  1. .......OR HEY CRAIG! ALL WE GAVE OUR GREAT RB'S WAS A "SHIP".
  2. HEY CRAIG.....BITE ME!!
  3. In 1929 it was Decatur Baptist (a jr. college). It moved to Dallas around 1963 and became a four year school. Decatur Baptist quit playing football in the early 50's.
  4. Sigh, First of all, people who are in rehab are not quitters, they are trying to get better.....often for the benefit of their relationship....or family. Of course, I would expect that someone who is fast and loose with negative words like "quitter" to not know the difference. My mother (I never called her mommy) used to say "it takes two to tango". It could be that the program quit on this young man, as much as the other way around. We'll never know for sure. I still say "leave the door open", and quit calling names.
  5. I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. I want everyone out there who uses the word "quitter" so freely to do something for me. The next time one of your friends or co-workers or relatives ends their marriage (and ESPECIALLY if they have kids), regardless of the circumstances, I want you to call them QUITTERS. In addition, if you are aware that they don't spend as much time with their kids as they should, I want you to call them BIG TIME QUITTERS. I don't want you to use phrases like "well, they just got out of a real bad situation", or "man! that was too bad for the kids, but (insert the name of your friend here) just didn't have any choice." YOU MUST CALL THEM QUITTERS! We have an incredible number of deadbeat Dads out there, some of which are still with their families. They live in the same house, but they neglect both their spouse and their kids. Sometimes so that they can go and hang-out with 'the guys" in a sports bar and throw around judgemental words like "quitter". I find it very interesting that some men will dish out their harshest words for someone who stops playing for a SPORTS TEAM, but they won't use the same harsh words when it's a situation that really matters.
  6. He was a transfer from a school in Oklahoma. I don't remember the name, but it was a small school and they might have discontinued football.
  7. Hmmm, do you think that we could find a tortilla maker that is approved by CLC.
  8. Wait a minute! That's what I was saying at the Tulsa game......except for the Diet Coke thing. During the Tulsa game, my friend would turn to me and say "do you think they're going to fall for the quick kick again?" And just before their final screen pass (that went for a TD) he said "how many times are they going to fall for that screen pass play?".
  9. Gee, what a nice simple life you lead.
  10. You wouldn't move the sides in closer, you would lower the field, take out the track, and just continue the seating down to the new sideline. This has been discussed in the past, and it seems that due to issues with the water table, they can only dig down about 6 feet, which would not be enough. Besides, there is still some question about TXDOT taking a big chunk of the Fouts field property for their "widening 35" project.
  11. Well, from all indications this guy was a "meat eater". We need all the "meat eaters" out on the field that we can get. I don't know what went wrong on this, but I hope that the door remains open.
  12. Since we're talking about things that we're getting tired of hearing, I want to list "look how long we've been a D-1 program" as the most irritating quote that I have to listen to. We used to play in D-1! From the mid-50's until 1981! And we were beating D-1 teams when we were 1-AA! In fact, our best 1-AA coach has more D-1 OCC wins than our current coach......with 20 fewer "ships" and MUCH WORSE FACILITIES! AND MUCH WORSE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT! And NOT ONCE did this coach ever talk about "us against them" when he had every right to do so. Stop saying "we've only been D-1 since 1995"! That implies that we started our football program totally from scratch and THAT IT NEVER EXSISTED BEFORE 1995.
  13. Just before I read this, I was thinking that very thing. If nothing else, that team certainly represented a completely different mind-set on the part of the coaching staff. And just for instance. Hayden Fry was the FIRST EVER coach to arrive on the North Texas campus and tell us that we should get rid of our second class mind set, and assume the attitude that WE ARE AS GOOD AS ANYONE ELSE. He also told us that our school was just as worthy of it's alumni/student loyalty as any other school in Texas.....or the nation for that matter.
  14. Well, the great news just keeps rolling in. I certainly hope that all of our starters at LB stay healthy for the rest of the year. Did anyone see this coming?
  15. ....and could you supersize that order?
  16. And to put this into perspective, (just like Anthony Michael Hall in the movie "Sixteen Candles") that makes us "King of the Dip$hits".
  17. ...and if you don't pack up and start walking into the stadium the "tug" will run over your stuff............
  18. I totally agree with that. I also agree with a statement on another thread that the athletic dept should promote "gameday" more than the game itself.
  19. Amongst all the other dark thoughts that I had while I was driving home Saturday night, I kept thinking of that old adage about college football teams. "The biggest improvement in a college team happens between the first and second week". I hope the football gods give us a "do-over" on that one. AND, as to the statement that screen passes never work? I believe that EVERY screen pass that TULSA ran worked perfectly well. Including that WR screen that went for a touchdown. SO, can we attribute that to Tulsa having better execution on offense, or us having a dumb defense. My friend (who used to cover North Texas games during the Hayden Fry era for the Gainesville paper) turned to me and said "just how many times are they going to fall for that sucker play?".
  20. November the 5h Huh? We'll probably need portable fire pits by each of the tailgating tents.
  21. Yep, that's pretty much what I saw too. Good photo.
  22. I agree with Adler. If we are going to try another QB with a strong arm, then I like Warren better. He had a good arm and he was much more mobile than Phillips. He was mobile enough that they have tried him at safety. If they are going to keep Meager in there, then they need to give him a LOT of three-step passes to throw. Meager can easily handle the 10 to 15 yrd range. He's just not healed up enough to go down field. If they are going to try Phillips in there then they absolutely need to put the three-step passing attack in there. Meager can at least run for his life, but Phillips will take a huge pounding trying to set up for a pass in our current system. BTW John. I really enjoyed my visit with your folks, especially your fiancee.
  23. OOOOOOOOOOOH, now THAT was a good one! .........
  24. You misunderstand me. I'm saying that we need to take four steps forward (and one back) EVERY year,....not over a four year period. DD has been here 8 years. If he's going to give us any sort of signs, he would have done it long ago. I'm hoping and praying that last Saturday was not one of them! Most coaches are fully into their program after three years on the job. After that, the alumni start holding their feet to the fire. I'd just like to remind everyone that during the "Dark days" of 1-AA that everyone points to when they try to explain why we are so far behind all the other D-1 programs. We had LESS resources and LESS support from the administration, and MORE OCC wins than in the last 8 years. Come to think of it, the last time we played Tulsa was when we were a 1-AA school. We lost that day (38-20) but we had absolutely NO national rushing leaders on our team, and we had no conference championships under our belt. We did put on a show (single game records that still stand to this day) and we scared the hell out of Tulsa.
