  1. That's true. But the part of the recruitment season (mid-term JUCOs) that will give us the most immediate help is almost over. Maybe when word gets out that we have a QB with "great potential", it will encourage some "on the fence" lineman to sign-up.
  2. “I feel like I will be a good fit at North Texas at quarterback,” Wilson said. “I watched a couple of their games this year and it looked like they needed a quarterback and a leader. I think I can be that guy.” Now, that's a good start. To me, one of the most important qualities of an outstanding QB is having confidence in their ability as a leader. Having said that, I'm now ready for him to quit talking. The remainder of his "talking" should take place in the spring......with a football in his hand. “I was real impressed with the facilities at UNT and the academic program,” Carlson said. “I like the offense they run because it’s similar to the system we run here. They guys also seemed to get along really well. It seemed like a family.” So, Kilgore also runs a boring offense? I'm glad we're not the only fans that have to suffer.
  3. I was hoping to hear that we were about to sign (out of a JUCO) the second coming of Nick Zuniga or Brian Waters. I was also hoping that we were about to sign (out of JUCO) the second coming of Michael Pruitt, or Evan Cardwell, or Booger Kennedy.....or even (for those who remember) Rex Johnson. I'm happy that we have someone with "great potential", like Mr. Wilson. But unless we SERIOUSLY address our DL concerns, and to a great extent or OL concerns, Mr. Wilson had better work on lowering his 40's time from 4.6 to about 4.4 or 4.3. Otherwise he's going to get more than a collarbone injured while he's out there running for his life. In the coming months I hope to hear reports that ALL of our OL and DL have taken up residence in the weight room. If not, then I hope to hear that the coaching staff has encouraged them to leave. Unless we get some serious help in the mid-term signings, then the only way we are going to get significantly better is through more time spent in the weight room.
  4. Right now we are talking about Mr. Wilson's "potential". As I recall, Dandy Don Meredith used to say that "potential is when you ain't done it yet". Fortunately we won't have to wait long to see how Mr. Wilson performs in pads when he suits up this spring.
  5. I don't know what JQ's official 40's time is, but I certainly think he's tall enough and big enough to play in the NFL. Good God people, can you imagine how well JQ would do when he DOESN'T have to make a circus catch on 1/3 of all of his catches?
  6. You know, I was thinking the same thing.
  7. I certainly hope that the news has some "weight" to it.
  8. So getting back to the issue of "how can we reasonably comply" have the title IX people given out a working definition of what "opportunities" mean to them? I totally agree with you about women athletes and their "real world" attitudes. However, I'm interested in how the title IX people look at this situation. Just because women athletes are not as delusional as male athletes, doesn't mean that the football team at any University should suffer.
  9. He also mentioned that Brian Waters played HS football in Dallas. I believe he played his HS football at Denton.
  10. Well, to me, it doesn't matter how many women's sports you have. If you don't get calls or walk-in inquiries from women about wanting to "walk-on" the football team ends up being in the same boat. So, to me it goes back to my original statement about "how to comply". You just document that there was sufficient (and knowledgable) staff available for any interested women to talk to about walking-on. And you keep a daily phone and/or face to face contact log, on any and all calls/contacts coming in about women interested in walking on.
  11. Do you have any information about how (or if) this has effected the legendary Nebraska walk-on program?
  12. So, let me see if I understand this correctly. Even if women are NOT calling up the athletic staff and saying that they want to "walk-on" the NCAA will bring sanctions down on NT if 50 or 75 football players want to walk-on this spring and the women's programs don't have the same purportional number of walk-ons? To me, in this scenario, "opportunities for women" is merely the documentation that there was sufficient salaried (or volunteer) staff available to answer the phone and/or answer questions (face to face) for ANY woman that is interested in "walking on" at North Texas. This is friggin crazy, but it's still absolutely no excuse for the lack of a a viable or "user friendly" walk-on program at North Texas. Any program in our position needs to be "hungry enough" and "creative enough" to get "viable" and "motivated" athletes into our program. Everyone else has to deal with Title IX. To me, this is a minor annoyance, not an excuse to not have a viable "walk-on" program.
  13. In the past, they have played him in OL. They may choose to do that since it's a position that he has played in the past.
  14. At this point, I certainly hope that the coaching staff has revised their walk-on program. And by "revised" I mean making it more "approachable" and "accessable" to interested prospects. What they've had so far quite frankly.......sucks.
  15. Well, obviously the other factor to look at is the "try not to piss off your opponent and their fans" factor. I don't know what the final score would have been had everyone been in agreement on the site, but the HP football team obviously had the last word on this controversy. Having said all that, I have to say that I'm about as sympathetic to the problems of the HP fans as I am to any problems that SMU fans might have. I'm sure that all of those HP fans that didn't get to attend the game will be able to purchase a DVD of the championship game...probably in surround sound......with multiple camera angles.....and "extra features". And unlike North Texas fans, they will probably be able to purchase THEIR DVD sometime this week.
  16. Another factor to look at in this discussion is student and alumni population. What is TSU's student enrollment? What percentage of their students live on or near campus? The other factor to look at is the number of alumni that TSU has, and the % of TSU alumni within driving distance of San Marcus. Also, what is TSU's season ticket sales this last year? What really makes us look bad is the number of our alumni who live in the metroplex and the embarrassingly low number of season ticket sales. Add to this the number of students enrolled at North Texas, who live on or within a mile of the campus, that leave to go somewhere else on game day.
  17. I would never want to go back to 1-AA, but we did have a better OCC record, and we had a better promotions man in the Athletic office.
  18. I don't understand how someone might think those are mutually exclusive concepts.
  19. I sorry, but is that a requirement.
  20. By "ground zero" do you mean the "Trinity site" in New Mexico? If so, you can only go there two times a year. It's open to the public one Saturday in April, and one Saturday in October. The entrance is located out in the middle of nowhere between Socorro and Carrizozo NM.
  21. On the well traveled roads maybe. But otherwise, the remainder of the roads are very hazardous. Assuming that any other roads DO melt today, they will re-freeze (and therefore be much more dangerous) shortly after the sun goes down. Black Ice is much more dangerous than the regular stuff. Just about 100% of the the schools in the immediate DFW area are closed today.
  22. and his record is against tougher opponents.....in a much tougher conference.
  23. Drove to downtown Fort Worth and back. On my front windshield, there were some spots that would freeze faster than the defroster could melt it. It's coming down pretty steady here in Northern Ft Worth/Tarrant county. I expect to hear that the Eagle Mountain/Saginaw ISD will be ending school early today. BTW last night, Kristine Kahanek predicted that it would be this bad.
  24. I've been hearing reports of moisture falling around Meacham Airport in North Fort Worth. I live about two miles north of that and so far nothing has fallen......except the temperature. How about the rest of the metroplex? Weatherwise, tell us what you're seeing out there.
  25. In my program for the LaLa game, he's listed as wearing #83.
