  1. http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/high_school/13670041.htm Former Carroll aide a finalist at Haltom By ANTHONY ANDROSTAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER Former Carroll assistant coach Clayton George is among the five finalists for the Haltom head football coaching vacancy. George, who has been the coach at Dallas Hillcrest the last two seasons, was the offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Carroll and had worked with Carroll coach Todd Dodge for 10 years. He left Carroll in March 2004. Head coaches Mike Coker (Galena Park), Bob Bellard (San Angelo Central) and Buddy Griffin (Jefferson) and Marcus assistant James Randall are the other finalists. Bellard is 19-17 at San Angelo Central and has been to the playoffs in each of his three seasons. Galena Park is 16-4 in its last two seasons under Coker. Last year, Griffin guided Jefferson to the second round of the 3A playoffs, where it lost to eventual state champion Tatum. The list was pared from an initial list of 43 applicants. Athletic director Willa Gipson began interviewing finalists Wednesday. Gipson told the Star-Telegram in December that she hoped to have a candidate in place for the Jan. 26 school board meeting. The Haltom job opened when Kenny Perry left after two seasons to take the Arlington Bowie job. The Buffalos were 5-5 last season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is this the same "money-in-the-bank" receiver from North Texas (I believe he would be #14 on your program) that played with Mitch Maher in the early 90's? If so, has the University developed this potential resource to help us with recruiting? If this is the same guy, then I would think that the ex-letterman's association might want to contact him and basically say "how about keeping us apprised about any talent in your program". Does the ex-lettermen's association try and make contacts like that for the University? Because the University certainly needs all the help they can get in the area of recruitment. Anyway, if this is the same Clayton George from North Texas, then I certainly hope that he gets the Haltom job.
  2. I know who the ticket office is pulling for. The "northern" team's fans will call up and buy season tickets from us just to get the option to buy the game ticket for our game with them. That reminds me. I wonder if the Texas fans will do the same. The Texas ticket has GOT to be a VERY HOT ticket in Austin this fall. A little early warning folks. Don't wait till the last moment to renew your season tickets and your MGC membership. There will be a bunch of "other fans" who will be standing in line to get a shot at our ticket allotment.
  3. This should be good news for students.
  4. We've been recruiting "all-district" players for quite a long time. As someone commented a long time ago, we need to start bringing in more "All-Area" or "All-State" players if we want to start moving up the food chain.
  5. Didn't I read somewhere that the "North" school was paying $750,000 these days?
  6. I't isn't about your sexual orientation, it's about.......oh, never mind.
  7. ....
  8. Are there any killers on defense? Best comment/question in the whole article.
  9. You know, it isn't just ladies who start sagging in their 60's and 70's.
  10. Interesting responses. I've talked with a professional woman (not that kind of profession guys) about this survey. She has two "tats", and she finds the use of the word "disgusting" , in reference to female tattoos, both surprising and disappointing. Especially coming from a group of college educated men.
  11. ...if so, what's your assessment.
  12. The North Texas exes have one.
  13. Thanks, my other comments still apply.
  14. Some of the most superstitious people in the world are athletes/coaches/fans. They can also be the most egotistical. I would have been very happy to un-retire Ray Renfro's number if his grandson had been even remotely interested in attending NT. Of course the latest Renfro wore #20 in HS. But I bet it would have gotten his attention if the idea had even been pitched to him.
  15. Well, I have to do an addendum and take back some of what I said. I had a conversation this morning with a young man who was a walk-on OL. I asked him about Seneca Collins and he immediately became animated in his conversation about him. My source said that he worked out against Seneca and was very impressed with his athletic ability, as well as his potential as a D-Lineman. My source says that Seneca has great "hand work" and can keep the O-lineman away from him while he is using his speed to get by him. So, Seneca Collins looks like a very good prospect. And since Sky Pruitt will be letting his shoulder heal this spring, Seneca should get a lot of reps out there. Another reason that I'm looking forward to spring practice.
  16. Since Northwestern has a very good academic reputation, can I assume that this young man is NOT going to go the way of Mr. Raymond and Mr. Byerly?
  17. Well let's see. If your girlfriend/wife hadn't talked you out of it, then the only way that the general public would know about this "work of art" is if you went around indiscriminatly dropping your pants. I think the general public would not have appreciated this "work of art", but I'm sure your future cellmates would have found it cool and amusing.
  18. So we're talking about a guy that went to Tulsa to play basketball, and now we are talking about him playing DT?. When was the last time he played football? If you tell me HS, then I am not all that excited. If he hasn't played FB since HS, then he might be playing to his full potential by sometime in the 07 season.
  19. You're right, what was I thinking!!
  20. I beleive that it's pretty common knowledge that he won't be coming back.
  21. I think that Kerona Henderson is a better prospect than using a "H" back. He's a true FB size (6' 225) and he's shown flashes of being a legitimate running threat during last spring, and last fall's practice. I noticed that he got more playing time at FB as the season wore on. So, that means that he was becoming more effective at FB than James Mitchell. To me, that's pretty impressive because James Mitchell (like James Brown) is the hardest working player on the team. And a damn fine running back. Has everyone forgotten about James Mithcell's 166 yards in the mud against Arkst. at the end of 04? So that means that JaMo and James Mitchell will be #1 and #2 going into the spring. I pencil in Evan Robertson a #3. I remember when we signed Evan Robertson last spring. I thought "at 5'9" X 160lbs this guy had better be FAST and TOUGH. From what I saw in the fall practices, he seemed to be both. So, if Robertson (#22 on your program) is as good as he showed last fall, then we are in pretty good shape at RB,.....even if JaMo doesn't come through. Besides, we could always move Deavin Cox to RB. He looked pretty good at RB in the fall of 04. The key to the running game(as always) will be getting the OL back to functioning where is it accustom to functioning......only better. Just about everyone in the OL who is coming back, and/or the new guys being plugged in look pretty solid except for RT (as posted above in GK's post). Jeremy Brown got benched toward the end of the year. I hope that that situation has been corrected as he is a 300 pounder. If not, then what happed to Adam Venegas and his strong showing in the fall practices? Venegas showed up in the best shape of all the OL, and then seemed to disappear as the season wore on. What's up with that? Well need to be looking at how the other lineman have "grown" (physically and emotionally) since last fall. Drew DuBose was listed as 6' 2" X 244, Bryan Glass (who came to us with a lot of praise for his intensity and work ethic) was listed as 6' X 280, and Jack Crumes was listed as 6'4" X 270. Bryan Glass played both sides of the line while he was in HS. Considering his build, I would give him a look in the DL. The WR positions are pretty solid. Although, why is it that one of the hardest working and potentially big-play guys is not mentioned..... Zach Muzzy. He'll be coming back for his (hopefully) RS Junior season and I just have a feeling that he's going to be a difference maker this fall. I'm also curious about what the coaching staff is going to do with Brock Stickler.
  22. Has Chase Pistole disappeared from the DL rotation? I'm also curious if Issac Thomas ever got his "condition" stabalized enough to try and continue his career. How about Micah West? Is he still hanging around somewhere?
  23. I tend to agree with that, but I think that the Eagle Character of the 60's would look pretty good as well. I wish that I had a jpeg of that image.
  24. Since tattoos are so popular these days, I just thought that I would take a survey of the Mean Green nation. Many people get tattos to celebrate their affiliation with an organization (military or otherwise), group, or to declare their devotion to "another". Some get tattoos for what appears to me to be the result of a moment of boredom or drunkeness. So, how many of you out there have tattoos, and do any of you have tattoos celebrating your devotion/allegiance to North Texas. I'll start. I do not have any tattoos.
