, guess what I found? I found a picture of a "spirit card" (circa 1908) that had...are you ready for this, A NORTH TEXAS YELL! So folks, here for your education AND amusement is OUR STUPID YELL! Again, circa 1908. BOOM-A-LACKA, BOOM-A-LACKA BOW-WOW-WOW CHING-A-LACKA, CHING-A-LACKA CHOW-CHOW-CHOW BOOM-A-LACKA, CHING-A-LACKA WHO ARE WE? WE ARE STUDENTS OF THE T.N.C. (Texas Normal College)
  6. Well, it's a different book. It (Down the Corridor of Years) mainly tells the story through pictures. "The Story of North Texas" is a more "scholarly" book. Although, I don't care much for how Dr. Rogers (the Story of North Texas) addressed the Hayden Fry years at North Texas. I own a copy of the original "The Story of North Texas" which was published in 1965, on the 75th anniversary of North Texas. I don't own the updated version.
  7. I have a copy of it. It's pretty good. It makes a pretty good "coffee table" book. How much is the current asking price? I can't remember what I payed for mine.
  8. There are a lot of players out there with nagging injuries (I observed Jamario on the sideline bicycle almost as much as he was out on the field last year because of his hamstring) , but we don't sound the alarm about them. The difference being that the QB position requires that a new guy get as many "reps" as possible while getting ready. Issac Thomas, Brandon Monroe, and J. Chapman to name a few have been out with nagging injuries and we haven't been sounding the "durability" alarm with them....nor have we been implying that any of them are sissy's etc.
  9. Everyone that has volunteered to help needs to arrive well before 11:30 in order to get this thing going right.
  10. All you needed to do was watch our spring scrimmage at the new Denton HS stadium to know what great sight lines are like.
  11. This one doesn't reflect the fall team. A quick example. It doesn't list Grant (#48) who plays FB, and Gary Elmore now wears #71.
  12. Just what ring are you guys talking about? Until 91 put the balfourchamps link up there, I haven't seen anything. I can see the four examples at the web-site, but I have yet to see the example that 91 was originally talking about.
  13. As I was watching Robertson carry the ball, I commented to Harry how shocked I was back in Feb. when we signed a RB who was 5'9" X 160. My comment at that time was that this guy had better be REAL FAST and REAL TOUGH. As of yesterday, he passed the REAL FAST test. We'll have to wait to the end of fall practice to see if he passes the REAL TOUGH test. So far he has.
  14. What impresses me is how accurate the article is (right down to the reference about the SMU bias). That rarely happens when any national publication writes about NT.
  15. 85 was the last year with real grass. I used to have a tape of the NT/UTA game played at Fouts in 85. BTW, this was the last college game for UTA. We were playing on grass (very brown grass by the way) and the announcers of the game mentioned that it was going to be replaced with astroturf or something like that before the next season.
  16. I certainly hope that Burress has a break-out year, but keep in mind that a true fresham (Chapman) got more playing time last year than Burress. There has to be a reason for that. And if someone knows of a reason that Burress wasn't out there more than Chapman, other than eligibility and/or injuries, then I'd like to hear it. I'll take an averaged sized and/or undersized overachiever (Chris Hurd and James Mitchell come to mind) over a big and impressive (but underachieving) "physical specimen" any time. Here's to the underdogs of the world.
  17. Boswell has had one since before my son played there. His last season was 98. It's a big barn with about 40 to 50 yrds of turf. About half of the building is a weight room. When they built it, they were a 4-A school.
  18. It's better than I thought. 2003 Rushing, 5.8 yrds per carry and Passing, 47.5% completion average 2004 Rushing, 7.2 yrds per carry, and Passing, 61.5 % completion average Not bad for a "walk-on".
  19. I believe that it's a bit of SNL humor. However, the name does sound real close to UNT's all-time great player and coach....Bill Brasher. I believe that Brasher still holds the season record (10) and career record (19) for INT's at North Texas. He was also the punter on the team for 1950 and 1951 averaging 35.5 and 37.2 yards per punt respectively. Also, Brasher was probably the best defensive coach that North Texas ever had.
  20. Hmmmmm, he seems to have made significant progress from 03 to 04. Maybe he's one of those players that's a "late bloomer". If so, good news for us.
  21. ... Former Sanger standout Chris Higgs, the younger brother of UNT safety Cliff Higgs, has joined the Mean Green as a walk-on. ← At what position?
  22. Could that be "Just Sports"? I don't find a "Sports USA" or any name like that in the store listings at GMM.
  23. "It also helps to have an efficient QB who keeps defenses honest with play action passes. A big stricke of 2 with play action passes will prevent opponents from keying on the running." Well well well. There's an interesting bit of insight. I'll settle for "efficient" in our QB position this year.
  24. I didn't know that Clay was still on the team. I wish Bishop well. I hope he goes to a 1-AA or D-II school where he can play this fall.
  25. I hear that speed kills.
