  1. As I've said many times before. Texas has more than enough fans, both alumni and non-alumni. We need you......they don't.
  2. wasn't there an outstanding DT on the Gainesville team this year?
  3. Are you talking about the actual start of spring on March 21st or spring ball. Because if you're talking about spring ball, it should get started in about 6 weeks. DD always has spring ball started and wrapped up before spring break.
  4. You mean pissing and moaning isn't helping? I think that the game day atmosphere is getting better and better every year. The Greenbackers already drag a big a$$ smoker to the tailgating area and feed people for free. They (we) also bring refreshments that we give away. The Greenbackers welcome anyone who wants to join in the festivities, and never ask for any reimbursement. Short of finding people the woman/man of their dreams, I'm not sure what else we can do to make gameday more enjoyable for the casual fan.
  5. Soooooooo true, at so many levels. But at North Texas it's mostly at the administrative level.
  6. so do I
  7. We fought Arizona for Ieans? Would they consider taking him off our hands now?
  8. A$M might want to consider DD's "stealth recruitment" policy after this story. COLLEGE NOTES A&M commitment is arrested Staff and Wire Reports Trent Hines, a Midland Lee football player who has committed to play at Texas A&M next season, was arrested, along with another boy, in connection with the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl, according to a statement released by the Midland Police Department. Warrants were issued for Hines and Paul Allen Peters, both 17, on Dec. 21. Hines was arrested Dec. 21 and Peters was arrested Dec. 22, according to the statement. The incident occurred Dec. 15 and was reported to Midland police the same day by the parents of the victim. The report said the victim and suspects are known to each other. Both boys were released from the Midland County detention center after posting $25,000 bonds each, according to a report in the Midland Reporter-Telegram. Hines entered the 2005 football season as one of the state's top running backs after rushing for 1,500 yards in 2004. However, this season was filled with setbacks, including a suspension for violating team rules. He was also benched during the season and he did not play, for undisclosed reasons, in the team's final regular-season game or in their playoff game. -- Jeff Caplan By the way, there is a link to a North Texas message board on the on-line ST sports page. The link is NOT to gmg.com
  9. I noticed that this years All-American team has a center who is 6'3" X 285. I think we could get by with a 285lb center. I just hope that most of our O-lineman and all of our D-lineman spend a great amount of time in the weight room during the off season.
  10. HEAR! HEAR!
  11. ....and we had better do something to help people forget about our recent losses to FAU, and our almost loss to FIU. After the loss to FAU at home two seasons ago, I started taking cautionary glances skyward every time I stepped into Fouts.
  12. So do I. I believe that Erma Bombeck used to say that "the grass is always greener over the septic tank"......
  13. Well, we may or may not. In light of how forthcoming the athletic dept is with information, this guy might have left the program months ago.
  14. You must have a different roster than I have. I looked on three different programs from this year's season and none of those guys are on them.
  15. Who the hell are these guys? I don't find them listed on any of the game programs that I purchased this year.
  16. Screaming? Sorry, but you have no idea about what my reaction would be. This is about how one program is much more open with their fans than ours. However, I will say this. If DD had had the same season that the Tulsa coach has had, then I would assume that the players that he was going after were going to be tough, smart, and disciplined. The size issue would work itself out.
  17. Not only does Tulsa not care who knows what players they are going after, they also show which coach is responsible for bringing that player in for a visit (you have to click page 2 for that information). http://tulsa.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?school=195 It looks like about half of the players that they are going after are here in the metroplex.
  18. Yeah, we could probably beat Guacamole State But Avacado U?? I think you're being a bit optimistic on that one. We'd have to get at least 5 or 6 turnovers to beat them.........
  19. I'd like to put this post into better perspective for everyone on this board, because some of you may not know GrayEagle. In all my years of attending, watching, and talking about North Texas football I don't think that I have found one person that has more knowledge about North Texas football (both historical and technical) than GrayEagleone. In addition, I find him to be one of the most intelligent, fair minded, friendly and approachable fans I have ever come across at this institution. I say all this not because I think that GEO's ego needs to be massaged, but because everyone needs to understand how serious things have gotten. When GrayEagleone is so fed-up with a situaton that he is starting to drop hints that (metaphorically speaking) the sky is about to start falling, then everyone better start (again metaphorically speaking) worrying about large objects falling on their heads. And the people that really need to pay attention and worry about this the most, are the ones in charge of this program.... Are you listening out there guys?
  20. Last year after the NO bowl, I was discussing North Texas football with my son, who is also a North Texas graduate. Now, "Son-of-silver" hasn't been a bandwagon-type fan since he was in early High School, when his favorite team was Nebraska. Since then he's maintained an almost "professional" stance regarding College and Pro teams. By that I mean that he loves to watch a good match-up between well coached and talented teams, but he rarely takes sides. He can quote sports statistics with the best of them. I use him as my sounding board for an objective view of North Texas athletics. It's like getting the frank criticism of our opponents without the flaming. Anyway, after the NO bowl game, I mentioned that I was disappointed that we didn't recruit better in Texas. Especially when you consider we've been to four straight bowl games AND we have one of the longest conference winning streaks in College Football. "Son-of-Silver" just smiled at me and said "well Dad, how many of those bowl games did North Texas win?". He then added "and how many OCC games has North Texas won in the last five years?" That, he said, is what really gets the attention of the casual fan. Just the other day, I mentioned to him that North Texas signed four mid-term JUCO players that many people feel will give North Texas some immediate help. I told him that I thought that most of them were at least honorable-mention all-conference players. Once again "Son-of-Silver" just smiled at me and said "Dad, what North Texas needed to do was sign four mid-term JUCO ALL-AMERICANS. THEN, maybe people will notice, and THEN maybe the better HS recruits might want to give North Texas a more serious look".
  21. Like I said...."a waste of a ship".
  22. SAME TO YOU AND A HO! HO! HO!, THROWN IN.
  23. You know, having some pinstriping and/or stickers made for a NORTH TEXAS SPECIAL truck wouldn't be hard at all. But Rick, I'll tell you one good reason why there is probably never going to be any "NORTH TEXAS SPECIAL" truck packages. If a dealership wanted to produce one, then they would have to deal with the North Texas branding dept AND CLC. Nuff said.
  24. Ok, you answered the "commuter school" portion of the comment. What did you say to him/her about the "apathetic" part?
  25. Well, let's look at it this way. If DD and his staff want to maintain any sort of credibility with JUCO talent out there, then they had better give Woody every chance to succeed. Otherwise, we had better get used to our future JUCO signings to be limited to O-lineman and D-Lineman. It gets around when a coach goes back on their word. And it especially gets around with the help of recruiters from other schools. Besides, we still have Jonathan (a-waste-of-a-ship) Ieans on the team. And he's still listed as a QB (talk about a misnomer). Woody couldn't possibly be as bad as him. For that matter, Medpilot would be a much better prospect at QB than JI.
